MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

am i the only one who believes that Rooney will stay?

Seems like his heads all over the place at the moment on and off the pitch, once he gets his head straight I can see the whole thing being forgotten about in 12 months

I really don't care if he goes or stays.

Fergie has stuck with him, until recently played him all the time, despite his poor form.

Thick, classless, ungrateful, spoilt twat.

That Webster ruling is absolutely fecking insane, should be allowed to let him rot for 18months not playing at all.

Realistically, probably won't get much more than £20million for a player that could buy himself out of a contract 6months later for £5m. Say what you will with regards to Ronaldo but he signed a long deal not long before leaving us, knowing full well he would be leaving only a year or two into that contract ensuring us a substantial fee.

All that unfulfilled potential and questionable personality will no longer be our problem, and as bitter as it sounds I fully hope and expect him to ruin his career elsewhere.

To think he could be playing against us in that fixture is not a nice thought

Good god we're going to miss him :(

If he goes to City we have Tevez and Rooney attacking us. If he goes to Madrid and we play them in Europe it's Ronaldo and Rooney against us :nervous:

Maybe City offering him 500k maybe the fact that he can't deal with being the focal point of a team like your Totti's and Del Pieiro's he wants to be amongst stars it seems not just the star.

Who started that rumor about 500k? I mean, if it is money of that range, I can understand.

The last part is just nonsense

By the way SAF sounded, he'd hoped till now, to change Rooney's mind, which it didn't happen, so he comes out and gives that interview. That sort of burns all the bridges back

Because he told the club this in August, before any of the stuff with his wife got out...

The only reason he could have for wanting of the country in August was getting criticised for his World Cup performances and if he's that fragile to want out for being told he played pretty badly, he's a fecking liability!

...He's never been as mentally tough as Ronaldo or Beckham, who both had legitimate reasons to get out of the country after their supposed 'controversies' and yet stayed...he's always been affected by criticism, and it's held him back from being in Ronaldo's bracket....Looks like it's fecked him up completely now.

Well we all knew there was a major impeding story about a top footballer in August, maybe this is why he decided to leave, being a coward ahead of what he knew was to come?

Agreed on the mentality, also the fact that he treats his body like shit doesn't help him at all.

So the only reason he could have for wanting out of the country in August was getting criticised for his World Cup performances.... and if he's that fragile to want out for being told he played pretty badly in 4 games, he's a fecking liability!

I do agree he's always been fragile, which is why he's blown so hot and cold as a player. It is also why Fergie is the perfect manager for him.

Being somewhere like City which will always be a circus, or Real, which is a joke of a circus, is a recipe for a Gazza-style blowup from him regardless of how successful those clubs are.

He needs careful attention and 'management'.

I do remember Ronnie saying he wanted to make sure that United was given the proper amount of money for him if he was to leave for Real

We're talking about "leaving" though, when all indications are he's not even leaving TOWN.

I never did like the fat Scouse prick. Good riddance.

Let's see how he gets on at a club that's not United. It'll be the biggest mistake of his life. Gazza II, anyone?

Good god we're going to miss him :(

And Vidic and Evra against them ...

I wish I could say this with more confidence.

Thats what some of us having been telling everybody for years. Ronaldo was the player that was our focal point of attack. Rooney happens to be a very overrated player, due to his nationality and the fact that he plays for Manchester United.

A big element of truth in that comment but I have to say Rooney hasn't been very overrated just not the supposed world class player the English media hyped him up to be. He could have been an all time great had he stayed with us but I fear he'll be regarded as someone who nearly did it. Not to say he won't win trophies with whoever he goes to...who knows I just doubt he'll be the pivotal player he was here.

Hope we get Rooney to realize the same
On a different note, I'd love to see him go to Real. Away and for a lot of money

Most people on here would argue Berbatov or Nani are the most frustrating players to watch, and they have their moments but for me its Rooney. He has had the first touch of a rapist for a good 3yrs now, even when he scored 30+ last season, most of them were poacher finishes which i believe Hernandez will/is be better than him at anyway. Rooney also for me goes missing in the crucial games far too much for a' Top 3 in world' player.

We were only willing to let Ronaldo go for a world record fee. Rooney's tactics have in some ways ensured that we wont get anywhere near as much for him. Would it have been so hard for him to have a bumper contract from the summer till Jan?

It was around the time that the stories of a high profile player getting a court injunction over his personal life came out. I think combined with his being awful in the World Cup and knowing that his cheating on Colleen would come out, he wanted to leave England. I'm not sure that one or the other could make him want out, but being assaulted non-top by the media doesn't help. He's a coward to run away.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see that. He's having a torrid time, his form has dipped and he doesn't want to play for United. That's not someone treating a club like shit, that's someone who's having a torrid time and doesn't want to play for United. We're big boys and girls, there's loads of people out there who don't want to play for United, we'll get over him. At least he's being honest.

The door's still open for him so let's see if we can't change his mind or, if he goes abroad, wish him well.

I mean, if he goes to City all bets are off but that's just my two cents worth.

He's demanded a transfer in August...he wouldn't have done that unless he wanted out before the end of the transfer window. Yet nobody knew a thing until Fergie came out and explained it today...that's not honest. Ronaldo was "honest" and he got slammed for it. Rooney's been deceiving and by all credible evidence (i.e. Fergie's quotes today, and Rooney publicly contradicting him last week), stroppy and childish.

I don't think he will play for us again anyway, because Fergie's taken the view (going by his quotes to MUTV) that Rooney's presence is having a negative and unfair impact on the team as a whole. There's no way he's going to put a player in the side if it'll risk causing disruption, and Fergie never critices players unless he's washed his hands of them already.

He can say "the door is still open", but he basically has to say that, because he can't shift Rooney until January at the earliest, and he has to avoid making himself a villain in the eyes of the squad while Rooney is still among them.

I like (liked) Rooney but I don't think there's a defence for him to be honest. Even Ronaldo and Tevez were grown up enough to still get on with the job properly, and not silly enough to burn their bridges when the transfer window was still months away.

If he's Madrid bound then it could be Michael Owen all over again.

Sold from Real Madrid to Sunderland, where he is plagued by injury until he leaves on a free.

Liverpool then sign him, and he scores against Everton in the last minute before not doing much else?

Everton have confirmed to me clause still in force. 25% of any fee over what they have already received, which is currently around £26m.

Edit: Phil McNulty, on Twitter.

Does anyone really honestly think we'll sell him to City, voluntarily?

I can't even begin to credit the idea...

At least Old Trafford will be a scouse free zone i suppose, and we can all sing if you all hate scousers clap your hands and such like without having to cheer one on.

isn't owen a scouser too

Duno about that. He was immense in all our biggest games last season, until he got injured anyway.

Arsenal away. Milan away. The derby CC games. Outstanding in all of them.

I think we all gathered he wasn't the brightist person, but the way he has gone about this has made me realise how brainless he actually is, the fans loved him, club and manager protected him on many occasions, future captain/legend, then he goes and stabs it all in the back.

I think he might stay.
I don't want him to though.
Not behaving the way a Manchester United player should.

There is not such a thing it doens't exist. Players will come and go all we ask is that we keep producing great players regardless of how they behave.

Chan Ching!!!!

Of course we will and hopefully Liverpool will do the honours and hand us over Torres!!
