Sunderland vs. Manchester United

Oh feck sake, this team isn't immune to criticism and 8 points dropped already isn't good enough. You'll not be saying the same thing when/if Chelsea go 5 points clear tomorrow.

Exactly. There's looking on the bright side and then there's pure delusion and too many on here are stuck firmly with the latter.

This is very true and although some might think its reactionary the signs have been there for a long time now.

Fergie should have splashed the cash because we losing ground on chelsea and fast.

With the exception of one or two areas, we have a very good squad but primarily we are screaming out for a creative midfielder or two and until that is addressed then we will continue to be in Chelsea's slipstream.

I could understand Rangers to a point.

But this game was super important. What a great opportunity to get closer to Chelsea. And the number of strange decisions throughout the match. I mean, Macheda and Owen wide left? Come on now.
I knew we're not going to win as soon as I saw Kiko and Owen up top. With those 2 starting and certain to play together for a minimum of 45 mins it meant that we had just one half to win away at Sunderland. Not to easy that.

Honestly can't understand what he was thinking of today. We again have a chance to put pressure on Chelsea and we blow it again. You would never see Chelsea resting their top players for a game like this. Can you imagine Chelsea starting with Sturridge and whoever their 5th choice striker might be away to Sunderland?
I love this place when we don't wipe the floor with teams....

Oops, I meant loath...
Then why bother coming on here when you know how it's going to be? ;)

Fergie's team selections are becoming more ridiculous by the match. His line up vs Rangers was piss poor and to "rest" Berbatov and Evra and start with the obviously impotent Owen Macheda combo is unbelievable.

Evra and Berba have 2 week breaks after this bloody hell!

Absolutely baffling all of it. We'd a great opportunity to lead the table these last 2 weekends and 2 hugely strange team selections have seen us drop 4 points.

It's beyond depressing.

Nobody expected us to wipe the floor with Sunderland today. Did we even have a shot on target? If we did, it was one at most, and I'm sorry but that's not good enough.

Fair enough but some on here are being stupid tits, as per usual... If you feel the need to defend them then I'll lump you in with them too....

:nono:

If you want to be a top red don't ever criticize the team!

Thought we were much better in the second half, but overall poor performance. Really can't afford to keep dropping these points.

Agreed.. I think we have reached our away draw quota .. These results won't matter of we go and win at Chelsea and arsenal but at the moment that's not likely ...

Then why bother coming on here when you know how it's going to be? ;)

Because some of you lot are idiots (I'm assuming your part of the crowd here) and I'm going to let you know that....

Can't disagree with any of that, it's not sacrilege to say that SAF got it wrong - it's the truth.

Get used to it. We're going to see a lot more baffling line ups. Maybe next time after a European match we should leave Vidic and Fletcher and Nani on the bench as well.

Bench: Nani, Berba, Vidic, Evra, Rooney, Fletcher, Chicharito
forget about the title.

This season is one of consolidation imo.

I will be happy enough to qualify for the CL.

Ok while I have no hope in the title that is a bit OTT

Yeah to be fair, I expected us to come 2nd or 3rd this season, but it feels worse when it's due to reasons such as this. Exactly, Chelsea wouldn't do that when the game means this much. Today just had an air of unimportance almost about it. It's a little worrysome that in all these away games our opponents seem to 'want' it more than us. It's coming across that way in a lot of away games.

Same here, saw Macheda and Owen and knew we were up against it. We're making a habit of letting these mid table sides really get stuck into us. I doubt many of them fear us ATM away from home. The impact Hernadez and Berbatov had was enough to prove that we made some terrible mistakes in our selection.

1724: Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "You have to give credit to Sunderland, their home record is fantastic. But the plus from me is that we defended very well. The back four were terrific. We've had difficult away games but the consistency of not losing is something we can take. I'm satisfied with a point."

Which would be fair enough, if we hadn't also drawn at 3 other places this season.

feck off. I'm not sitting here saying stupid things like SAF should be sacked or that this is the worst squad since 04 or whatever. I'm stating the truth. Out of the 4 away games we've had, you'd think we should have at least won 1-2 of them.

Well then why in the world are you gettin at me? do me a favour and leave me to poke fun at the idiots...

dont know what to say... depressing.

If berbatov was fit for the bench why not play him fergie??

We look a player or 2 short of a title winning team, that much has been obvious for the best part of a year yet it hasnt been addressed. We need a spark which we havent got with the current squad.

Agree with that

Being undefeated counts for naught, when it means you have drawn 4 out of 7 matches.

Its still early days though mate, its only just turned October and we are known for starting badly compared to others a lot of the time. We didn't lose today when we probably should have done and have not lost yet so there are positives to take.

Sure it was a poor game and dodgy team selection that smacked of us disrespecting them a little but if we go on a big win run then things look a whole lot better, especially when unbeaten. And don't forget, Valencia has a broken bone, Rooney is messed up at the minute and Anderson and Rio are just coming back, so as it stands being 2nd is not all that bad considering is it.

Still early days yet chaps.

Absolutely. It just makes you a lesser fan though.

It's nice that you can take these shocking performances and even more shocking line ups so well. Good on you.

Oh and to think we were laughing at Roy last week for his interview:

Yes bottom of the table Everton and Bolton are really hard opposition.

Some sense there. Pity it'll be lost amongst the "this is the worst team we've ever had!" crowd.

Wow. To be fair it's had we drawn any of these four it wouldn't look so bad in isolation. But when you're trying to win the title it has to be an aberrance rather than the norm.

While I agree with your post, how long are we going to continue to say exactly that? We said it after Fulham, we said it after Everton, said it last weekend and today as well. How long does it remain early days?

We need to start picking up wins away from home. Sure we start badly but not winning 1 of our 4 away games? And they were not even particularly hard games. What will we do at places like White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge, Anfield and the rest?

Well then why in the world are you gettin at me? do me a favour and leave me to poke fun at the idiots...

Because people are clearly frustrated on here at yet another bizarre selection by SAF and by yet another away draw, and by 8 points dropped already. Do some people on here go OTT? Yes of course they do, but the constructive criticism that others are giving is completely justified and I'm sorry, but please don't get on your high horse and have a go at people for being frustrated at yet more points dropped. You have your opinion, others have theirs so leave it be.

I've given up trying put forth my my 'Glass half full' views in matchday threads... Mine got swamped in the post FT madness...

I'm just here to laugh now... it's helping with the disappointment of more dropped points to be fair.

Exactly. 4 poor draws in a row just is not good enough. We should be sitting level with Chelsea right now and maybe even above them but instead we're likely to be 5 behind tomorrow.

Really disappointing to draw yet another away game and quite a baffling line-up by Fergie here but some people need to get a grip. Sunderland have been no mugs at home this season and have already beaten City and held Arsenal there.

We came into this one on the back of a tough away game in Europe with several key players missing and some still coming back from injury.

I'm like the rest though and cannot for the life of me understand the reasoning behind starting with Berba on the bench. I'm sure Fergie will have some explanation but in his heart of heart, he'll probably know he messed up with that one.

To say this squad is bad and well short of a title-winning bunch of players is pure spasticity though. It's pretty much the same bunch that lost the title by a point last season.

I hear ya, only thing is, we haven't exactly played world beaters away from home this season.

Remember we still have Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool(:lol: all you want, but you know they'll get a result against us), Man City, Tottenham. So when you take that into account with our current travel pains, things do look dicey. As I said, I'm not stressed about the point differential, it's the manner of these draws, and the personnel we have at hand.

I missed the match up to the 80th minute due to a power outage, But the rest was enough. There's one thing we do when we go and search for a goal, that is keeping the ball and controlling the play. And in it was them who kept the ball and came attacking.

Lucky to get at least one point from this.

Since we are bot gonna win anything this season, why not give the younger ones a chance?

Err, no thanks... If what I'm sayin doesn't apply to you then move along.

Am I not allowed to call a spade a spade now, I have to tip top around all the crying babies? Grow a pair...

No come on.. Let's hear it one last time maybe?

What are all these positives can we take from today?

I know, it's just a waste of time. But really, saying this squad is as bad as the Djemba-Djemba era, it's just mental. I'd be laughing as well if I wasn't worried that this kind of messed up perspective has come to dominate this forum. The lunatics really have taken over. What the hell were these people like in 2004/5?

no way we defended well.... and we did feck-all in attack, dropping points like this is going to kill our title hopes.....
