MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

You can do the deal, it wont be offical until Jan 1st
it will be official
the player cannot be registered till the window opens

we signed hernandez outside the transfer window
we sold ronaldo outside the transfer window (wasnt it june?)

He'll be out in Jan.And they might even come out with where he's going. That would put the matter to bed.

Wasn't aware we could accept offers outside of the transfer window.

You can accept offers. Its just the player cannot register for the new club until the window.

But I highly doubt City etc have made formal offers yet. Why rush it? Make United a little more desperate to remove the cancer from the squad by waiting.

Is an official statement from Fergie due anytime soon, concerning his chat with Gill ?

Whats happening people ?

SAF then recounted a story from United's last period of relative decline after 2004, which involved Rooney himself, and included the departures of star names Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"A player said to me Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were not good enough and he wasn't prepared to wait," said Ferguson.

"That is the problem with potential. People don't identify potential. We are very good at it. I have identified it all my life. I know potential. I know where it can be developed and how to develop it. I have faith in it.

"That is what this club is about. When you see Manchester United at the moment, with 14 players under 22, you don't see the Manchester United for years ahead.

"In terms of the future of Manchester United, there is a lot of things in my favour.

"If I told you how many agents phoned me in a week, saying a player would love to play for us, and I am not just talking about run-of-the-mill players, it would amaze you.

"We still have that fantastic romance, and respect from everyone."

Loved the passage from SAF last night.

Having lived with this for a few days now, Im quickly coming to the following conclusions:

1. Rooney is having a personal crisis. Its just not possible for human being to endure the amount of negative critical attention that he has been getting since just before the world cup (albeit much of it of his own doing because of his character flaws and disgusting personal behaviour). Im convinced that he is in meltdown right now and so his actions and behaviours are completely irrational. Its probably abit like what some women endure just after giving birth - the hormones go all haywire and they change and go nuts.

2. That being said, we are now seeing the true shades of his character, his 'dark' side if you like and its thoroughly unpleasant. When the hooker story first came out, countless posters relentlessly debated that 'they could not care less about his 'off field' antics, he was a footballer and they could only judge him on footballing merits. That was a very naive view ... people are holistic and entire. You can't separate the man from his profession, not with people like Rooney who have to express their very essence as a human being to be successful. Cantona, Keane and Ronaldo were very similar. What Rooney is manifesting right now is that is a unseemly cnut and Im not sure I want people like that at the club that I support.

3. What pisses me off most about his contrived statement is that as one of our best paid players, its HIS JOB to improve the team and ensure it stays at the standards that he thinks we are supposedly heading towards. Its his job to set the standards for the new young players, to inspire and mentor them just as he was mentored by the likes of Keane and Rio and Giggs. That what happens when you mature a little and get older. What else is he being paid such vast amounts of money for?

4. I have never ever doubted SAF and yet again, we have all seen these past 48 hours why you never should. He is Manchester United right now, its his values and character that defines the club of which we are all so proud to support. With him around, no matter what we achieve in the future, I will remain proud of this club.

5. We should sell him asap and move forwards. We have done it before and we will do so again. Im over him already ... it didn't take long. As President Jed Bartlett would say "Whats next'?

"If I told you how many agents phoned me in a week, saying a player would love to play for us, and I am not just talking about run-of-the-mill players, it would amaze you.

This leaves me dribbling from the eye.

For those who were criticizing Keano yesterday or day before yesterday
Roy Keane today on Rooney: "I had chances to leave, but I was at #mufc for 12 years, and I loved every minute of every day."

philmcnulty Man utd statement on Rooney on the way. Presumably
formalising his now inevitable depature. But what happens between now and January?

I think Roy thought Rooney was leaving to save his marriage. And that's a fair argument.

But he's not.

Most likely: Rooney to be sold, will be played until January, no further comments

Why would we play him though? That's what I don't get at all. He's now nothing more than a dressing-room cancer after the contempt he's shown for his team-mates and club, that alone means he's better off away from the player's who actually want to be here and play for the club.

The last thing we need is this soap opera bubbling away, cut him off, and let the rest of the squad to focus on the football and prepare for each game without distraction, I say.

I can kind of understand Keane getting pissed off and trying to distance himself from us at times, every time i see him on SSN he's not been talking about Ipswich or Sunderland he's been talking about Man United.

I wonder if the reporters who turn up to interview him are all the lot that Fergie banned.

I actually really hope he's on the bench for the Spurs game. Not playing, but there, so when his name's read out he understands we haven't bought Stretford's hogwash.

Plus we'd all be pissed and riled up from the Glazer march....no one would be in a remotely charitable mood.

Fergie said that in an interview yesterday - thats why
