Manchester United vs. Newcastle United

Rooney - Berbatov
Nani - Fletcher - Scholes - Valencia
Evra - Evans - Vidic - O'Shea
Van der Sar

Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Fabio, Smalling, Carrick, Giggs, Owen, Hernandez

------------------VDS------------------
Rafael-------Vidic-----Evans------O'Shea
Valencia---Fletcher----Scholes-------Nani
----------Hernandez---Berbatov----------

Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Fabio, Carrick, Giggs, Owen, Rooney

5-0
Hernandez (2), Berbatov (1), O'Shea (1), Rooney (1)

This looks like the right team to me, unless Evra can make a come-back.

I really think we will give them a good old cock up the bum.

Nothing will give them a welcome back to the top flight than a nice thrashing.

Rooney will obviously start.

So will van der Sar, Vidic, Evans, Fletcher and Valencia.

If you must know...i also started the matchday thread for the game you've posted in that youtube vid

Hope you did better job than with this one...:p

Anyone else in the States see the game listed on TV anywhere? I have Directv but cannot find if they are showing it.

I've looked as well, and while later matches have been determined this one still isn't listed.

I think the unusual start time means that ESPN and FSC have to figure out who wants to do it.

I am worried about a draw tbh :(

Newcastle never worries me.

Stoke City, Bolton etc. have worried me in the past, but Newcastle have never been able to battle for a result. They have too much of the old Keegan attacking mentality in them, and therefore they leave themselves exposed.

Of course that's just history, and perhaps they've learned from their mistakes.

Last year I am trying to remember Scholes comments on how SAF wanted to use him but, I thought it was more for the away games more and if he isn't playing every week then maybe Scholes to start against Fulham and Carrick at home (or vice versa).

can't remember when we ever started a season on a Monday.

btw anyone in the US know what channel this will be on?

Nope - can't find a listing for it yet but, if anyone does find it- post it in bold so I don't miss it.

Fox Soccer Channel's listing for 12/16 at 3pm ET (which is when the game will be on) currently says "English Premier League Soccer". It doesn't mention teams, but there isn't any other game on Monday. I'm pretty certain this'll be it.

Only omitted Rooney as not sure how fit he really is. Still looked sluggish on Sunday even with the genius cross for Valencia's goal.

Seeing as the club couldn't beat Kansas City but dismantled the MLS All-Stars and looked very good against Chelsea, and Newcastle falling somwhere in between, my Essien brand calculator factors in a quotient of a .576% win.

United 3, Newcastle 0

For USA Reds:
I checked the ESPN schedule and during our the matchtime on Monday afternoon, The Barclays Premier League is listed to be showing.

Now I'm not sure if its going to be the United match live, or if its going to be a replay of one of the weekends games, it didn't say.

It won't be 4 or 5-0 on the opening day. I'd expect 2-1 or 2-0

It wouldn't be walk-over but we will win 2-0.

This season I'm expecting a blowout for the first game.* Two seasons ago on opening day the team just looked complacent after Moscow. Last season on opening day the team looked like it didn't know exactly what to do post-Ronaldo.

*Although yesterday I did predict that a spot of rain in the afternoon would only last half an hour only to see it turn into a torrential downpour that lasted until the following morning.
