MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Big difference between Catona's comments and Keane's comments.
Gotta say I thought Keane's comment a little distasteful. He strikes me as a real bitter cnut

Very good point. Both potential geniuses that seemed to be bound by a self destructive steak

If he goes to City I couldn't give a flying feck if he declines Gazza-style

...and That!

I'd hate to have to see Rooney's career end up in the shitter but I'd love to be first in line to say "I told you so"

I'm your new favourite? Another patronising pillock, i see.

The fact that you can't see past your need to try and get some recognition and laughs on an internet forum with comments like that and not be able to realise that getting within a few games of winning the biggest club competition in the world is close....well that's just plain laughable to be honest.

:lol::lol::lol:

I can't tell if this guy is serious or not. Excellent WUMing mate, you're such a joker.

Wow, I actually agree with Green. He says that if it's true that Rooney wasn't happy with how the quality of the squad was, he owes it to the club to be the focal point and make it better, not leave and make it worse.

I dont think he's intelligent enough to work all that out. Its his agent telling him he can get more money elsewhere IMO

I'm deleting him on Pro. Not moving him. Deleting. And I'm going to give him alopecia.

He was injured most the season for me in Fifa 11 and Berbarito did fine. I'm going to sell him this upcoming season. To hell with him.

out of the blue yes, but he's been so rubbish lately, do you really care, Spoony?

Jaybus... you think the previous 6 years were a fluke?! He's been so good for us that it'd take a lot of us more than a half a year for us to forget what class he has.

Not sure if this has already been posted ...

Fergie - Rooney wants out
United boss admits star striker is keen to leave Old Trafford

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Wayne Rooney has intimated to him that he wants to leave Manchester United.

He claims to have held a meeting with the talismanic frontman and his representative, during which the 24-year-old admitted that he has no intention of signing a new contract and is keen to take on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Speculation had been mounting that Rooney could soon be on his way out of Old Trafford after seeing his relationship with his manager stretched to breaking point.

It is claimed that the England international feels frozen out at present, having been omitted from games he believes he was fit enough to play in - with United continuously claiming that he was nursing an ankle knock.

Rooney admitted as much after turning out for his country in a recent Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro, revealing that he had no idea as to why Ferguson continued to overlook him.

The United boss is said to have been incensed at seeing his authority undermined and has made little effort to interact with his star striker ever since.

That has fuelled rumours that Rooney could be on his way in the January transfer window, with Ferguson's decision to leave him on the bench for Saturday's Premier League meeting with West Brom only serving to fuel the fire.

The usual suspects have already been linked with a big-money approach in the New Year, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea all reported to be waiting in the wings.

But it is local rivals Manchester City that have been installed as the early 9/4 favourites with Sky Bet to snap up the striker.

Bad news

Ferguson insists there has been no falling out between himself and Rooney, claiming the door is still open for him to stay, but acknowledges that a bidding war is now likely with the player making it clear that he intends to move on.

"David (Gill, chief executive) telephoned me and said he was on his way over because he had some bad news," Ferguson told MUTV.

"His agent said he wouldn't sign his contract and wanted away.

"Dealing with the next step was always going to be decisive for us, how we dealt with the situation.

"I asked to have a meeting with the boy and he reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go.

"The one thing I said to him was 'respect this club', I don't want any nonsense from you.

"I don't know if he has done that. I have doubts on that, we are reading all these things about falling out with me and all that nonsense.

"It's disappointing because we have done everything we possibly can to help Wayne Rooney ever since he came to the club.

Advice

"We have always been here as a harbour for him any time he has been in trouble, the advice we have given him, I was even prepared to give him financial advice.

"But it's not just Wayne Rooney, we have done that for all the players.

"Wayne has been the beneficiary of that, just as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes have...so there has been no falling out.

"So there we are, we have got into a situation where we had to clarify this for our fans because what we saw on Saturday was unacceptable.

"When we got to 2-2 (against West Brom) and they were chanting Wayne Rooney, it's a pressure on the players and didn't do the team any good so we had to clarify the situation and put it right."

Ferguson added: "It was a shock. I couldn't believe it.

"In early discussions - in March I think - we had discussions with him, he intimated he wanted to stay, that he wanted a life contract with the club, that he was at the best club in the world. It was terribly disappointing to get the news.

"We couldn't understand it."

Offer

Ferguson insists no approach has been lodged for Rooney as yet and has sought to make it clear that the offer of a new contract remains on the table should the striker change his mind.

"There's no offer on the table as they are not prepared to listen to an offer but there's always an offer from Manchester United to negotiate with any player and that's still there," he said.

"I am disappointed, I can't believe it. When you manage Manchester United there is always something you have to deal with and we have had to deal with these situations before. It's not as easy as it was a few years ago.

"We are dealing with agents who are living in the pockets of players, it's a different world and we have to deal with it."

At the moment I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that it's similar to the Keane and Rio situations in the past. Or he's had enough of the media attacking his personal life (the details didn't officially come out till September but he knew they were coming from early August I believe - same basic timing to when Fergie has said the contract talks broke down) and is somewhat depressed and wants out of the country.

If it's the former, hopefully we come to a deal (as long as he's asking for a realistic amount). If the latter, hopefully once things settle down he'll come back to his senses and sign the new contract.

Give him the benefit of the doubt for now. If things are worse than that I'm sure we'll know soon enough and we can then attack him mercilessly. But if it is 'just' one of the situations I've mentioned above, our own fans turning on him could push him out the door. Basically, don't cheer for him but (for now at least) don't boo him either. Absolutely no good can come from that, but a hell of a lot of bad can.
After watching the Fergie interview, the Keane/Rio comparison doesn't look right. Fergie seemed to be sure Rooney truly wanted to leave, rather than just looking for a bigger pay packet.

The wanting to make a new start for his family is still definitely a possibility though, and if it proves to be that and he ends up changing his mind once things settle down and signs the new contract I wouldn't hold it against him at all.

I can't remember Fergie's interview word for word... Did he say that Rooney wants to leave i.e transfer request, or just that he is refusing to sign a contract?

If it's the latter is it possible that Rooney is just unhappy with the lack of top signings and wants to see improved investment in the team during what remains of his contract before tieing his future to the club? And possibly also uncertain about what lies ahead with Fergie retiring soon?

I'm clutching at straws aren't I? :(

He said "he is adamant about leaving". Exact words. A formal transfer request has not been handed in but he wants to leave.

Would you back Fergie if...

...he sticks Rooney in the stands from now until he goes (assuming he does go)?

Even if it results in us winning nothing this season?

EDIT: Let's assume he was on form.

I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt before I start calling him a cnut etc. I want to know the reasoning behind the decision first.

For me, there's 2 things that could have happened:

1. He wants to move abroad to get away from the media and Coleen might have something to do with that too. If it is that, it is just about understandable and he won't get boos from me if he ever returned.

2. His agent has been told that he will be paid x amount of money a week if he signs for City. If it is this - then I will never forgive the cnut. As a relatively young supporter, that's so hard for me to comprehend as he's been my favourite player for so long. But as many of you so rightly say, we will live on.

It's apparent that he is being badly advised either way and he's not the smartest anyway. I just hope there is some way this can be salvaged.

Your argument against my opinion is too compelling. I concede. You are teh king of teh internetz.

Again, as is pretty common on here, this has turned from my simple opinion that Rooney is a world class player into a group of wankers thinking they can be one of the boys by ripping into someone, most likely because they have a higher post count and therefore feel the need to wave their e-peen around.

Fact is, none of you has even attempted to address the topic relevant points i have made in my posts with anything closely resembling anything intelligent.

I stand by my point. Rooney is a world class player. And if it satisfies your urge to be feckwits, being three games away from winning the CL is pretty fecking close.
