MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Yes, but it's the press, they have to spice it up like all of United are sobbing their eyes out and slitting their wrists right now. "Wayne Rooney banner being carefully removed at Old Trafford" just doesn't do that:p

Correction: A banner of several Manchester United players, including Wayne Rooney, is being carefully removed from Old Trafford.

Hopefully

The longer he leaves it the harder it'll be to U-turn...he needs to make a statement before tomorrows game I feel, because there's going to be chanting and it'll be reported

eat my hats off if that happen, he made it clear to gaffer he wants out.....

My theory is he told them in the summer (and no doubt has a deal in place set up back then) and like Ronaldo was going to give one more year.

However, it's possible Fergie had found out about the deal and has been deliberately playing the situation from day one - and Rooney has got frustrated enough to force the move earlier due to a stop-start season, and has played right into Fergie's hands in terms of making himself look like an arsehole publicly.

Will we see Rooney in a United shirt again?

It will be interesting to see how Fergie plays it now!! Look to embarrass him by putting him in the reserves or drop him entirely?

I don't know but if it was in the off season, wouldn't it be more likely he just wants out of England. After the shit he got from fans and what he said on ITV, I can see him wanting to move abroad.

Fair points, though.

Actually, I would think the wisest thing in this situation is

1. Conceding we really don't know kfuc about what it's about.
2. Continue supporting Man Utd.
3. Continue supporting the manager of Man Utd.
4. Continue supporting all the players of Man Utd. (Yes, all.)
5. Bracing ourselves for the worst in secrecy.
6. Hoping for the best (which normally will arrive every other, if not every, season.)

I dont think so. Was Fergie said was some tough shit, he knew he might burn the bridges with the fans etc.

Rooney is off. For whatever reason.

MacMUFC, so if you had to bet your house on the way this is going to turn out you'd bet on Rooney staying for the long-term?

I dont gamble :smirk:

...but to answer your question, i'm 50/50. I just really cant see it, because the biggest stumbling block is the destination.

but my heart says hes staying.

and neither did Roy who wanted us to break out wage structure which denied us further top players down the years

That deal affected the fans the following season with the price increase. It did not deny us signing further top players I think, because we still signed RVD, Veron & Rio for big money.

Rooney definitely wants more money, but whether that's driving this move or not I don't know. I recently got talking to a 'close acquaintance' of one of Rooney's finance guys, and basically he has a whole team that manages his finances and even gives him a sort of 'allowance' over a certain period. Apparently he's always asking for more beyond the allowance. Gambling was suggested as a reason for this.

I can't guarantee/verify this completely but it was from a much more reliable source than some mate or random inside bloke. More sophisticated I'd say if that makes sense.

Plausible.

Makes sense..

I really hopes he goes to City. Frankly, his attitude stinks and i want to see him in the shadows of our great club for the rest of his career. No doubt going to City would push them as clear title favourites over us, but i rather take the cash, than see this cnut screw us up on a Bosman. Given his character, he could.

As for the future, a Berbatov and Hernandez partnership isn't too bad. Cheer up guys.

If that was true, City wouldn't have gone after Balotelli. Tevez, Rooney and Balotelli? All wanting to play regularly, no chance even city would have gone for it.

Don't play him at all. He doesn't deserve to wear the shirt. Not in the reserves...not even in a friendly.
