MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Yes. At the moment there is no reason for Ferguson to do anything other than that. No form, "injury troubles", state of mind, the fact we have other players in form and needing to play, plus the confirmation of his desire to leave means there is no reason at all for giving Rooney game time.

Yes. If his heart is already elsewhere, why bother playing him. I'd rather Kiko get on the pitch before Rooney.

Of course. Despite Fergie saying that the door is still open, I'm sure he regards Rooney as history already. I'd be surprised if he starts another game.

I'd back Fergie virtually what ever he does, he knows far better than all those on here who question him repeatedly. At the moment I'd like to see Rooney on the bench so we can see how Rooney reacts. Does he warm up enthusiastically, does he urge the boss to sub him on, etc, but this is largely for selfish reasons - as I would like some insight into Rooney's state of mind. SAF has better access to Rooney than us so he mightn't feel this necessary of course.

If you are angling for an improved contract, refusing to even sit down to discuss a new contract seems like a strange strategy.
Yep, which is one of the reasons I've pretty much written that possibility off. Also the way Fergie was talking it didn't seem like contract negotiations broke down, more so that Rooney just decided one day he didn't want to sign one at all. That could be Fergie mind-games, but doubtful.

Your argument against my opinion is too compelling. I concede. You are teh king of teh internetz.

Again, as is pretty common on here, this has turned from my simple opinion that Rooney is a world class player into a group of wankers thinking they can be one of the boys by ripping into someone, most likely because they have a higher post count and therefore feel the need to wave their e-peen around.

Fact is, none of you has even attempted to address the topic relevant points i have made in my posts with anything closely resembling anything intelligent.

I stand by my point. Rooney is a world class player. And if it satisfies your urge to be feckwits, being three games away from winning the CL is pretty fecking close.

Rooney isn't and never has been a World Class player, one season no matter how good doesn't make you World Class, do it for 2/3/4 seasons on the bounce and you have a point, he didn't and as a result isn't.

3 games from winning the CL is bullshit, does this mean Lyon have a legitimate claim to having the trophy within their grasp?

Yes. The only reason I'd play him would be to increase the counts value. I still can't believe Rooney is doing this to us.

Yes, because United and Fergie are always about the future.

Its the very core of our success. If Rooney has no future at our club, then he certainly doesn't have a present.

"When" he plays ?......."If" he plays ?.
It can go either way. Rooney has just lost all his "lifelines"....theres no goodwill left between him and the fans.

IF he plays....and plays badly.....the crowd will get on his back. And Rooney is a loose cannon. You could very easily see him reacting...leaving the pitch at Old Trafford...in much the same way he did when he left the pitch in South Africa (after the Algeria game).
He has form in that respect.
But likewise if he gets a 92nd minute winner in a game, the crowd will cheer him to the rafters......"Good old Roo" and "Fergie Fergie sign him up".

But not having played at Goodison Park, I cant actually see him playing at Eastlands. Effectively he will only be available for some matches. Whether Injury, Form or "his head isnt right"......he is already an ex-United player.

Football fans are frankly stupid. It took me 50 years to grow out of it. We invest too much trust in players. They let us down. Well some do. But in the case of Rooney it seems it cant be fixed.
The Manager might actually mean it when he says the door is still open. But it would never be the same again.
In a few months.....good ole Wayne will be just another scouser.

Hes not a nice person. Some footballers are not nice people. Some are very nice people.
Some people are born into situations which are difficult. Many do well...........having a decent family is the one true advantage in life. And being a good business man, or thru education or thru football people can rise above "social difficulties".
But I feel sorry for Alex Ferguson and the staff at Old Trafford.
Sometimes you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Damn iPhone predictive text. I'm not going to edit "counts" as I'm sure you can all guess what I meant.

I'd back Fergie regardless of the "if".

I've said it loads of times, and I actually do mean, that I'd back Fergie unconditionally, he's earnt it.

Obviously you can fly into hypotheticals like "What if Fergie deliberately attempts to get us relegated?" but within the realms of realism, Fergie's earnt my complete and utter trust.

Unlike countless other Judas buggers who've begun to plague the club, SAF has always been there (he's been at the club longer than I've been alive) and he's never shown a sign of anything else being even remotely bigger than the club.

I can understand, to a certain extent, people claiming that Tevez is not world class. But Rooney too?

Depends on the situation. If Rooney is trying to force us to sell to City so he can get his 200k+ a week and causes problems behind the scenes or in public, then absolutely.

If he's struggling with his personal demons and is doing this to try to rescue his marriage, then no.

If it's something else, well, as I said before - depends on the situation.

if a deal is in place and it has no bearing on his transfer value / he isnt in a position to terminate his contract(like pandev) then i would love to see fergie stick him in the reserves
not very likely tho

oh and i'd back fergie regardless of what he does .. the man is GOD

I don't even see how Rooney can play for us unless he does a U-Turn. The fans are angry, his team mates can't feel easy with the situation, and looking at how he performed in the last couple of months, can we even expect him to do a good job? Does he even deserve to play over players who have their futures vested with us?

I see a comfortable 'Rooney out for three months following ankle injury' story.

I'd quite like to see the fat fecker rot in the reserves or not playing at all for the next 18 months.

I was in work all day and following most of this on Twitter. From Rio's reaction I'm guessing training was before the press conference and the players didn't know?

Messing us about in other words?

I disagree. Today's events might tarnish the fondness he's remembered with by United, but it shouldn't tarnish the work he did here. It's sad to see United fans react by deriding his efforts in a United shirt. All of us lucky enough to see his 6 seasons here should know better.

If he wasn't world class he wouldn't be in the position he's in whereby he can likely pick any club in the world and move there, Barcelona and Real Madrid included.

He's an odd player to categorise, Rooney. There might be better pure strikers out there but there are few better out and out footballers, and very few individuals you'd rather have on your team. He's clearly world class to me.

Yes, wouldn't have it any other way. He shouldn't be taking space of a player who wants to play for the club.

Yes.
Fergie is more often right than wrong.
And he is more often right than every member of this forum.
Fergie will do whats right for Manchester United.
Remember that Rooney did not/could not play at Goodison. With real injury today, borderline injuries over past few weeks, form etc.......I cant see him playing many more games for us.
Can you really see him scoring a hatrick at Eastlands.
It wont affect his value.
I dont think Chelsea will buy him. Or Barcelona.
And that leaves only Citeh and Real Madrid.....and prolly Real have too much class to consider him.

When he is unveiled as a player at (presumably) Manchester City it is likely that we will all be disappointed in just how much we get for him.
And from the moment he leaves the Agent and Rooney will be taking every chance to say it was NOT about money.
