The kid has great acceleration/pace, can pick a pass, has great dribbling skills and we all know he can shoot. He just looks the part and we all know that if you're good enough, you're old enough. He really should be getting 25+ games a season....

....Or am I getting carried away? Macheda still looks very raw but Welbeck may well be the reason why we won't buy a superstar striker in the near future.

A few more first team goals before we should get carried away I feel. Definately has a lot to his game though.

Been really good in the first half. Both him and Macheda really look the knees of the bees.

I hope we don't sell em.

That's not my decision to make but as SAF said, the younger players take the jobs of older ones, when they're ready. I think Welbeck is ready.

The older ones have to be ready to go too. As it stands, that's all in the balance. Berbatov and Rooney seem to be doing ok.

I like the look of him out wide and in the channels and would give him a shout against any of our wingers at the mo.

Pique has shown that given a chance and trust, you could have a player for the next decade on your hand, we lost him by not giving him more chances. I would love to see the Rooney-Welbeck partnership in action. Rooney would thrive off someone like Welbeck getting in behind defenders imo. This isn't an anti Berba post before anyone murders me.

Welbeck - Macheda patnership has looked very lively and they both linked up extremely well as expected. Welbeck looks better on the ball but i think both of them will make it, especially Beck - he looks a special talent.

I am the only one who thinks that he would be the perfect foil for Rooney? (Welbeck that is)

We lost Pique because his hometown club came knocking. Thats not going to happen with Welbeck... Because we are that club anyway.

Next season we can expect Welbeck and Macheda to be playing to the level of any striker at manchester united. This season is another one where we just need to give them experience.

I dunno what game you lot are watching, but he's been rather dissapointing for me first half. Lost the ball alot, delayed a few decisions, played a few duff crosses....Had one nice but lucky back heel...Macheda is ready certainly, he's looked sharp and direct, while Obertan has looked superb again. Those two and Gibson have been are 3 star performers. Welbeck, meh, not quite yet.....Hopefully he'll have a good 2nd half though

What a lame excuse

Oh sorry, I forgot that I managed united. I would give Welbeck more games, both up front and on the wing. We have a lot of options in both those positions but the decision to drop a player is made by SAF.

If I was pushed, I'd say give him a few more games at the expense of Owen and Nani. Maybe even Berbatov if he goes on a barrel run.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's better than the majority of his age group but I think Welbeck's development is far more advanced.

As should be expected, being 9 months older and a different type of player. Macheda looks more likely to get us a goal, due to his style of play, whereas Welbeck is more likely to float all over the place and be involved in good team passing. Both are capable though.

Ready to replace who is right. Can't see him breaking into the first team unless we have a major injury crisis, which of course isn't impossible given that we have Michael Owen.

Gibson?

You're being too critical about Beck here.

Rooney should be involved in the dropped bracket as well, as much as i love him - i always wonder why he is undroppable. If he does get dropped, only his determination will force himself back in to form. That's the way i would see with every determined player (especially Rooney).

I think you're exaggerating how ready Macheda looks and how badly Welbeck's played - I think he's done well - but I agree with the whole jist of the post.

Been more impressed by Macheda this season so far, although I think he's still the worse player.

I'm genuinely amazed every time I see Obertan play that we paid £3m for him, it's bizarre. He looks a cert to make it long-term, he makes very intelligent runs and passes for such a skillful player.

Gibson?

You're being too critical about Beck here.

He's probably just trying to counter-balance the "overexcitement because he's English" initiative.

He's been good but we need a goal. Is he going to get it? Lets see before we start saying "he's ready".

Well Anderson has decided he doesn't like keeping possession, Park's looked good but not really dangerous and Rafael is just fouling people....The defense has looked pretty ropey against a completely rubbish side.....Those 3 are the 3 who seem to be making most of our chances. Wellbecks been alright, but by no means amazing. Everything good he's done has been rather standard rather than brilliant...whereas Mach, Obertan and to a lesser extent Gibson have made things happen far more cleverly and in an un obvious way, if that makes sense...

In my opinion of course

What about that through ball Welbeck played to set Obertan free? Totall class there, not sure if he's ready but he looks readier than the rest bar possibly Macheda off the bench.

He has been lazy in this half - his work rate without the ball is not good enough. He is physically ready for the top - mentally he has a lot to learn

Macheda's done things cleverly and unobviously?

Nah, if anything that's Welbeck. He's brought players into play very subtly and intelligently a few times, Macheda's been more dangerous but he's done very little that's brilliant or subtle that I remember.

Who took that last corner for us ? Horrible.

Personally don't think he is good enough but he does need a run of games-i would loan him out.

No he was not, he was superb in the first half, faded out a little bit in the second half.

He like the rest of the team were good until they scored, he contributed nothing of note after that moment

Let's just say that he will never cut the mustard as a first team regular at Old Trafford, and neither will most of the young players that played tonight. In two years most of them will be gone.

We're in a really awkward situation of having 2 up and coming young strikers, both of whom need first team games yet also (IMO) need a experienced player alongside them.

Bit like the Evans-Pique situation.

Is it just me, or is this a really OTT thread?

Not the first.

He was good in the first half - not alone in that respect. But the important thing is, we didnt get the goal and none of our players really looked like it was just a matter of time before they got on the scoresheet. As against Boro wasnt it last season? Where Macheda and Welbeck both got a game and were bright with all their interplay and passing movement but again, didnt find the back of the net.

If they can score goals they'll make it here. But too many games where they play well but dont really look like getting us a goal and they wont.

I picked Welbeck in the motm thread, albeit behind Obertan and Brown mainly because Welbeck had a good first half and in the second, only Brown and Obertan really deserve any credit at all. The rest let the game slip and were ultimately dissappointing.
