September 11th? I hate the international break. :(

I think we may well play our first 4-3-3 of the season against Everton with Carrick coming in for one of the strikers, the question is which?

On form Berbatov should start ahead of Rooney but we don't really have anyone who will run in beyond him from midfield so I think Rooney has to play.

VDS

O'Shea
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Scholes
Fletcher
Carrick

Nani
Rooney
Giggs

Stupid to write a line up prediction/wish now with two international games for our players coming up..

Always tough at Goodison.

Bit of a tough game that we need to win being 1st up for the weekend. Chelsea are away at West Ham and will probably win so we need to keep the pressure on.

It's incredibly unfair on Berbatov, but after losing at Everton last season, and seeing 442 not get the job done at Craven Cottage (where we also lost last season) I reckon Fergie will opt for the three central midfield players. This undoubtedly means that Berbatov will have to sit on the bench at first. If Fergie does decide to go with Berbatov, it'll be because he won't have played an international and Rooney will have (that's if he feels that Everton's start to the Premier League warrants enough respect for 451). Owen may make the bench (he surely will if we start 442) because he won't play an international. I can see Ferdinand making the bench but I'm really unsure whether coming straight back in against a tough Everton side would be the right move. His pace may be needed for the week after against Torres, though. I'm expecting it to be a tough, tight game.

Everton 0-1 Man Utd

Ah feck. I'd forgotten about the international break. Haven't we had enough international football recently.

Berbatov has to start, for me. No point dropping him when he is in one of his best runs of form for us. We declined to strengthen any areas for a 451 in the summer so should still with the 442 with Berbatov and Rooney up front together. Nani did enough to keep his place on the right with either Giggs or Park on the left.

I might have the chance to sit in the Gwladys Street stand with my Evertonian in-laws for this one, but I'm not sure I can keep calm and inconspicuous... What to do..?

Everton aren't in good form at the moment - it's usually best to face them early in the season as they are slow starters. We'll have to play a lot better than we did today though.

Sigh an early saturday lunchtime kick off less than 3 days after internationals....perfect.......awful time to be going to one of the hardest away games in our calender really, depending on injuries/tiredness from internationals i think we'll struggle to win here which is really annoying seeing as Chelsea will continue to win their gift of an early season fixture list, granted its very early days but even so you dont want to find yourselves 4-5 points off the pace before the seasons even really started which we quite conceivably could after this.

Be happy with a draw, just glad we're getting some hard fixtures out of the way soon.

Who of today's starters are we going to lose to Internationals?:

VDS: no

Everyone else uninvolved.

Yakubu: See Yobo

Watch out for: Magaye Gueye - could play a part for Everton. Not seen a great deal of him but was impressed by him in preseason and against Huddersfield last week.

I've sat in there a good few times before, but not for any United matches.

I am sure you have, but wouldn't suggest sitting there during a United game.

I went to Goodison and sat with the home fans when United came to town and just couldn't help myself getting involved in the game. Luckily I wasn't in the Gwladys.

Yeah, I'm not sure I can keep my emotions in check, but I'll be in the middle of the in-laws so I should be ok hopefully.

We will play with 1 striker.

I'm expecting a draw.

A point is not a disaster. Berbatov should keep his place of course.

Be happy with a draw, just glad we're getting some hard fixtures out of the way soon.

You guys have to learn the United way.

We never settle for a draw, a draw is 2 points dropped.

We always play to win & never give up until the last minute.

Happy with a draw indeed....:nono:

3 years since we won at Goodison now. Time for a win but I can't see us winning really. Expecting a hard fought draw, though to our advantage it's early on in the season when Everton are traditionally useless.

Next two games are going to be crucial for us. Chelsea have an easy 6 points but we have 2 really hard games.

And you can feck off aswell...

I'm sure these posters want us to win, but realise Goodison is a very tricky place to go and a draw wouldn't be a disastrous result for us.

Think we will go 442 like we did last year. One of Berbatov's better games that one, and I'd hate to see him dropped after his game v West Ham. Add to the fact he'll have a 2 week rest now I'd be very surprised if he didn't start.

van der Sar

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Valencia
Scholes
Fletcher
Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov

I'm also hoping Anderson will be at least on the bench for this one. Can't wait to see him back in action for us. I think people have forgot just how good he can be at times.

Close fought game, I think we'll just edge it 2-1

O'Shea........Vidic(c)......Evans............Evra

............Carrick..Scholes..Fletcher.............

Nani...................Berbatov..............Rooney

I realise this is unlikely to be the team but I don't see why this couldn't be an option. Berbatov can't be dropped after his performances in three of the last four games, but equally I don't think we have the players to play 442 against a quality, combative midfield like Everton's. Therefore push Rooney out to the left wing where he has perfromed wonderfully before, can link up with Evra and will see alot more of the ball than he ever does up front. Nani can play on his preffered right wing and our front three can be fluid anyway. I know people don't want to see Rooney back out wide but I think some of his best performances in a utd shirt were on the wing, he's happy as long as he sees alot of the ball and he's bound to if he's sharing a flank with Evra.

Leftfield view...but it could work...

Corry Evans and Darron Gibson are on international duty as is Rafael who is called up for a week long training session with Brazil. Kuszczak hasn't been called up for Poland. Smalling, Bébé, Cleverley, Norwood, Macheda are all probably going to be on youth duty.

I'd say O'Shea might be rested after his journey to Yerevan.

----------------- VDS ------------------
O'shea ------- Vidic - Evans -------- Evra
----------- Scholes - Fletcher -----------

Valencia --------- Rooney ----------- Nani

SUBS : PIG, Smalling, Rafael, Carrick, Giggs, Berbatov, Hernandez.

If we're playing with only one up front I'd still keep Berbatov in the team, even though he isn't the best at the lone striker role. He is on great form and will have 2 weeks off over the break, compared to Rooney who is improving but not at his best and will have 2 games during the break.

A well rested and fresh team will be:

......................VDS.............................
.Rafael...Rio/Smalling...Brown....Evra.
.....Carrick...Scholes...Anderson........
..................Giggsy............................
..........Berbatov...Owen....................

Not a bad team if Rio and Brown are fit.

Would anyone play Rooney LW?

I think it is 90% likely we will play 4-3-3. I want to see Berba.

If we lose, 'Rooney playing LW doesn't work' etc, but he is going to be playing against only Hibbert.

Evra (not the player) had Rooney on the left in his pick.

Everton's worst start to a campaign for 11 years, which means we wont win.

I'd play Rooney in a 442 with Berba. We didn't strengthen our 451 setup one bit in the summer so I don't see why we should play it, although I bet we do as often as previously.
