No doubt some key players will be rested with arsenal and chelsea match in mind, but there is still top spot to be secure.....

Kuszczak

Brown
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Scholes
Park

Rooney
Berbatov

SUBS: van der Sar, Smalling, Rafael, Anderson, Fletcher, Giggs, Hernandez.

Getting Rio, Nani and Rooney off when the game is (hopefully) won after 60/70 minutes.

Why? They were rested against West Ham. If we rest them again for this one it'll be 16 days since they've played a game by the time of the Arsenal match. Not a great way of building on the momentum of the Blackburn game.

-----------VDS---------------

Rafael----Rio------Vidic-----Evra

Nani---Carrick---Anderson---Park

-------Rooney---Berbatov-------

Subs
PIG
Smalling
Fabio
Scholes
Giggs
Macheda
Hernandez

Hopefully Scholes and Giggs get a half hour, and i'd give Smalling another run out too. I'd leave O'Shea, Evans and Fletcher out of the squad entirely. None are playing well enough and it could serve as punishment for Tuesday night i guess.

We don't need to. We have almost six days before this game (Tuesday) and the next game against Arsenal (Monday). So I m guessing pretty much everyone is going to play bar Scholes.

that'll do me although I would like to see Giggs 9at Park's expense??) get plenty of minutes to bring him back to form - he was a bit off the other night

No team in the history of UCL has ever played the group stage without concedind a goal.. We have a good chance of doing that on tue.

Valecia is playing Real Madrid on saturday night and ´cause we have the weekend off we should come out banging in the game.. Nani, Obertan on the wings and Anderson/Scholesy from the middle.. 3,4-0

Team should be.....

GK: VDS

RB: Rafael
CB: Smalling
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Scholes
LM: Giggs

CF: Rooney
CF: Hernandez

subs: PIG, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Fletcher, Park, Berbatov, Macheda

2-0 Rooney & Hernandez

Rafael
Ferdinand
Smalling

Nani
Carrick
Anderson
Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov

This'll be a strong side surely? There's getting a rest before a big game (Arsenal) and there's being undercooked - it'll have been over two weeks since some of the big hitters will have played...

Hopefully we give our kids a chance to redeem themselves and play the guys who need the minutes and who, injuries permitting, will be in the reckoning for the Arsenal-Chelsea double-header:

PIG

Rafa-Smalling-Evans-Fabio

Park-Scholes-Carrick-Obertan

Rooney-Chicharito

Id leave Rio out and play Smalling alongside Vidic, i think its another good opportunity to give smalling more game time and experiance plus an added bonus to allow Rio to rest before the big xmas period, plus id leave Nani on the bench, hes played pretty much every game for us this season so use the postponement and this game as a breather ahead of the big ones, last thing we need is to lose him in a relatively meaningless fixture ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea.

I'd field a bit weak team, I'm sure SAF will do.

Can't see why some people think it is acceptable to sacrifice this game...

We have come off the back of a loss, the first for ages, we have big games coming up, but several days away, we need to make sure the big hitters are on form and ready & raring to go.

Get a good win and push the squad confidence back where it should be.

We want to top the group & send a message that we are ready to face whatever Barca & Real have to throw at us, not go down to a meek draw or worse a loss & not top the group.

C'mon United!!!

Is Ever Banega back for them yet? Good player made for the prem imo, like to see how he does against us.

THEY DON'T NEED A REST for feck sake. They have been resting for almost a week and a half. If they don't play on Tuesday then, they would have not played for more than two weeks when they step out onto the pitch on Monday. They have plenty of time to rest between Tuesday night and Monday evening. You give them a run and then take them out around the hour mark. Plus there is that record of six clean sheets in group stages we are going after. It could be another feather in the hat for Sir Alex and Man Utd.

I agree about not resting players, going over 2 weeks between games is too long. There's resting players then there's being a spastic about things. Go full strength, let the momentum carry us through December.

I want to see Rafael go up against Mata on the right hand side. That would be an intriguing battle and it would be a good challenge for both of them, especially Rafael.

I don't think it's so much of an issue giving players a rest as it is trying some of the younger ones in a European competition. I really hope Rooney gets a game though.

26 players trained today, though Evra and Scholes were away from the main group. J.Evans, Brown, Hargreaves absentees #mufc

I agree with elvis costello, it doesn't make sense to rest players against Valencia for the Arsenal game, they've had a rest at the weekend & they'll have more than enough time to recover for the weekend, resting our best players could quite possibly backfire, we need them to be as sharp as feck & playing against Valencia is the only way to have them that way, beating Valencia & i'm sure we will, will do them the power of good confidence wise as well.

I'd field a bit weak team,

We'll be at full strength for this. The first team haven't played for over a week and there's 6 days between this and the Arsenal game. Not to mention the fact that it's very important we finish top of the group. Fergie has made that mistake before, he won't do it again.

I'm 100% certain the team will be:

VDS
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Nani Carrick Scholes Park
Rooney Berbatov

If/once we get into a good position we can think about protecting players for the upcoming games.

------------------------Kuzczak------------------

Playing Kuszczak means we won't be first team ever without any conceded goal after group stage.

Please, let Edwin play.

Agree with these, we need to play a full strength team for this game. We need to win the group and we don't want to go into the Arsenal game with our players having not played in two weeks.

Seconded, for those exact reasons.

Potential opponents if we win or draw against Valencia (making some guesses here): Rafa's Inter, Lyon, Kobenhavn, Roma, OM, Milan.
Potential opponents if we lose to Valencia: Schalke, Barca, Bayern, Real, Shakhtar.

And it's basically the same deal for Valencia, except replace the Spanish teams with Chelsea and Tottenham. This will be a strong team, but it'll be a conservative one.
