World Cup 2018 & 2022 bids

I have no problem with either of the winning bids - both were very strong bids.

Sounds like England came last, the only reason can be that we were downgraded due to the harmful actions of our media - they are the ones to blame here.

Blatter's crusade for a nobel peace prize might actually be the ambition for the deluded lapdogs at FIFA.

It's obvious that FIFA want to massage their own ego by creating "legacies" and all that crap rather than just voting for the best bid that'd put on the best show.

TBF to blatter im ok with spreading the game and bringing the world cup to other venues and as most on here have said they can see Russia to a point. Obviously we all (most) wanted England to win the bid.

Qatar is a whole different story. There is no justification for that selection.

LOL!

Labour are calling for an inquiry into how English Football is run.

Erm, why??

I was in Russia last year, Moscow. There was not an English language sign in sight anywhere, whether it was the tourist areas such as Red Square or on the train lines or underground. Russia has a lot of work to do if it expects tens of thousands of football fans to descend upon their country without hassle.

It was fecking Cities fault. They mentioned the City of Manchester Stadium at which point several high profile people spewed vomit down their Armani suit's saying "feck me is that a council house." then they showed the great Emirates and then....the majestic Stadium of Light!

The Stadium of Light! That famous home of the mightiest team in all the land.

Oh wait.

fecking City.

And besides, Fifa have already turned international football into a joke by this point. By 2018 I reckon they'll have destroyed what little credibility it has left and the World Cup wont be much of an event anyway. Which is a huge shame but that's the way Fifa roll under Blatter and co.

England is a small country so travel between venues isn't too much of a problem.
England is a cosmopolitan country, so fans of most competing nations will already be there.
England has a massive football fanbase, so most of the games would sell the majority of their ticket allocation.

No wonder we came fourth!

Russia is cold and miserable and doesn't have anywhere close the facilities we have plus they have a huge open racism issue, and yet somehow we not only get beaten by them but so do Spain and Portugal who also have much better conditions and stadia, what a fecking load of arse.

As for Qatar, that is beyond laughable, most teams should pull out of that one in advance due to safety issue but I guess they have a decade to sort their shit out and birth some extra population to fill their stadiums.

I reckon we should put our money where our secessionary mouths are, if Qatar are allowed to host a world cup then the Republic of Mancunia should go for 2030. We've already got better stadiums and a bigger population.

If they build 12 stadiums of around 60,000 capacity, they could seat half of their entire population. :D

Seriously, WTF are they going to do with them afterwards?

Plus, that area of the world has a recent history of bringing in people from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, etc, for work, then taking away their passports and making them work for free, living in slums.

Basically, FIFA just made a bunch of people slaves.

England clearly shouldn't have finished last. So, clearly there were other forces at work.

I'm not denying or addressing that, however, the point the other guy made was stupid, beyond stupid.

Invented or not, we should still have to bid like everyone else, after that it's a different matter. His point was that because it's our game, we should have the right whenever we want.

Russia just about makes sense (compared to S Africa anyway).

Qatar is the most stupid decison made by an organization famous for making stupid decisions.

Keep that tedious Tory propaganda out of here...

Tory propaganda? It isn't the conservatives who are calling for an inquiry into how the FA is run moments after losing a world cup bid.

not knowing the state of the world in 2022 it could actually happen that teams dont travel to qatar. I hope not but unless all the stadia are domes with air conditioning we are going to see some pretty wretched football.

Makes sense

Russia offered 6ft blondes as part of their package and Qatar offered to pay for the blondes.

Backhanders were involved - I await the wikileak..

Russia in the summertime is meant to be a lot nicer weather wise than the UK.

Shocking

Blatter has been a cnut for ages though, it is no secret he dislikes how the Premier League has become the best on the planet.

It wouldn't surprise me if clubs didn't want their players in a world cup in such condition.

UK should bid.

England, Ireland, Wales and let the scotts in as well.

How could they say no to that?

There wasn't only 22 committee members voting this afternoon for nothing you know. Do we blame the media for the corruption?

No surprise they chose Qatar.

FIFA wants some A-rab money!!

Logically that's right, Arab dollars beg to differ though...On that note, I wonder how much SAF and Zidane trousered in backing Qatar AKA booze-free, bird-free, fun-free, terror-bullseye territory?

Australia should have walked 2022.

Moscow's summers are warmer than England's. I agree that England has better stadia and facilities, but Russia's will be far from a concern, especially if they can implement the high speed rail network that is being talked about. I think you are underestimating their ability to host a good World Cup.

Although you are right in saying that racism is a big issue.

Money talks, but one'd have thought the highest GDP in the world would have made a difference for the US.

Its not about the money the World Cup actually makes, then the US and European countries would be obvious takes. But its how much of that money can find its way into the pockets of the Exec Committee members and Blatter. When you're talking about places like England, US and Germany, not much. Those are countries that do things by the book. Places like Russia and Qatar on the other hand, a number of individuals profit a lot, and are prepared to pay a price right now, to get those profits over the following years.

Its the same with the Brazil Cup in 2014. Ricardo Teixeira, our FA President, stands to personnally add many more millions to the ones he already has (and he's only ever been the head of FA, not previously wealthy), so he has no issue with passing that on to Blatter and others to ensure it gets done here.

Talksport are a disgrace...Adrian Durham is implicity accusing oil barons of bribing FIFA and saying Arshavin should be booed because he's happy to take Arsenal fans money every week, then he goes and does that to us.

Well as you know I dont agree with you!

The Qatari bid is incredible when you look at the detail - whether they can actually deliver on their promises is another matter.
