MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Well, some people are full of shit and hypocrites on top of that. Nobody who praises Wayne Rooney has the right to judge Terry, Cole, Drogba or even Tevez. Rooney made them look like saints and instead of showing some dignity some fans are already hailing him like he's Jesus. Which is like a slap in the face of players like Fletcher or O'Shea, who never throw tantrums, are loyal, love the club and are respectful to the fans.

This is pretty much my position, I've said plenty of times that Terry is a prat and deserved what came to him following his affair - footballers behaviour transcends club allegiances though Rooney has taken it to a new level over the last week.

I have a feeling the assurances Rooney was seeking is that Sir Alex would be there through the length of his next contract. I believe David Gill could not give him such an assurance, so Rooney wouldn't sign the new contract.
What could have happened now is that Sir Alex has told him that he will be there for atleast another couple of years, and Rooney is given an escape clause to leave once he retires, that way both win as United will sitll be able to command a large fee for him as he will sitll be under contract for another 3 years.

Any thoughts?

This is a good point, which would be reassuring for the fans as well to have the great man around for a couple more seasons

Not a bad theory.

I am not going to keep arguing with you all. The quote you posted puts an end to my thoughts on the matter at this moment in time. I am not trying to prove anything, just giving my opinion. Lance and Dan feel idiots and rightly so. They have been transformed into the press' bitches over the last few days.

Another case of baseless statements.

The only thing I have ever said on the Rooney matter is that it was my guess he wanted to move because either he felt the club lacked ambition or he simply wanted more money. I didn't judge him one way or another. I said nothing after the day when Ferguson declared that Rooney wanted to leave.

What I object to and why I mentioned 2 groups is the labelling by the self righteous fans of an apparent group of principle-less fans without actually having any proof that any particular poster has done a massive u-turn.

Rooney was never realistically running for these awards knowing only a world cup winner would be crowned.Only people cut from the real world thought so.

If you want forget the seasons in which Ronaldo and Messi won their respective awards, they still showed they had more than one good season in them. They never go through these long goal droughts after an injury, suspension or whatever.

You're a bit stupid to think that just because Rooney is 24 and at his current level that at 28 he can only improve and become better.Footballers peak differently and we're not psychics to predict the future. We can only debate for certainty about the current real facts. The facts tell you that Rooney is not even close to be among the top 6-7 in the world.

Well no-one expected Rooney to bomb in the world cup and who is to say he would have had he not received that ankle injury?

I don't want to forget any good season any player has, but it seemed to me that was what you suggest about Rooney when I reminded you of it, I think this part of this discussion has evidently been misconstrued or understood at some point.

If I'm stupid to assume a player will be better at their peak in terms of physical age then yes I'm stupid. Form is temporary, class is permanent. What he's done is undoubtedly wrong but let's not equate twatishness to his ability as a player.

BenHibbs Rooney: "Once it came out it looked like there was nowhere
to go & that that was it. But SAF made it clear the door was still open that's when I spoke to my agent and said 'let's go and speak to them and try and resolve it"

Rooney: "The manager is not the only reason I stayed, but his experience, passion and will to win were an important factor."

It could well be United signs a deal till 2015, so that his transfer value doesn't dimnish. It could all be a temporary agreement before he fecks off.

Anyway, score a lot of goals Rooney. Then maybe, just maybe I may cheer for you.

So Rooney signed the deal because he'd fecked himself over?

In interview with MUTV, Rooney said he held talks with the Glazers over the club's future transfer plans

Who is he to hold talks with Glazers ver the club's transfer plans?!

he's not doing himself any favours with comments like that.

Do you what one of the funny things about Rooney is for me - aside from this crazy week - I think his season last year was hugely based on Valencia's arrival at the club. The amount of goals Valencia made for Rooney last year. It will be interesting to see if he gets on any kind of consistent scoring run without Valencia in the team. Lets be honest, last year was his first really consistent run of goals...

So much for "trust in Sir Alex"

Why won't any of you learn, wait and see what happens.

A lot of the people here continuing slagging him off without keeping an open mind are just stubborn as you now look rather foolish.

Rooney has hurt EVERY United fan. He has to win us ALL over.

Lets see how it pans out and the ins and outs of this new contract before we start deciding things eh...

It's all part of the Internet era

All views and comments you have ever made on the internet are saved in the forum or in the different boards you visit, many people do not want to change their minds just to not look stupid because a day before they said certain things about Rooney, so if you now say something positive about him you are going to look like a fool and will lose your credibility as an internet tough guy.

I'm disappointed by the comments of Rooney in the past few days but I think that if Ferguson has signed is because he thinks is the best for the team and I'm happy with that, Rooney can be a "cnut" but he's a great player. The love for Rooney will eventually return, this is just football is not like your girlfriend had cheated on you or if your best friend had betrayed you, it's just football.

It's the Ferguson and Rooney mutual backslapping show.

that could get the transfer muppets wet

erm i erm was erm worried erm about erm erm

rofl dudes nervous as shit.

It'll never happen, but I hope his next goal is greeted with silence from the United fans.

He didn't, Man City put in two offers and Chelsea turned them down.

What about his refusal to speak to the public and say to Chelsea "Yeah, i'm staying" for about a month, and then subsequently admit he had 'sleepless nights' considering the offer. Oh, and then he was suddenly rewarded with a fat pay rise. Terry used a different tactic to feck Chelsea over and it clearly worked.

So many people on here insisting he's an utter cnut, we don't need him anyway... what nonsense... I'm not so naive as to not expect some bloody negotiational bullshit every now and again, and I didn't have a pop at him being a cnut... I won't have to make my second U-turn on Rooney in a week in order to get back behind him.

Valuable lesson for a lot of people on here, I hope.

This is getting more and more embarrassing by the minute...

Bloody hell, this is just plain weird... I was just telling people at work that I couldn't care less that he left. I'm still a bit confused as to what to feel. Yes, glad that a player of his calibre is staying, but what do I make of his intentions? Yeah sure, he isn't at the most stable time of his career so his judgement could be a bit off. But claiming that his team-mates aren't good enough to compete at the top level is definitely a bit of a kick in the teeth to them, so how does the Macheda's and Chico's feel about having him in his team? and what effect will it have on the team?

I'm really looking forward to his explanation to the fans, cos I don't know what changed since claiming that he wants to be here for life to saying few days ago that he wanted to leave.. The winning trophies bit is a bit rubbish imo. Our position hasn't really changed since the end of last season and he can't base this year's performance for the 7-8 games that we've played so far.

bollocks, he's still a cnut.

Rooney: "The manager is not the only reason I stayed, but his experience, passion and will to win were an important factor."

A £90k a week payrise and the adulation of half the people on Redcafe no doubt swung it for him
