Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Manchester United

Carrick will play for sure but I think we will play 4-4-2. It is important to have 2 strikers and attack or else Wolves will take advantage of just the one striker and push more bodies forward. Berbatov does not effectively take part in counter attacks. He starts it off around midfield and takes back, so we definitely need another striker (either Macheda or Diouf). I m hoping Nani and Obertan will start so Park and Valencia can rest for the Wednesday game.

Owen is injured and Rooney is a doubt according to Fergie, that's why i have a feeling it will be Berb up top on his own. I can't see Diouf starting.

No offense mate but I really dont see the point in starting Berba alone upfront against a bottom of the table team. We definitely need either or both Macheda and Diouf to warm up for the rest of the season - we might as well start with this game.

Macheda won't start as he's only just started training again. Diouf hasn't started a game for us yet and i don't expect him to start tomorrow either.

You, and other people, focus far too much on the formation. If we do play Berb up top on his own he will have plenty of support. He plays that role very well for Bulgaria after all.

As i say, it's not my ideal to play him up top alone. But if Rooney doesn't play as Fergie was suggesting then i don't see anyone else playing up there with him.

EDIT:
Also, don't underestimate Wolves at home. Their last 3 home Premer League games have been a draw against Liverpool, a win against Spurs and a very unlucky defeat against Chelsea. Just 2 goals conceded in those 3 games.

F*cking Capello had to play Rooney in 85 mins, but all the other star players got a earlier rest. Would serve Capello right if Rooney's not at his best in the summer..

Yeah I did not get this either. We were leading 3-1 and still Rooney was playing. Then I dont know why he is whining about Rooney not being given enough rest.

He plays Heskey - he should have atleast played Gabby Agbonhalor. Capello says Owen needs to score more goals - like Heskey scores every game.

And what a load of bollocks when he says he picks his team based on performance instead of reputation - if this is the case, then Walcott or SWP dont even deserve a place in that squad because Ashley Young and Downing have been performing better than them.

Off the thread topic but i don't get how this bit is relevant. Heskey brings something different to the team. Owen would be there only for goals whilst Heskey is there for other reasons so goals aren't really that important when it comes to Heskey.

Carlton Cole and Crouch also bring something different to the team but Heskey always starts and I dont see him making an impact on the game anyway.

You seriously don't see what Heskey brings to Engalnd when he plays?

He's played an absolutely crucial part in our qualifying campaign. It's widely recognised that he needs to score more goals but it's also widely recognised that he's done really well for England under Capello. If you can't see that then there's not much hope for you :)

Will berbatov asked to play alone upfront then I wonder?

don't be fooled by wolves lowly position, this will be a tough game, they are fighting for their lives in the premiership we have to play well to win and don't expect them to roll over for us.

I doubt any United fan think this will be easy. Just have to look back at the 2003/04 season when Wolves were so shite that year in the PL, and still won against us.

SSN going with the same line up as me

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Rafael, Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia, Nani, Scholes, Berbatov.

4-5-1 against Wolves would be an embarassment.

Starting XI: -------------- Van Der Sar -----------------------------
Neville ------- Ferdinand ----------------- Vidic ------- Fabio/De Laet
Valencia ------ Carrick ------------------ Fletcher -------- Nani -----
---------------- Diouf ------------------ Berbatov ------------------

Bench: Foster, Brown, Evra, Scholes, Park, Obertan, Rooney

Is that 4-3-3 or 4-5-1?

I wouldn't want to see Berba start up front alone in a 4-5-1 system TBH. He isn't like Rooney who'll run the whole defence ragged on his own. I think Diouf should be started up front as well for this one. He's fast and he'll get up in the air and get his head into things.

It would be both i presume. 4-5-1 when we haven't got the ball and 4-3-3 when attacking. Fergie would make sure both widemen and at least 1 of the central midfielders are really pushing to support Berbatov.

Berbatov upfront on his own would be a very bad choice. Either he plays with The One or Rooney.

If Arsenal can get away with playing fecking Nicholas Bendtner as a lone striker then we sure as hell can with Berbatov! hes played that role for Bulgaria for over 5 years now and has broken every scoring record in the book for them in doing so, with one of the best international strike rates in the modern game to boot, hes more than capable of playing it for a one off game against wolves, thats if Rooney dosnt play which i think he will anyway.

Great to hear Rios back alongside Vidic, and im assuming Rafael is fine? heard he went for a scan the other day but nothing was said about him today?

And i really wish certain people on here wouldnt underestimate Wolves, their in a dogfight for survival, theyve just recently won at spurs and played Chelsea off their home patch for large spells only 2 weeks ago, a strong chelsea side at that, this is no time to start throwing in Gibsons and Obertans and Dioufs and taking it for granted otherwise we'll get beat, wolves should have beaten Chelsea 2 weeks ago, that game alone shows this will be a tough game.

I am not underestimating Wolves but, if we can't go one game without Rooney against a towards the bottom side, we've got more issues than most care to admit.

All those one man team articles would be true then.

Berbatov is a top player and surrounded by players like Valencia, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, and whoever else, he will be just fine, if he is played on his own.

My concern would be if we play Scholes tomorrow than anything else. Will he be ready for Wednesday.

If Rooney doesn't play we have options other than Diouf

You can play Park as the support player to Berbatov with Carrick and Fletcher behind and Valencia/Nani on the wings.

Park has shown great ability playing in the middle and supporting Rooney and would also be able to help close down and maintain possession in midfield. Valencia/Nani on the wings, should mean ample supply.

I won't be worried if Rooney doesn't start and Berbatov is the only recognized striker on the starting XI.

Yup I agree with all of that and i personally would prefer to see a 4-3-3 with Berbatov up front if Rooney is left out, as i said i still believe Rooney will start tomorrow but if he dosnt then a midfield 3 of Scholes/Fletcher/Carrick wingers of Valencia/Nani and Berbatov up top would be the team id like to see and a team that should win the game...its when you start leaving everyone out making wholesale changes and playing the obertans/Gibsons/Dioufs etc that im not in favour of, this is a must win game against a side whove shown their more than competent especially at home....win the game get the job done and then worry about Milan, i mean simply speaking the reality is all we have to do is avoid losing by 2 clear goals at home next week, me personally i dont see the advantage of resting half the team in preperation for that in favour of a must win league game.

League is always the priority in my view, this year as much as ever for obvious reasons.

Wouldn't play all 3 of Diouf/Gibbo/Obertan in the starting line up for this but, I can see either Gibson getting the nod if we play 3 in the middle so that Scholes is fresh for Wed or if we decide 4-4-2 then Diouf playing.

Obertan - sorry but, there is no need, not when we've got two form wingers in Park/Valencia and Nani also was in good form except for one so-so game against Milan.

according to ManUnitedYouth on Twitter, Rooney did not travel with the squad today, so wouldn't be in contention for the game tomorrow.

WEll that is a kick in the cnut, what a bunch of feck feck. Capello is a real fecking twat didnt Rooney play 90 minutes the other day in that friendly. I mean give me a fecking break, it's ridiculous, why in feck did Rooney need to play, he was always going to be the first name on the team sheet in SA, play the feckers who you are caught up in two minds about you stupid Italiano

Ok but does it say who actually was in the squad that travelled.

I happened to watch Berbatov play 45 min vs Poland on the weekend, as a lone striker. He played at the very top and looked full of pace and quite dangerous. He even out jumped PIG for one of those balls. It was strange to see him look like a completely different player, yet the clever passing was there

Anyway, what formation do Wolves play at home? 4-5-1? I think it is something like a 4-1-4-1...whatever you call this. Than a 4-5-1 looks like the logical choice for us

Indeed.

...................Van Der Sar

Rafael....Ferdinand.......Vidic.......Evra

.......................Carrick
...........Fletcher............Scholes

Valencia...........Berbatov............Nani

Bench: Rooney/Park/Gibson/Diouf/Brown/Neville/Pig

Im sure at the very least Rooney will be on the bench, dont believe for a moment he hasnt travelled, listeing to Sir Alex in his press conferance today there was no mention of any injruy it was purely based on his workload over the past week on a difficult wembley pitch, i.e fatigue is clearly the issue, if so then having him on the bench makes sense if thats the case.

Right. I never believe anything SAF says.

Now, the system looks simple. SAF either plays 2 uptop, or replaces one of the forwards with Scholes. Carrick-Fletcher are sort of a given. I expect that to be the case on Sat. Whether Berba or Rooney, two fast paced wingers will be the key.

I like seeing Nani on the right. Nani is very direct and better in a 4-5-1 formations. Him playing, gives the lone forward a sort of a partner in attack
Valencia is rather a traditional winger, who crosses better and plays wide, a meter from the line. Good if there are two forwards in the box
Park enjoys a rather free role lately, but provides a good cover when we play 4-4-2. He combines with the two forwards very well, instead of wasting chances attacking himself

It's been some time since we saw Valencia-Nani play and it wasn't the best. I am tempted to give them a chance again though. But who knows SAF...

Code:
                VDS
Raf Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Fletcher Nani
                     Park
                  Berbs

If Owen is out for the season and Rooney is not exactly 100% for tomorrow, does anyone reckon Diouf will start tomorrow?

I've got a bad feeling about this for some reason. We really should give them a good going over, but...
