MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

So for everything you previously said... You actually believe Rooney's statement!

And you dont ?

You don't beleive for one second that what Gill told his agent caused Rooney to think "feck that.. I can get more at City"

Whatever Gill said to Rooney, it clearly wasnt enough, and given the situation we all know its very probable those kinds of discussions did take place.

What Rooney has said is most probably 100% true. Whats wrong with it is a ) when he's said it, b) Whats caused him to come out and say it and c ) what he stands to gain from saying it.

I wonder how Bebe, Hernandez and Berbatov feel now.

Rooney basically said that they're all shit.

It's quite amusing to see people lining up to say he should stay where he is and he's in the best place he can be.

But on the reverse side, Gill has constantly come out and told us that there are no restrictions, and things are no different to the PLC or at any other club.

Now if he's told Rooneys agent differently, then what exactly has been said needs to be out in hte open.

Are we or are we not being restricted by the Glazers.

I am not excusing Rooneys behaviour. It fecking sucks. However, that said, the fact he's come out and laid the blame squarely at Gills door suggests to me that Gill isnt being 100% truthful either.

What really fecks me off though, is that in the summer, Real were sniffing. WHy didnt Rooney come out then and ask to go, when United could have commanded a far better price.

Because doing it now gave him more bargaining power....

Do you think Smalling and Bebe are going to be two of the best players in the world so?

I don't know. You are claiming they won't though, so quit trying to turn it around.

You have no idea about how these young players we are signing nowadays stack up to the great ones of the past. You are also forgetting about all the failed young players we have signed.

I take it you believe Rooney then?

Yorkie reckons he'll still stay

Yorkie's been pretty good tonight. There was some hurt in his eyes when he was talking about looking back and thinking he maybe didn't do enough to stay at the club.

Also max respect to him for verging on implying that Rooney's full of shit earlier. He then back-peddled and made out that he thought Rooney was talking about players being brought in - not the players already here - but I genuinely thought the way he shaped into it he was about to say "Rooney's full of it".

Come on lads lets remember the good times we had with him... That wonder goal against Newcastle and him leaving!

Do you mean journos or posters? Obviously posters will think he's at the best club. It's the club we love.

Journos mate, almost everyone I've seen/heard speak about it have said he's being a plank and he should stay where he is.

edit: and pundits, it was hearing Souness on sky saying it that prompted my post.

Do you think Smalling and Bebe are going to be two of the best players in the world so?

Smalling has every possibility of becoming as good as Rio from what i've seen of him. He has a real chance to be a great defender, just very, very inexperienced currently.

Can't judge Bebe considering i've not seen him play football bar the 10min spell he had.

Chico will become a great striker for us in my mind. He's an opportunist as proved in the World Cup and will score important goals.

Frankly, the only players recently that have big question marks over their heads are Bebe, Diouf and Obertan. All of whom haven't had much gametime.

Rooneys a cnut. Sooner he's gone the better for team morale. Hope we prove him wrong tonight.

So you know Smalling and bebe aren't going to become great players huh? Have you ever thought of being a scout?

No one does, which makes Rooney's demands on assurances on future squad absolutely rubbish.

What kind of assurances he want? If X is shit, sell X and buy Y? Doesn't he know that he too would be subject to such a policy or has he become so think that he's exempt from it.

How anyone can be so sure this will be the case is beyond me.

We've a group of experienced player's retiring soon, we have the greatest manager ever but he too is not a million years away from retirement, this is bad enough but when you see the debt heaped on the club and the interest rates, along with the lack of investment in adding quality to the squad in recent times, I'd say it'd be folly of us to believe our domination is sure to continue. Especially in light of the superior finances elsewhere in the PL and in Europe.
If he'd waited two years or so and we were falling away from the top then I wouldn't have too much problem with him. In fact, I've said before (in a purely hypothetical sense) that if we somehow became a mid-table club I'd expect Rooney to move on, simply because he's too good to not be competing at the top. If we'd become mid-table a decade ago I expect Giggs and maybe even Scholes to have left to clubs that were competing at the top. Very few of the players we consider as legends (or near that level) would actually have stuck around during their prime years if we weren't at the top. Robson's the only one I can think of off the top of my head to have done that. A few others would've, but many wouldn't have.

But Rooney didn't make this decision on the back of us sliding down the table and becoming one of the 'lesser' teams. In the last four seasons we've won three premierships and lost the other by one point after an unprecedented defensive injury list. We've won a CL, got to another final, a semi-final and a quarter-final. It's not like I'm going back to ancient history here, it's only the most recent four year period. Four years where I'm fairly certain we have been the most successful club in europe bar none.

So either this is an absolute bullshit excuse to cover for pure greed of money, or he's the most impatient prat to ever pull on our shirt where one season where we just missed out on winning the premiership by one point and he couldn't handle being the one who was supposed to be the difference-maker that we built the team around. Almost certainly the former who tells himself it's the latter so he can sleep better at night.

Another conspiracy theory: Do you think this is a ruse by United & Rooney, to distract the public from his recent little embarrassing episode? If it is, they may carry this too far.

Can someone please explain to me why Vidic then signed a new contract ? Going by rooney's statement it must mean that Vidic has no ambitions and wants to rot as a professional.

Bah, come on Wayne, atleast try and sound logical, its beyond a scouser to do so, but jeez, this is taking BS to a whole new level.

I take it you believe Rooney then?

I had more hopes for the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo and Keane than I do for the likes of those.

If it's the case that the basis for our future lies in these types of players, then again it is conceivable to believe that we are not matching the ambition of other teams.

If we are showing the ambition that some seem to believe we are showing, who are these players? The top players we have gone for have quite publicly dismissed us.

You take it that I believe Rooney about what? About us not signing better players? Of course I do, look at our transfers over the last 10 years and you will see that we aren't in the market for the types of players we used to be. We have not signed a top class players since we signed Tevez. That was 2007. I'm not saying that I believe that this is the reason that Rooney wants to leave, but if he is using it as an excuse, it's a damn good one.

I think that Alex Ferguson would be in the market for the top class players if he had the funds for it. But we don't realistically. It's down to the owners in my opinion.

The biggest proof that rooney is not honest is simply the timing of his statement.

if he really loved the club and the supporters he should have made it after the game not two hours before a game.

So Rooney's main reason for wanting to leave the club is lack of investment, saying that the club has not replaced quality for quality.

Berba was brought and thus limited Tevez playing time causing him to look else where. So in Berba replaced Tevez same quality player. How do you replace a player of Ronaldo's quality you cant, the only man that could replace him Messi and his not leaving Barca any time soon.Sir Alex went out and got a very good winger in Valencia who was a very large reason why Rooney had the season he did last year. So to say there has been no investment in the squad is far of the mark.

He better hope that Vidic doesn't see it that way. This gets worse by the hour. The sooner we're rid, the better.

I'll add to this, that I'd rather see the likes of Hernandez playing for our club every week, who just stepping onto the pitch looks like he is living out his dream and when he scores looks like a 12 year old kid who's just scored a world cup winner, over some money grabbing whore who thinks he's bigger than the club.

No its not..

I want to hear EXACTLY what GIll has to say for himself.

I want to know what Rooney was told.

This shit has gone on long enough. Time for David GIll to start telling us the truth.. Not the bullshit, the truth.
