Stoke City v Manchester United
Barclays Premier League
Britannia Stadium, Stoke
Saturday, 26th September 2009, 15:00

Keep in mind that the only game we lost this season, we wore the black kit

Foster

O'Shea
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Fletcher
Anderson
Nani

Rooney
Berbatov

Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Evans, Scholes, Giggs, Park, Owen.

2-0 Berbatov, Rooney.

I'm bricking this one :nervous:

Team should be...

GK: Foster

RB: O'Shea
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Fletcher
CM: Anderson
CM: Scholes
LM: Giggs

CF: Rooney
CF: Berbatov

Subs: PIG, Neville, Evans, Carrick, Park, Nani, Owen

I'll settle for 1-0 right now. Fancy Berbatov to score

Agree with this team, maybe Giggs for Nani/Valencia.

Match facts from Yahoo Eurosport
Man Utd have won eight of the last 10 league meetings with Stoke without the Potters scoring. In the two games where Stoke scored, they won the match.

Stoke's last eight home wins have all been achieved with a clean sheet the last time they won at the Britannia Stadium when the opposition scored was in November 2008 against Arsenal.

The last time Man Utd scored in a Premier League away game and did not win was also in November 2008 against Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney has scored six goals in his last six league matches.

Rooney has scored at a rate of 87 minutes per goal this season, only Everton's Louis Saha has been more regular of players to have scored more than twice.

Ryan Giggs has created more goalscoring chances than any other Premier League player this season, 24.

The Potters have twice as many points as they did after six games last season but have scored two goals fewer.

Stoke are the only Premier League team to have drawn more than once this season.

United have scored more second half goals than any other side, 11.

80% of Stoke's goals have come in the first half this season.

Giggs has created 24 chances already this season in the Premiership:eek:.

That is fecking unreal and he is averaging roughly five created chances a game since he did not play against Wigan.

It is amazing. It's also a bit of a worry that our good start to the season has been so heavily reliant on Giggs. We really need our other, younger, creative players to step up and share the burden.

Think we could benefit from having rested our entire first team in midweek, whereas Stoke have played?

Anyway, I'm going for a very tight game, much like last year, with the same result. 1-0, Berbagoal

Incredible! Even when he s playing bad or he s out of the game, you can always rest assured that sooner or later he ll create something for others.

Giggs' only downfall is his finishing at times...

Dont know but after yesterday's game I would be tempted to give Gibson a chance vs Stoke. He s a big lad and we might find him handy against Stoke's bully boys

This and pray Nani's final balls are better. Also, I've put Giggs down on the bench though my theory is he'll start either on Saturday or Tuesday, doubt it'll be both, and I'd have him in the CL over this one.

Christ our benches are strong nowadays; if we played the above 18 then for one reason or another there'd be no van der Sar, Hargreaves, Brown, Tosic, Carrick, Welbeck, Fabio, Rafael, Obertan, Macheda and Gibson.

Foster back in, along with the back four. O'Shea has been solid, and with basically all of our fullbacks having played in the Carling Cup on Wednesday he's the obvious choice. He also adds the most height to deal with Stoke at set-pieces. I think Valencia has played his way into the team and deserves a start, his pace will trouble Stoke and we have the likes of Nani and Owen to bring on as impact players with some pace. Anderson and Fletcher in the middle for plenty of energy so we can hopefully win the ball back, and we can hope for creativity and goal scoring opportunities from Giggs, Berbatov, Valencia, and Rooney.

Scholes may come sraight back in, but I think Anderson might be good for the start of this game where Stoke may pack the midfield and having Scholes and Giggs there from the start could pile the pressure on us in the middle a bit too much. I think Scholes would be best coming on for Anderson after the hour mark if we need a bit more creativity in the middle of the park, but it depends if we really need to open them up or if we're in front comfortably. Owen can come on late if we need a goal, and Nani too. Park if we want to sure things up a bit. Carrick may also make the bench, but I'm not sure.

Not looking forward to this game to tell you the truth, Stoke are a different team at home. Any win will do, just to get this out of the way.

Tough game this.

Foster
O'Solid Rio Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Anderson Giggs
Rooney Berbatov

0-1

Start with Rooney, and Berbatov upfront, with Giggs and Fletcher in the side and we have the 3 points.

Thankyou.

Gonna be a tough scrappy affair, but I think we'll nick it 1-0.

fuller and beattie doubtful ..
kitson and tuncay ..
stoke have improved a bit and they are very good at home ...

Away games, SAF will do the trick again, same team that he fielded against Besiktas to me. Anderson-Fletcher in CM and Gigg. Lw Nani Rw Park Rooney up front alone. Strongest back four possible. Again a scrappy 1-0 with Stoke creating problems for us but will deplete their stamina and we will grab something in the end.

this has to be the dullest matchday thread ever

we play in 8 hours.. am i the only one excited :s
