MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Could you imagine it though, Rooney leaves United to join shitty and Torres leaves Liverpool to replace him at United, you just couldn't for a moment imagine the uproar that would cause, it would be an unheard of set of events, some would have said impossible as little as a week ago.

The problem with Torres is, he is, I believe, a man of principle. He probably wouldn't join Manchester United for the same reason as he wouldn't join Real Madrid: he would see it as a betrayal to Liverpool.

I must admit, when I saw Torres in Spain, I always thought he was a bit of a pretty-boy and wouldn't cut it in the Premier League. Having seen what he has done at Liverpool (injuries aside - although how many were genuine and not Rafa's nonsense?) I have had to swallow every word.

I too feel Torres is need of a change. He looks unmotivated and honestly who can blame him. For all his talent he is being wasted at Liverpool. He surrounded by talent of years past and is in dire need of some quality in a strike partner.

----------------------VDS------------------------
--Rafa------------Rio-----Vidic-------------Evra--
----------------Fletcher--------------------------
--Nani-------------------Scholes----------Giggs--
--------------Berbatov---------------------------
------------------------------Torres-------------

Of course the likelihood of this happening is next to zero it still makes for a fantasy. Of course you have to think about how good we'll be once Valencia comes back. That would be a ton of speed on the attack with Nani and Valencia on the wings and Torres on the fly. Not to mention Berbatov holding up play and Scholes spraying pinpoint passes all down the wings.

I'll end there. Im  too much just thinking about it

Save this bollocks for the transfer forum for feck sake

I really wonder how in the world their going to "put this to bed within 24 hours".

This is starting to make Ronaldo look like an angel.

They're going to take Wayne into a room, tell him if he doesn't sign the contract, he will be put on pizza, beer and fags leave until his current contract runs out.

All they need is that shitty little WR squiggle off him and they'll let him go wherever the hell he wants in order to fulfill his ambition to be the biggest loser in the history of football.

Rooney's whole argument over United not being able to attract stars may be valid to your average muppet, but you could argue the team is stronger than last year. And remember, United should have beat the eventual winners of the CL and would have won the league with just about the same team we have now if not for a couple stupid mistakes. Rooney wanting a change is understandable, but don't blame the clubs ability to recruit as your excuse. What had he acheived when he got here? Nothing...and if he had stayed at everton he would have remained nothing.

Ashevegas? As in Asheville or Asheboro?

Serious question now lads. What happens next?

1) Do United get as much money as they can for Rooney and set up a deal for the summer, even go so far as to deal with City in order to maximize their losses?

2) Do United let Rooney go at a cut price on their terms, preferably abroad where he can't come back to haunt the club?

3) Do United keep Rooney for the rest of his contact, running the risk of him not changing his mind and him leaving for nothing in 18 months?

4) Do United leave Rooney out until January, de-valuing him further, and sell him at a cut price?

It is a very awkward situation, due to the fact the whole world knows his contact clock is ticking.

For me, the best option would be the 2nd one, and that only works should Rooney be prepared to go abroad.

It would be a nightmare to see him in the Premier League lining up against us for any team.

I think option 3 could have been used if all this had been handled differently by Rooney. Obviously he has decided he wants to go and won't change his mind, otherwise the nonsense after the West Brom game would not have been peddled by his staff.

They knew by doing that, he was signing his death warrant with United, Fergie and the fans.

Seems an odd move for a player to limit his options so dramatically.

Still feel this story has another twist and turn. It just doesn't feel right:

Colleen and Kai turned up to watch him the other day and he was benched, the whole ankle injury saga and the training ground photos from yesterday, Rooney stating he was surprised at Fergie's news conference, Fergie saying he had met with Rooney but didn't know why he was leaving, Rooney suddenly changing his mind after stating in March he wanted a life contract and wanted to emulate Ryan Giggs... I could go on

Surely it is not just me who thinks something is seriously odd in all of this?

I reckon they'll have a proper sitdown in the next few days to see where both club and Rooney stand. I think Sir Alex will do what ever is possible to keep him at the club, but at the same time, if he's as pig headed and arrogant as it seems, then all is lost. But he will not join Manchester City no matter how much those cnuts want. It will be Madrid or he'll stay.

If he stays it will take a long time before we trust him again.

This is the best option for all parties at this juncture I reckon. If we can sell him to Real we can perhaps soften the lesser cash amount with a player.

If he went to Madrid, he'd be back in England within a year or two.

I read somewhere that Coleen had ruled out any moves abroad though.

I guess this depends largely on the rumour that City are talking £300k per week.

Forget what Rooney says about trophies. It is about the money. The most he will get from Real is roughly what we are offering and it won't involve upheaval for his family to stay here (Coleen has a disabled sister, I believe who she wants to stay close to).

All roads, unfortunately, point to City.

It would have been a case of appealing to Rooney's sense of loyalty to expect him to stay here but as we all know, loyalty is not Rooney's strongest card.

Looks like he will be going and City will be the proud owner of the broken goods. I just hope we can get a decent wedge off them for him - something which, for their own reasons, City won't be too willing to hand over to us.

Rooney's destination rests largely with what he wants at this stage, I'm afraid.

Can he stay now though? I don't think he can, and I think he knew that the moment he started this whole game which is why I feel there is something fishy going on...

No player, a couple of weeks into the new season, severs his ties with everyone at the club, without even looking at a new contract.

Rooney is hard faced remember. Will he care what the fans think, or if Fergie plays him and he is booed? Would you be surprised if he gave the finger to the Stretford End?

I thought Rooney was, as daft as it sounds, United through and through. An English lad who had his feet firmly on the ground. A player who understood about being a legend over being a nobody.

The vast majority of us thought the exact same thing.

Blimey, people will seriously discuss anything in here. It was tongue in cheek.

An announcement at 10am.

Okay, so I've gone to uni now. I'm going to get back home just before 10am british time.

Basically by the time I get home Rooney could no longer be a United player and could easily be a City player.

Wierd week

Don't hold your breath.

I'm pretty sure Ferguson said he has a meeting with Gill who is talking to the owners tonight so they can decide what the next step is at 10am... not an anouncement at 10am.

We may or may not make an announcement at some point tomorrow.

I tend to agree with the general opinion that he'd have to live as a virtual hermit if he went to City, him and Colleen couped up in the security laden mansion all of the time because going out will only lead to trouble.

Chelsea may end up as the compromise and I wouldn't be surprised if Terry and Cole have already been in his ear, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he gives Real a try to play alongside Ronaldo again.

That's when Fergie meets with Gill to discuss it, isn't it? Wouldn't be expecting an announcement then, anyway.

It is curious to think how it can be "put to bed" tomorrow. Bizarre state of affairs to be hoping to sell Rooney to Real, but that's where I am right now.
