Kansas City Wizards v Manchester United- Pre-Season Tour

Is Cleverley a bit overlooked on this forum?

I hear plenty of talk about Welbeck, Macheda and Diouf but little about this guy. He had a cracking season on loan last year and won Watfords player of the year.

Could he have a season like Gibson did last year and breakthrough with a few appearances? I watched a few games of his last season and he was brilliant at Championship level..the standout player on the field at one game I watched him live.

Looking for positives .... So that means Berbatov has scored in consecutive games and is our leading scorer of the tour so far?

If by consecutive games you mean every other game, sure. A lot of the passing was just lazy, from everyone. Welbeck, Cleverley, and Obertan tried. They really did, but nothing came of it.

fair enough, but its still not a big deal.

I dont think Rafael is ready to be our first choice at at all. Brown/JOS any day please. Rafael will get 30 or so games this year and will only play when in form. It will be another transition/bedding in season for him.

Rafael wasn't great but he was probably United's best defender.

Scholes and Giggs dependency is beginning to hurt this side, might have to play the Darron/Darren combination against the MLS Allstars.

Watched last 30 minutes we looked very pedestrian and it felt that we were just going through the motions?

Motions you say..

He'll be a better player than Gibson me thinks..

Can't agree with that. The number of times he was skinned in the first half was shocking. I thought Evans was half-decent and easily the best defender, but he was by no means good.

That was embarassing. Losing to 10 men pre-season or not, hurts our pride. Sure they had superior fitness but we can't be excused for failing to do some of the basics. The defending in particular was abysmal and our young defenders had better learn from this.

I expect a response in the next game because Fergie did not look happy with that display.

Yeah I said that last year as the main reason why I didn't think Gibson would make it. Did more in ten minutes than Gibbo did in the first 70. Having said that Gibson had to play in a rigid central midfield which he isn't suited to and Cleverley played a more of a freer role when he came on.

No-one else enjoy the game then?

I thought it was great fun!

I felt sorry for Diouf mostly, he is better than that, he really is but he has pace and he is best when there's space at the back. As soon as Kansas started defending with nine men, his main qualities were useless.

I wouldn't get too carried away by any of this. Half of our best players aren't even here.

I certainly wouldn't start writing anyone off based on this performance because if we did, we'd have to sack the lot of them!

I don't give a shit about pre-season as much as the next bloke as we allknowitmeans shit-all. But Rafael can be an absolute liability at times. He's not going to be our nailed on right back this year...
I agree,But we don't have a nailed on right back as it stands.Neville Is too past it for a long run,Brown injured alot and O'shea allthough consistant offers not that much going forward.Rafeal is still young and learning of course and will make mistakes but at times is a fantastic little player, one I feel will be up there as best right back in the world one day. Will mostly be a juggle around of all four tbh but of all of them I'd hope rafeal get's most games and improves His game to something more consistant with the skill We know He posesses.

Lucky was have Vidic, Rio, Brown and Evra all to come back then!

To be fair to the kids, none of them played as badly as Brown did against Celtic. Which is why that Commadus bloke is right, shouldn't read a great deal into pre-season friendlies.

SAF stated pre tour that getting fit, training and match time was his first priority and that he's not that bothered by results or performances. Its a pre season game FFS!

Why do you fell sorry for him? like the rest he was poor and I have big doubts about him and several others in that team

I don't think he is, he usually finishes in everyone's top 3 as the most promising player at the club.

I've never ever read anything into pre match friendlies my entire life! Pretty much same applies to even league games until about October.

The league for SAF really starts at the beginning of December. As long as your 3 or 4 points from the top, you're in contention.

And our form always comes in the new year. A long long long way to go.

Watch the knee-jerk reactions...

There are positives to be taken. I know these are pre season games but these players need to be using this chance to show that they deserve a chance. As it stands it won't be a moment to soon we get our full first team back. It's always good to win.

Fergie didn't look happy in the last game and can't have been pleased with this. A positive for me is that because of the world cup obviously transfer dealings have been pushed back for every club and it has gave Fergie a chance if he never already knew to give these lads a chance and decide whether we need to bring anyone in. Even though these are the youngsters and it is pre season some of these players are going to be counted on next season for a contribution and while we are all hoping they step up I can't help but feel a bit like it just doesn't seem to be any closer for some of them.

If Fergie was considering bringing in some more experience this will help his decision. Personally without being knee kerk we do have some promising talents but do seem to be lacking a bit of depth in some areas.

Holy crap balls what's happening? I couldn't watch the game but it seems we played shit and we will therefore play championship football next season.

Hopefully we don't show that vs chivas cause I'm gonna be there. Calm down, people.

not too hard really. .

aye but ever so slightly worrying seeing as the other one is ahead of the pecking order and the other is potentially not going to be available to us over the season.

Positives:
1) Nani's determination despite being kicked about
2) Berbatov can score lazy penalties.
