MLS All-Stars v Manchester United - Pre-Season Tour

I think you're all over-rating the All-Star team. All-Star teams tend to be a bit crap because they're thrown together over a very short period of time and don't get any chance to work out each other's games. Plus they're American and we all know Americans aren't good at football.

Nine times out of ten I'd back the club side over the all-star side. The only thing stopping me from predicting a comfortable United victory is the fact that our back four also looked as though they'd never played a game together in the last tour game (probably because they hadn't!)

Might be a bit different if this team has loads of "team USA" internationals in it, just back from the world cup? If so, they'll be a tougher nut to crack but I'd still fancy a United to hump the American international team more often than not.

 that's way too blatant to be a proper windup.

my prediction: MLS All Stars to win by at least 2.

They have a good record against British teams though:

2005 MLS All Stars 4–1 Fulham
2006 MLS All Stars 1–0 Chelsea
2007 MLS All Stars 2–0 Celtic
2008 MLS All Stars 3–2 West Ham United
2009 MLS All Stars 1–1* Everton

If it was a serious game, and we had all our players, then I've no doubt we would beat any US team nine times out of 10. But we're not taking it as seriously as these guys are. They're all playing to stick one up the "Eurosnobs" and maybe impress a few scouts from Europe as well.

Crikey. That is a good record.

Bound to be heavily influenced by the games taking place in the middle of their season, while the English teams are just off the beach, mind you.

I still think we'll win.

If we don't, it's your fault.

Donovan and Buddle played 90 minutes last night losing 4-1 to the USL side Puerto Rico Islanders at home. They are supposed to start tonight.

WTF?

The Galaxy are the top MLS club in the standings and they lose to a second rate USL side. Comical.

And wtf is CONCACAF scheduling CL matches right before the MLS All-Star game?

This whole region is ridiculous.

That said, the All-Star game will see all players selected play at some point. If those two, plus Omar Gonzalez, played a full match last night, they should be sluggish tonight. There's also the potential for injury with two games in the span of 24 hours.

Addendum #1: Galaxy doesn't show much interest - Los Angeles Times

I kept forgetting that there was a 3rd person who played last night, too early in the morning I guess. They'll be slow tonight, but by god they were slow last night as well. Just totally off the pace.

Get up at 7 30 am to shower, watch this at 8 and then bail to uni before the second half

or

Get up at 6 30, shower have breakfast and drive 45 minutes to uni, to watch the entire match from 8am and finish just before class?

Choices.

B. Easily.

Same way Real can get punished by a division 2 team... It comes down to being naive... Funny that MLS has such a tough time in their Champions League although they're meant to be the second biggest country in that region and one of the countries with a proper league.

outside of the fancy new stadiums the USL teams are probably on par with most of the MLS teams. We have a lot of mediocre players in this region of the world:lol:

My friend who is a manager where the MLS team is staying (she is the one who gave me the pass to the MLS Pre-party thing last night) saying there is a rumour that Rooney may be in town.

Not sure why I am posting it except maybe if anyone going to the game - can keep a look out for the thug :p

Just came across this, it was the first result on Google News:

HOUSTON - The MLS All-Star game has not been kind to teams from the United Kingdom.

UK teams had lost four consecutive games to Major League Soccer's All-Stars before Everton's win in 2009. But Everton's win came only after the club won in a shootout after the score was 1-1 after regulation time ended.

So, from a technical perspective, English teams have yet to win a game in regulation. Manchester City wants to be the first English team to win in regulation time when the team faces the all-stars tonight at Reliant Stadium.

I bet he can't wait to start training again. Hell, it was a short Worlds for England.
p.s. and for the rest of United players there

Not sure if I can watch this, bleeding hell 1.30am on a work night

If it was a real competitive match then can see staying up - I remember waking up at like 3:30 to watch the final in Japan but, why not just dvr/record it unless only way you are getting it is through a stream you can't record.

If it was a competitive fixtures then no complains and I would be watching full stop. But as a friendly, there is some debate as I don't always give my full concentration to friendlies as they have tendency to drop off in tempo. Don't have MUTV either so would have to watch it via a stream.

Pics of Hernandez at training and that.

*excite*

and bollocks! The game is at 12:30 in the arvo here. I've got my graduation at 2:00.. Have to drive about 35 minutes to get there. another 15 to find parking. Dammit >_<"

But it's the MLS so ESPN should probably have some sort of replay later on in the day..

Yep they do. But it's at 10.. But I have a mate's bday at 10. Oh lovely..

EDIT: There's one at 6:30 so that is just about perfect!

Not that anyone cares. Just thinking out loud...

It's on ESPN in the UK, from 1:30

They're playing at Reliant? Crap I wish I still lived on Almeda, just a five minute drive from Reliant!

When does the game start? I'm seeing 1:30, that's UK time which means it starts 2:30 CET? Is that when the game starts, or just the "coverage" (do they even have any of that before the training matches?)
