14:00 I'll be in the air, en route to Istanbul, at this time. My next entry will be this evening hopefully, following our arrival at the team hotel... internet connection permitting! If there's a problem, I'll update through the guys back at Old Trafford on Monday morning.

13:17 Less than an hour until take-off and I can confirm the 23 players who are travelling to Turkey are as follows, in no particular order: Dimitar Berbatov, Wes Brown, Michael Carrick, Anderson, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Darron Gibson, Antonio Valencia, Ben Amos, Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Fletcher, Gary Neville, John O'Shea, Ji-sung Park, Fabio, Ben Foster, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Nemanja Vidic, Nani.

12:28 I've just checked in at Stansted airport following our journey down from Manchester. We'll soon be joined by Sir Alex, the players and the backroom staff following their overnight stay in London, ahead of our flight at 14:00. I imagine the mood on their bus was very upbeat after the team's excellent win at White Hart Lane - a result which sets us up nicely for a big week, starting with Besiktas on Tuesday night.

08:34 Sat on the coach having flashbacks to Rome - it seems such a long time ago now. Can't believe the Champions League is starting all over again; hopefully we can kick things off with a win. United legend Bryan Robson thinks the Reds will do exactly that. Just been having a chat with him on the coach and he's going for a 2-1 victory.

07:45 Just about to board the coach from Manchester. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get down to London for the Spurs game last night because of a friend's wedding, but I'm on my way now with a number of other United staff. We're heading for Stansted airport, before flying to Istanbul with the team, who stayed over in the capital, just after lunch.

Do we really need to rotate our XI so much after every game?
 
I just don't think we should go all out for this one, as I am concered about the derby. I don't see the need for Rooney to start considering he played for England and then us. I would go with a Berbatov, Owen combo. Scholes might as well play in the midfield seeing as he is suspended along with Carrick. Nani and Valencia on the wings. Back four the same, maybe rest Rio for Evans? And Fabio at right back to let O'Shea heal (no need to risk him as well since he just came back).

One of the key consideration is the crowd hostility. I think Fergie will pick a squad that can handle that. Because of that, I think Gary, Rio, Vidic & Evra will start. Park & Owen too.

Then in the dept of "freshness" I think one of Nani or Valencia + Carrick. Fletcher will probably be rested with the derby in mind.

That's pretty much the team I'd like to see. Should be strong enough to get some sort of result, whilst affording a much-needed rest for Giggsy, Fletch and Rooney.

Am I right in thinking the last time we met a Turkish side was the 6-2 thrashing of Fenerbache at Old Trafford?

To be honest, despite what people say about the intimidatory nature of playing in Istanbul, the game should be simple enough. Besiktas can't be any better than a bottom half Premier League side. I say we should leave Rooney and a few others out.

Yep. I don't think I had ever been more excited about a player in my life.



Could be wrong in it being the last time we played a Turkish side, though. In fact, we probably played them in Istanbul after that game.

I know Rooney has played a lot of games and he will start the derby ( hope no injuries are picked up) but saying so after the Besiktas and Shitty game we play Wolves in the Carling Cup and he will be rested for that. Saying that it is Europe and we can not be too sure what Fergie will do.

Both Nani and Valencia were rested on Spurs even though Nani came on for a bit. Withe the way we have been playing in Europe recently can't expect both to start.
 
I'd be tempted to give Owen a start in place of Rooney, but then I wouldn't want to ruin Rooney's recent form. He's a very streaky player so maybe playing him is the best thing to do, unsure on this one.

I'd like to see Valencia play too, he needs more games to get accustomed to the team.

I expect 2 or 3 changes, hopefully not wholesale changes though!
 
Scholes might get a game seeing as he is out of the manchesterderby but can he play two games in the week.

Well, he was sent off just before the hour mark, (remember Giggs played the full 90), so he should be able to put in another hour tomorrow, at least.

Owen won't start or play much according to Fergie because this is the start of the season.
 
Yeah I think Owen will certainly start tomorrow
