How kind of Capello to banjax our best player in a nothing match. What a gent, we'll have to show our appreciation somewhere down the line. This type of kindness is rare in modern society and must be rewarded.

Well done Fabio, pure genius

Lets hope this game is not the banana skin, especially with us dropping to 3rd today.

It had better be good. I just forked out a tenner to ESPN.

Let's hope we win the league ASAP, and we give Rooney a rest altogether, and then when Capello comes begging for Rooney to play so he doesn't lose his match sharpness, Fergie slams the door shut on him

Roo silly boy! Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson furious at star striker Wayne

Sir Alex Ferguson tore a strip off Wayne Rooney yesterday for playing for England against his manager's wishes.

The Manchester United boss insists Rooney should not have risked his sore knee in Wednesday night's friendly against Egypt and is furious that Rooney aggravated the injury by turning out for 86 minutes on Wembley's notoriously heavy surface just three days after playing there in the Carling Cup final victory over Aston Villa.

Ferguson cleared Fabio Capello of any blame. Instead, contrary to his normal policy of keeping criticism of players in-house, he chose to rap Rooney publically for letting his enthusiasm get the better of him.
Wayne Rooney

Rooney has received a ticking-off from United manager Ferguson for not being sensible in managing his knee injury
Sir Alex Ferguson

He said: 'I was disappointed more with Wayne. He didn't come off. I couldn't believe it, and now he's a doubt for the Wolves game this weekend.

'I don't blame Fabio at all. He has to pick his best team because a win was important and I think England played the best I have seen them play for years.

'But don't forget Wayne was not supposed to be playing at all. That's what he told us on Sunday because he was feeling his knee.

'Then all of a sudden people put an arm round his shoulder with England and he wants to play. I don't think he should have played. His own enthusiasm has caused it. He can't say "No," that's his problem.'

When asked if Rooney should have signalled to the England bench to come off, Ferguson replied: 'Of course. There were some changes made during the game and I thought Rooney would be one of them.

'Playing at Wembley, on that kind of pitch for almost an hour on Sunday and then almost the full 90 minutes on the Wednesday, it's far too much.

'But it's hard to quell people with that kind of enthusiasm because it's a restless energy which you don't want to take away from him.

'He can't sit down, he can't sit still, he's always on the move. Even in hotels I watch him and he's moving from one table to another. When we're away in Europe, he's walking about, he's always on the go all the time.'

feck you Capello.

If we drop points here I hope England go out in the group stage.

Amazes me how some are still blaming Capello despite SAF coming out and saying it was Rooney himself

Of course, but is it in his interests to flog his best player to death ahead of a WC? I think not.

Capello has a lot to answer for. Can't wait till he and his tough arse regime head out of town

I see your point, but it was the first England game for a few months and last one for a few months, so he's going to pick his strongest team. No surprise that he left him on as England were losing until very late on. I agree with Fergie in that Rooney himself should have sorted it by saying he couldn't play it all or something.

Oh and I see the best defensive unit in the world is back together again

About bloody time!

I've never heard of a player asking to come off if he can continue. It's up to the manager to protect his players and make the necessary changes. Capello failed in his duty to Rooney, England, and Fergie.

I think Rooney would play today if it was a CL final or something but Capello's selfishness has forced Fergie to wrap the lad in cotton wool.

I swear to God, if anyone PMs me a stream in a guaranteed attempt to gain my respect I'm going to report them to an admin and the police.

He was going to get rested already!

Christ, it's almost as if people feel insulted by Capello's actions the way some people are complaining about it.

Big bunch of women.

Capello could have brought him off after 45 mins or an hour. Ultimately its the managers decision of who plays not the player's. Also isn't it in the best interest of England that Rooney gets as much rest as he can.

Interesting team today. Hope to see Diouf and Obertan getting some action in the 2nd half.

SAF on ESPN saying you have to expect Wolves to fight and he'd get them doing the same if he was their manager, you have to live with it and play your own game. A sly dig at Wengers histrionics?

I'm hoping Gibson plays ahead of Carrick and Scholes in our 4231 formation, rather than sitting a bit deeper in the 433 we normally play these days. Him pushing through the middle will cause the defence trouble with his shooting, hopefully creating more space for Valencia, Nani and Berbatov to do their thing.

So we are wrong to be upset that Capello took the piss by playing an injured player in a pointless friendly? Jeez, we should be ashamed of ourselves

Oh yeah, how'd you know he'd have been rested. Are you Fergie's confidant or what?
