IIRC he made some step overs before crossing too.Now that was impressive
You're stretching now lads. He had a very good game and made a great cross for Berbatov's goal. No need to scrape the barrel by praising him for pulling off a very simple skill like crossing with the outside of his foot.![]()
He's scored just 2 goals this season - against Arsenal and Milan!
Such a big game player, especially when you consider of his 14 goals for us, 3 have come against Arsenal, 1 Chelsea and 1 Milan. He's such a vital player for us in the big games, but him scoring against these big teams suggest he's capable of upping his game against the lesser ones.
If he does that he wouldn't just be first choice for the big games but overall first choice.
Again, this won't happen until FA refs perform what amounts to a collective backpedal and admit they've been letting opposition players get away with too much when dealing with Park.
Then again, it might happen. Who knows.
I also think we need to thank Ronaldo, whose departure quite possibly removed elements of unspoken conflict between Park and Nani, who were competing for the role of Ronaldo back-up. Now that he's gone, those two can freely express themselves without having to worry about upstaging the other whilst simultaneously worrying about one's own place in the team.
Really? Did it not strike you yesterday that Nani was Valencia's understudy? It certainly seemed that way to me with Nani playing better when out on the right. We've got another Giggs/Sharpe situation on our hands methinks, although neither as as good as Giggs obviously.
What about the Joe Cole rumour?
We'll then have Obertan, Tosic, Giggs, Cole, Park, Nani and Valencia as wingers.
Time to cash in for the Glazers again, with Nani no doubt favourite.
Very odd timing to make such a comment.
Nani played very well on the left-wing yesterday but was actually less effective when he switched to the right.
Park has previously shown he can play left, right or through the middle.
Valencia is the only winger who has yet to prove he can play on both wings but he's been so good on the right this has not yet been an issue. He's also never been injured, which is something we shouldn't rely on every season.
Plenty of room in our squad for Park, Nani and Valencia. At the moment Giggs is our fourth winger, in the longer term that slot will be up for grabs between Obertan and Tosic.
If we sign Joe Cole (which is a very big if) then Obertan/Tosic will need to wait a few more years to establish themselves. No big deal. No need to sell off one of our first-choice wingers to accomodate them.
Really? His corners were a joke and he was too greedy when cutting in.
There were several occasions when he cut in and instead of passing looked for glory and f*cked it up.
Corners weren't great but he played well.

eh? Did we all watch the same match ?
Semantics.
We did but, some people's biases will lead to every shot taken by a player they don't rate as selfish, bad decision and so forth.
To some Nani (replace with Park, Berbatov, Gibson etc) needs to play an absolutely flawless game to have done okay. Anything other than that and any bad parts will be nitpicked at to try and detract from what most see as a very good performance.

Obviously you were too busy posting.
Seriously, there were quite a few times where he had Evra on the overlap or Rooney/Berba inside and tried to shoot through a player or beat two or three of them. Yeah, his work rate was decent and he got back well but he still needs to mature with his decision-making.

I really don't understand why people use the word semantics when they want to express something which "doesn't matter" or "irrelevant".
Glad to hear the latest Park chant going briefly yesterday. Think it's got a top rhythm to it and if I'm being honest, getting a tad bored with Park Park wherever you may be.
For sure but he put in a bunch of decent crosses (including a quality assist to Rooney and a golden opportunity for Berbatov) and generally passed the ball well. Add this to his work-rate and tracking back and you've got a very good performance, all things considered.
Don't sell my Park
My Ji Sung Park
I just don't think you understand
And if you sell my Park
My Ji Sung Park
Your gonna have a riot on your hands

Funny thing is after playing so well for the last month, he'll have one bad game and the muppets will be out in force.
Quality player.
I'm certainly not one of those people. There have been quite a few times where I've been one of the only people on here who did rate a Nani performance. I've also never had a problem with him shooting when he gets in that position near the box coming in off the left wing. But I don't think he was anywhere near as good against Fulham as most on here are saying (or against Milan for that matter either). We did but, some people's biases will lead to every shot taken by a player they don't rate as selfish, bad decision and so forth.

Against Fulham Nani did extremely well at constantly getting into huge amounts of space on the left wing and always being available for the pass. Perhaps the best I've ever seen him at his positioning and getting involved (although how much of that was due to the Fulham rightback playing very central is hard to tell). Because of that amount of space, Nani played an extremely important role in pushing Fulham back and putting us on the front foot. He was also doing well defensively, as he almost always does.
However, his actual passing and delivery were no better than usual. There were numerous times he should've swung the ball in quickly, but instead he did his usual trick of trying to beat his man three times to get into open space, but failing to do that and ruining the chance. Add to that passing into the wrong channels or hitting an opposition player (the Guardian chalkboard reckons he had 24 successful and 21 unsuccessful passes - quite a lot of those were crosses which are fine, but quite a lot were also simple 5-10m balls that just go wrong) and I don't get why he's being rated so highly.
Ok this has been bugging me for a while.
I really don't understand why people use the word semantics when they want to express something which "doesn't matter" or "irrelevant".
Semantics is related to meaning, like an underlying concept. When people argue like this:
A: "Some statement."
B: "No, that's not true, because statement2 is true and contradicts statement1."
A: "Semantics"
It makes no sense. If you want to express the idea that something is not the big picture, eventually irrelevant, then, if anything, the more correct word to use would be "syntactics".
If anyone understands why this word is used, let me know.
Because they were two completely different things. His movement and ability to find space without the ball was top class (and that's something that I've always said he needs to improve), but his actual passing and decision making once with the ball was nowhere near the same level. He's being rated highly because he had a good game....quite simple. And actually his delivery from the left was better than usual. I don't get why you praise his pefromance in the first part of your post then proceed to dismantle it in the second.

I'd probably give him a 6.5 - 7 rating. Not poor, but hardly great either.
I'd give him something similar. Maybe a half point higher.
The reason he's getting praise IMO is that the performance was acceptable. We should expect more from him (and he's clearly got the talent to deliver more) but if he can consistently perform like he did against Fulham (with a few Arsenal performances every now and then) he'll be playing well enough to ensure he has a long-term future at the club.
Which is reason enough to be positive, at the end of the day.
