Red Dead Redemption

Finally finished this today. I know the game is wonderful, I think I'm just bored of this sort of game now. I found finishing it a chore rather than a pleasure. It's a very good story though and I can understand why there's talk of basing a film around it.

I wonder how many people haven't actually finished the game though even though they think they have:

I wouldn't have done the strangers mission in Blackwater with Jack where you kill agent Ross had my friend not told me too. I thought the game had finished when John died.

You're in for something special Sarni. Quality gaming.

Hopefully. :D Next in a queue are Just Cause 2 that I bought today (though I will probably play it from time to time rather than from start to finish because it's supposed to be repetitive and its story isn't really the point of it), and all of Grand Theft Auto - think I'll start with Episodes from Liberty City, then move on to GTA IV. Oh, and there's still MGS4 and Enslaved waiting for my attention!

My PS3 was basically only collecting dust those past two years, except for the odd FIFA game (well, about 300 FIFA games a season ), now I got more into it because I have more spare time, and it looks like there are plenty of games for me to discover. I found a nice place where they trade games, and I have about 10 games in my collection at the moment, so I won't be spending much money on new titles, which means even more games. They charge me 5 pounds for an exchange.

You should probably play GTA IV first, the way it was designed to be. Then take a break with one of the other games and switch to Episodes, as too much of the same can make the experience a bit less exciting.

Those stories aren't connected though, are they? That's why I'd rather get the feeling of the city and the game first with those two relatively short stories, as GTA IV will need me to spend at least 30 hours to complete. Graphics and the city are the same in both so I will spend 50 hours in the same environment regardless which order I choose.

The stories are connected, yes. The main characters of Liberty City stories are side characters on GTA IV. The stories happen at roughly the same time but from a different perspective. And though doing them out of order is not by any means plot-breaking, I think playing IV first is better, as there are some gameplay improvements and extras on Liberty City Stories that you will miss if playing GTA IV afterwards but won't miss them if you play GTA IV before.

On 26% already, wonder how much it takes to finish the plot because I'm not going to bother much with side tasks. I like the way the characters in this game are, West Dickens and Seth have both been hilarious in their delusion. Apparently it takes around 20 hours to complete and that'd be right because I'm not on 4 and a half, it doesn't seem like there'll be much trouble with doing the missions but I like it, I don't need a huge challenge here.

54% after exactly 10 hours, now I'm back at home and having to go through all the boring missions of collecting the cattle etc. I'm not doing any bonus missions and stuff so I won't get to 100%, how many per cent does it take to complete the story? I thought it'd be over by now seeing as the events have gone but I think there may be a little more to it.

You've very nearly finished.

Really? My last mission was to collect the cattle from MacFarlane's farm. I was hoping to complete it in the next 5 hours.

You'll be done within the hour. Easily.

I know you're not doing teh extra missions, but there is 1 you should do really. After the last "proper" mission go to Blackwater and do the stranger mission that appears when you get there.

I will. Does it affect the ending or is it simply fun?

If I complete it in the next hour, it will be 11 hours long - not very long to be honest, better than Mafia 2 that I completed in about 3 hours less and it apparently allows you to continue on a free roam mode after you finish it so you could probably squeeze 20 hours out of it.

It's part of the story. It should be highlighted as a proper mission imo. I don't know why it isnt. I bet there are lots of people that haven't done it but it's quite significant really.

You can carry on with free roam with Red Dead if you choose too. You can still do all the stranger missions as well if you want.

Can I do it right now instead of at the end? Basically I have to go to Blackwater and go to one of those signs that indicate there's something to do there? I ask because I've basically never done any of these stuff.

No this particular stranger mission only appears after your last proper mission. Just set a way point to where the bank and police station are in blackwater and it will appear.

61% now, my last mission was with Jack when I killed a bear, I've completed Abigail and Uncle missions I guess. Not far off the ending now I believe although this last few missions bored me to death.

I think they just hide it to make it one of those secret ones maybe to reward the players who continued to play a little bit more after the "ending".

All right, I've done it. You meant the mission that appeared at the station, right? Cause the only one that was called Stranger was in church but the one at the station was far more important, I think.

Great, immense game, I even liked the ending - it gave a little twist and made the whole story feel more real.

Now I got four games in a queue waiting for my attention - GTA4 with Episodes from Liberty City, Assasins Creed 2, Batman:Arkham Asylum and Enslaved, and have absolutely no idea which one I'm going to start next.

The one where you kill Agent Ross.

Sarni it depends what you want. Batman is probably the shortest of the 4, AC2 is a lot of fun but very big if you want to do everything, GTA is obviously massive and the main story takes about 30 hours, Enslaved i'm only 7 chapters in but it's great fun. More of a hack and slash though.

So basically, Batman (stealth/beat em up), Enslaved (Hack and Slash), GTA (huge/shooter/driver), AC2 (stealth/exploration).

I wanted to play Assasins Creed 2 first but I've heard that it takes 25 to 30 hours to complete main story, if that's right then I will probably play something shorter first. Batman is apparently 8 hours long so it'd be a good choice, Enslaved is apparently very short too, so they'd be fine. I have to complete Enslaved before the end of November because that's when I could still exchange it and have it count at £40 that I paid for it. GTA4 I will complete anyway.

I've picked Batman, so I'm off to that thread. :D

Feck me... just saw a trailer for the zombie mode... when I heard about it I thought "nuh uh, I'm too jumpy when I'm gaming"... but it looks DAMN cool.

The four horses of the apocalypse to be obtained? Giddy-up!

Was looking forward to an extension of the one player. Not bothered with multi player so none of the DLC's thus far have appealed to me.

So am pleased that this is one player, but not so pleased that it is zombie related. Its hardly original

Not sure whether to download it or just buy the disc when it comes out in about a month - it includes all other DLCs as well. Are the other DLCs any good?

It's latest DLC, "Undead Nightmare" has just got a 10 on IGN.
Anyone had a chance to play it so far?

Very very good DLC, ending is fantastic espeically for those let down by the ending from the main game

Started Undead Nightmare over the weekend. I had forgotten how good this game is graphically. It is enjoyable so far, I love shooting zombies in the head.

Undead Nightmare is turning out to be such a game. The storyline is quite good. But its very jumpy. They swarm from everywhere!!

I found it to be quite repetitive. I completely lost interest and didn't bother finishing it.

Finished undead last night. I just love Rockstar, they make such fantastic games.

I've just got Undead Nightmare, it's pretty good. Although it's a bit too empty for me, there seems to be a hell of a lot less random encouter stuff as well.

I liked the name of the achievement for killing your first big foot "6 years in the making", a nod to that damn GTA: San Andreas rumour that had me searching the hills for days.
