Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers

Carrick doesn't deserve to come off.. for me it's our strikers and wingers who are letting us down, they're just abit off the pace and need to sharpen up a tad.

My idea is about tactics not merit. At the moment, Valencia is one who can crack a shot from outside the box. I would like him to be in the middle of this game.

Valencia doesn't seem to have the creativity to unlock a tight defence right now.

He's a fairly useful player, but first choice wingers who make the grade at Manchester United are ALWAYS 'special' players. He isn't one, yet.

Would love to see Obertan feature today.

We look good whenever Rooney gets involved. I can't for the life of me understand why he is consistently being played up front and Berba deep (well, other than pace).

He hasn't been, and when he has had it deep his passes have mostly been intercepted.

Because Berba has not and does not play up front, Berba plays the Rooney role, sitting behind a striker. At Spurs he was behind Keane. Berba fashions great in that role. Unfortunately for us, he is not that different from Rooney so they do get in each others way at times.
IMO, our attack should be Berba and Owen, or Owen and Rooney.

Agree.

Jeez you lot are hard to please, Nani has been superb, it's hard to speed up play when the final third is so congested.

Maybe.. but there'd be no defensive cover. Possibly last 10 mins if we're desperate, it's more down to strikers than the central midfield.

Because individually they are quality players. Its just the partnership itself which is an average one and takes some of the gloss off of their performances. If they actually suited playing next to each other they'd be scoring for fun.

The fact that they're both quality players is good enough for me.

Being a great partnership's a bonus, a bonus I still think is possible somewhere down the line.

And they were in such blistering form last season, weren't they? Their partnership is very poor; Rooney and Tevez was better, and that was hardly flawless.

No, it's not very poor.

If you're going to exaggerate every little point then there's not point in even bothering.

I would like to see Owen and Berbatov up front at some stage in the second half.

We need to be sharper, quicker and play with more urgency in the second half. Very little threat coming from us at Old Trafford of all places. I want to see their defence and keeper given a much tougher test.

Here we go again!!

No it means he's being chopped down everytime he's getting a run at Chimbona. Nice try though, keep it up.

 Are you implying I watch the game with the intention of critisising Nani? Feck off. I've watched it, and he's constantly made the wrong decisions in that half.

That said, he has it within himself to pull of the spectacualr and belt one in from 30 yards. Maybe he's trying too hard to be Ronaldo? Needs tp be himself and work on that end product. Just like Ronlaod had too 4 or so years back.

Well, Rooney is much better in that role than Berba so I can't see why we shouldn't give it a try. This reminds me of the whole "pushing Scholes out wide to accomodate Veron" farce.

Which is why Anelka in Jan 08 would have been a great signing. That said, let's hope Berbatov/Rooney can knock a couple in this half.

Nani hasn't been superb, lets not be silly. He's been decent, not awful as some have made out as he's ball carrying has been crucial but his end product has been worse than usual.

Let's hope he gets it together second half.

It is more like, we have recently seen a player kill teams like this. So when we are not putting our chances away, some have the right to question the end products of the guys on the field.

Valencia has been breaking down their atacking play better than anyone else and that corner was cracking.

Agree, and he gives us a better defensive cover as well. To take him off just doesn't make sense.

It's Nani's clueless decision making that is hurting us. Sure he does contribute to the build-up, but he just wastes everything in the final third with his poor decisions.

Valencia--Berba--Rooney
----------Owen--------

i know Rooney doesn't like it out left but we're not talking wing play, with Evra getting forward he can cut insode and thats where he plays his best fotball- its got to be the best way of accomodating Owen, at least worth atry (especiallly as Nani still isn't cutting it)

well...i think United have played very well considering the way rovers are sitting in front of the goal. United certainly not playing soft on the defensive end today either...nice to see for a change.

I think the idea is that either can play up and either can play back and depending on the situation and whoever has the ball or whoever is closer, they can adapt accordingly. Unfortunately sometimes they both end up thinking they're supposed to fill the same role and things get mixed up.
