Should that have perhaps have been a penalty (not the Valencia incident,a s that was a good decision by Clattenburg), as in Owen's attempt to evade the tackle, he was off-balance which caused his poor shot

I'm sure I've heard that argument before, perhaps when Gerrard got that one against Sheff Utd.

I see what you're saying but unless you are Stevie G you don't get those, especially with so much scrutiny on refs at old trafford
 
why the controversy regarding the sunderland goal ..
it has happened before hasnt it ..

some thing to do with if an outside agents influences the movement of the ball, the referee should stop play and a drop ball should take place, outsides agents being items or people that the referee has not allowed on the pitch
