MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

You posted something about developing youngsters (saying that people thought that Ronaldo and Rooney wouldn't be world class or something to that extent) and saying that there was no value, did he say them today or are they recycled?

The official champs league post match press conference, am trying to find it

You posted something about developing youngsters (saying that people thought that Ronaldo and Rooney wouldn't be world class or something to that extent) and saying that there was no value, did he say them today or are they recycled?

They were fresh.

So Fergie basicaly called Villa a cow

If there is truth in the below, maybe Gill, Ferguson and owners will get together to improve the offer?

Manchester United legend Lou Macari has revealed to talkSPORT a trusted Old Trafford insider told him Wayne Rooney's reasons for wanting to leave: Money.

While pundits have postulated on why Rooney has refused to sign a new contract, Macari believes his reasons are less than honourable.

And he expects Rooney to never don the red of United again.

Macari told Drive Time: “I spoke to someone at Old Trafford who I trust with my life – I know he is honest and genuine – and he said to me it is down to nothing else except money. And I believe that.

“I have heard all these reports about this or that happening, but it is simply an open market for Wayne Rooney and whoever pays the most money to him and his agent, that is where he will go.

“It is all about money. You can forget about rifts with the manager, that he is not happy with the team at the moment or that he is concerned about silverware in the future.

“That is all nonsense – it is all about money. So whether it is Manchester City or abroad I don't really care.“

I saw Lou Macari interviewed on Sky Sports News.....The interview took place at pitch side at Old Trafford.
A few minutes later I tuned into Talksport (I know I Know....Ill hate myself in the morning) and there was Lou Macari again.
Now Ive no problem with Lou getting interviewed all day and all night by every broadcaster in the world......but I think that this kind of clearly facilitated witha "United legend" INSIDE Old Trafford will nearly always parrot the party line.
Lou Macari nailed his colours (no pun intended) during the Green and Gold demos.

Now in this particular case......I have no problem with the "party line" as all my previous posts have shown.
But we really need to be careful about former players who appear licensed by the United authorities to say the right thing.

Yes. It isn't possible in the top flight except for emergency situations.

This ain't one. The window is closed.
Only way they could do it if all their strikers and reserve strikers were injured right? No worry of that then.

And why are we all assuming it's City. There's yet hope. It could be Madrid!

A few people are suggesting a loan deal to city with the view to a permanent one, well how will city register Rooney? They've registered their 25 and I could have sworn that you can't change that until january?

Thanks.

Almost certain it can be changed in January, otherwise it makes the Transfer Window void unless a team wants to risk registering 24/23/22 players to keep spots for January.

has anyone got the sky post-match analysis capped? seems like i missed out on all the fun and games :(

SAF transcript:
"To maintain the success at any football club is not a success-driven certainty, i.e. I always believe a four-year cycle is probably the most you can achieve in terms of success. Very few teams can create more than that four-year cycle. Last season we almost did it, we were one point short of winning the league for a record fourth time.

"We realised that to maintain that high consistency of being there challenging we had to inject youth into the club and we’ve been doing it for the last three or four years. We realised some years ago that Giggs, Scholes and Neville were never going to last forever and our policy is therefore to develop players within the club. We had a player that once said to me Rooney and Ronaldo weren’t good enough. Can you believe that? He actually said they weren’t good enough and he wasn’t prepared to wait until they were. That’s what happens, that’s the problem with potential – people don’t identify potential, they’re very poor at it. I’ve identified it all my life within young people – I know potential, I know how it can be developed and I know how to have faith in it - young people surprise you when you give them an opportunity. And that’s what this club is about. So when you see Manchester United at the moment with all these young players, you can’t see Manchester United three years ahead because you’re not thinking about that.

"We will invest in players when the time is ready. This summer wasn’t the right time as far as I was concerned; there was no value for me. There was one player who we would have liked to have got but he chose another club. I don’t think he ever wanted to come to England anyway. Some players don’t want to leave their country, it’s a fact of life, some players are happy in their own country. Some players are happy to leave and Manchester United is always a big attraction for any player. If they don’t want to leave their country then we forget about it.

"In terms of the future of Manchester United there are a lot of things in my favour – history, the respect we have from people – if I told you how many agents phone my secretary every week about players who would love to play for us - and I don’t just mean run of the mill players, I’m talking about players at almost every club in the world - it would amaze you. It’s because this club still has that fantastic romance and respect from everyone.

"Sometimes you look in a field and you see a cow and you think it’s a better cow than the one you’ve got in your own field. It’s a fact. But it never really works out that way. It’s probably the same cow which is only as good as your own cow. We have to deal with that – some players like to think that it’s a better world somewhere else, it never really works like that.

"As I said, three Premier League titles in a row is fantastic and we were within one point of a record fourth. It didn’t happen for us and we didn’t like that and we want to do something about it. We’ll be okay – I’ve got every confidence in that. We have a structure at the club which is good, we have the right staff, the right manager, the right chief executive, he’s a brilliant man. There’s nothing wrong with Manchester United, not a thing wrong with it. So we’ll carry on."

Then I'm struggling to see how this will be "put to bed" tomorrow.

It'll be a case of Gill & SAF deciding the next steps for the player. As in, what the club will do. Putting it to bed for him will be a case of saying almost that he'll be transfer listed for January, nothing more.

I'm betting it was Keano who said Rooney and Ronaldo weren't good enough... The sad, bitter bastard.

EDIT - Or maybe Ruud. Actually, yes probably Ruud, again, insert Sad, bitter Bastard or any other insult you may so wish.

I reckon Ruud

Non of that would stop the speculation though, as long as he's here at the club, this will hang over us.

Learn to handle it, because he can't be transferred until then.

The team will move on and people will know he's on the market or is going somewhere specific.

Instant gratification has really gotten extreme in 2010, hasn't it?

Some players think it’s better somewhere else. That’s not always the case.”

Fergie hit back at Rooney’s claim of a lack of proper investment in United’s squad, which the striker cited as his reason for wanting out.

“We will invest in signature players when the time is ready,” said Fergie. “This summer wasn’t right for me. There was no value. There was one player we identified, but he didn’t want to come to England.

“Some players don’t want to leave their country but Manchester United is still an attraction for players. So in terms of the future, there are a lot of things in our favour.

Great transcript. The player he's talking about must be a player who stayed in his country, i.e. not Özil, not Di Maria but Villa.

I'm betting it was Keano who said Rooney and Ronaldo weren't good enough... The sad, bitter bastard.

Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy are United legends. You don't know who that player is yet you slag them off.

Now Fernando Torres woud have actually a reason to be unhappy with his club.

I dont think so , that is fecking bad news ,do we want a player that is only fit for 50% of a season?

Well we won't rush him back the way Liverpool always have. If he ever does come here it'll be a great signing for us.

RvN was a toy-throwing prat who turned in transfer requests three consecutive seasons.

Keane has proven what he's all about time and time again.

We're permitted to call it like it is, even if they've been legends during their playing careers at the club.

Call it like it is? We don't know who that player is, it's an assumption, so how can this be calling it "like it is"?

I was just about to post a reply to that post, but this one has done it for me.
