Premier League: 02/03 October

Nope, I'd take this all day long

And I wish the Scouse game had been on TV so I could have watched that!

Is that not a bit small time? Is Utd gaining ground on the league leaders not ultimately the most important thing?

They're already screwed. Chances are Torres will be sold aswell.

possibly. They've only got two players, one's going to be past his sell by date soon and they other one like you've mentioned is likely to get sold. The rest of the squad is god-awful. What was Rafa thinking buying all that dross?

Considering the season Torres and Gerrard are having, their most important player at the moment is Reina, just think how hopeless they would be if they had Almunia in goal?

Yeah Reina's quality, to be fair. Thing is, how much will the manager need to sort the mess out? That's even if they've got money for transfers.

Woy will do well to keep his job till Christmas.

Poor fella looks like he's aged a few years everytime he appears in front of a camera this year.

No idea. Thing is they looked to be making progress in 08/09, by far their best season since 1990. The spine of their team was excellent, they really ought to have pushed on. Their decline since is remarkable. And hilarious.

They flattered to deceive that season, to be fair. We all said it at the time.

Think Rafa wanting to swap Alonso for Barry was the beginning of the decline, mad decision.

Just out of interest, would you all take a Liverpool win if it meant Chelsea lost?

It is hilarious, but the only game I care about today is Chelsea V Arse

The two scorelines aren't related.

There's no reason to feel guilty about celebrating a Liverpool defeat just because arsenal are refusing to score.

 Anelka

Big moment...Arsenal need to make him pay for that miss.

1716: Arsenal soak up a bit of Chelsea pressure before breaking - but Abou Diaby is nowhere near alert enough when fed by Andrey Arshaving and he allows Branislav Ivanovic to get back and deflect his attempted pass/shot behind.

Yeah, I think you're probably right. He made them tick and they always looked half a team without Alonso.

fecking hell terrible defending, let off the hook

He bought those players and was their manager. He systematically destroyed the squad bit by little bit.

They didn't look finished when they pushed us all the way to the title a year before that. To suggest he systematically destroyed the squad when he has been the most successful coach they have had in 20 years is a joke. I hate them, but you're just talking shit now aren't you?

It's like them lot saying Fergie isn't a good manager...i expect someone sensible from their side to call bullshit on it, which is what i'm doing.

Are you saying that he was short of transfer funds?

Yes. He had to sell players for x amount, and buy replacements for a fraction of what the club got from the sale. This is beyond dispute.

Is left with what Benitez left them with.
A squad which finished 7th in their last season (they underachieved), and 2nd in their previous season (where they overachieved). They are still a top 6-7 side. To lose against Blackpool at home isn't Rafa fault. To blame him 100% is sheer lunacy.

He's definitely played his part in their failures, just like he's played a role in their success. Lets just be honest about it for a second is all i'm saying. He's fecked off now...you don't have to hate him with a passion anymore. It's ok. Take a deep breath and lets talk some sense. ;)

The man is coaching a relatively decent side in Italy...don't pretend like he's not good at what he does. It only makes you look silly.

No doubt they played their best in 08/09, but they still had to rely on a lot of late goals, and spent almost a third of their games up a man.

He spent about £25m in a transfer market, bought the likes of Konchesky and Poulsen who are nothing players. But he still has a relatively strong squad, surely this Liverpool team doesn't look like a team that should be struggling so much.

They had one awful season under Benitez, rest of them were pretty decent. Hodgson doesn't look like he's going to take them anywhere, surely replacing Mascherano with Meireles couldn't have done that much damage to them, it's still a very decent team. But when you let a creative player like Aquilani go on loan and replace him with a cretin like Poulsen then you're definitely heading for a disaster.

Buying Aquilani in the first place was the disaster. Compare the transfer fees.

He isn't that bad, he was injured for the most of the last season but deserved a go in the team this season. He's far better than Poulsen and there's no point loaning him to another side when you have no creative midfielders.
