Stoke City vs. Manchester United

Hope we beat em because of last game of last season. Otherwise we really need the 3 points at the moment, 8 points of Chelsea isn't good.

Really? when was this? last i heard Sir Alex said he suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury against WBA and would probably have to sit it out a little longer than he did last time which means roughly a month id guess.

Id be shocked and equally delighted to see Giggsy tomorrow, our left hand side looks pretty wank with both he and Valencia injured. (yes i know Valencia doesn't play left wing, just to confirm my point is if he were not injured we could play Nani down the left with Giggs out if he were fit.

Yeah, he's played there before and not done too bad. Don't really see another option, can't see Obertan or Bebe starting, so who else is there?

Edit: Shit, forgot about Park

Hmmm, i'm in a dilemma now.

mutv is hardly reliable tho ...

------------------------Van Der Sar-------------------

--O Shea----------Rio------------Vidic----------Evra--

--Nani------------Scholes----Fletcher-------Anderson--

-------------------Berbatov---Owen--------------------

Prediction:0-2 Berbs2

Owen isn't ready yet, SAF confirmed this the other day.

Giggs was said to be out for 3-4 weeks after the WBA game and I doubt SAF will bring him back so soon seeing as that's what he did with the WBA game basically and it didn't go well at all.

Our wing choices are Nani + one of Obertan, Park, Bebe or Anderson.

Probably Park, which will make you all cry and I will laugh.

I need to get a train like 2 minutes after full time, so I'm going to have to watch this game in Picadilly. Anyone know any pubs around there which'll show the game. Preferable one where you can have a meal?

and i agree with r nick would be nice to see obertan given a chance to flex his muscles

My thinking was that we should stick with the back four that achieved our only away clean sheet so far at Sunderland.

Highly unlikely given that O'Shea was at LB and Evra's performance the other night.

I suspect Fergie will play it safe and switch O'Shea to RB.

Rafael is way better than O'shea imo but for this match I would prefer O'Shea playing. Their going to bombard us with crosses and long throws and for that reason alone we'll need to play O'Shea.

Back to Rafael from our next game though.

Fair point I suppose, would still prefer to see Rafa though if only because he makes our wing-play on the right side much more fluent.

True that and I've always been part of the "pro Rafael nah O'Shea" brigade but this game we'll really need O'Shea to deal with their style of play.

We need O'Shea for his height and his superior defensive ability.

Disagree with that, we are Manchester United, why on earth should we change to suit the opposition?

Fair enough if we were playing Madrid, Barca, Inter, Chelsea, but to clarify... we are talking about Stoke City?

Because he'll be bombarded with balls in the air and targeted all game with physical play and O'Shea is far more likely to cope with that than he is.

Thats complacency mate. You always have to chop and change to cope with the opposition threats. Unless you're 'arry, in which case, you dont need no damn tactics.

Height ok, but there is no such thing as OShea's superior defensive ability compared to Rafael's imo

Exactly. His superior aerial ability. Nothing else. Defensively Rafael has shown himself to be more than capable over the last few weeks. If Rafael was 6 feet I would have backed him to start :D

Correct, Not only has he shown he's a very competent tackler, Rafael is much faster so when we are pressing high up the pitch we have the safety net of knowing that unless it's Theo Walcott breaking on us he'll get back into a goal-side position.

Utd XI: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Fletcher, Scholes; Nani, Berbatov, Hernandez

Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Smalling, Carrick, Obertan, Macheda, Gibson.

 at the Rafael vs O'Shea debate. I think we can all agree that nobody wanted Neville :nervous: And O'Shea in midfield too :nervous:
