Anderson

That's 3 games in a row where he's been very good. Brilliant against Rovers, absolutely fantastic today as well. If only he and Fletcher could learn how to play together now.

I'd really like to see how a fletcher/anderson partnership would come off. With both on top form, they could really do some damage against top teams since they are both great ball winners. With this new creativity from Anderson, they would be a dangerous and energetic duo.

Three games in a row he's been very good. Will be interesting to see if he'll start against Arsenal.

Rooney was much better than Anderson tonight.
Please, there must be a Rooney praising thread here somewhere. Why post this in Anderson thread?

Anderson needs to be more intelligent in terms of managing himself through a game. He hit the usual 70 minute wall today, after which point, his performance dipped off quite drastically.

He should be a bit more economical in the use of his energy in the early parts of matches.

I think he managed that very well in the last 2 games. I was extremely surprised to see him last the 90 in his last 2 games. Today was sort of understandable. The amount of work he did today was unbelievable.

The pace of the Blackburn game was training ground stuff though.

This was a proper test, and as usual he went down after 70 minutes.

Don't want to dismiss his performance though - I thought he was superb tonight. But we need him to be able to play for the duration of the game.

After that long of a layoff, you have to imagine he's still getting back to fitness. He did a lot of running today. It's understandable he got tired.

Anderson and Rooney have been huge pluses for us over the last couple of games. Rooney's looking sharp and Anderson's starting to look like a player - would like to him play against better opposition but that's no fault of his own.

Some posters on here have bigger agendas than Simon Cowell.. ran the game, got a goal - feck feck feck.. and no, can't admit to that.. so instead point to the lads belly instead. He's just got a very fulsome figure.

Yeah but, in fairness, it's a continual issue with Ando.

Not a criticism, just an observation. Actually, it is a criticism, he needs to get fitter. The run of games will help, of course.

UEFA keeps stats of how many kilometres players run during a match and I wouldn't be surprised if Anderson was in the top 3 today.

Yeah, that's fine Top. I'm not disputing his contribution for 70 minutes. But a couple of times late on, he got caught on the ball and he was running on empty. We need him to be able to complete games at the same level.

Fletcher probably regularly finishes in those Top 3 runner statistics - he does it for 90 minutes though.

Anderson never gives his midfield partners or defenders an option for a short pass.
Why is this?

Running with the ball and making Hollywood passes looks nice but he fails to do some very basic midfield work. His stamina is also very poor.
His second goal in 4 years does not really make up for this.

Hypothetically. If Anderson runs 10 km in a match but gets tired after 70 minutes, while Fletch runs 10 km in a match and doesn't get tired until the 90th minute.

Then surely we're talking about Anderson learning to manage his runs during a match rather than him lacking fitness.

That Fat Bastard has got some real energy now, it must be the blubber he has stored up. Even at the death he was still moving pretty well.

Anderson, when running at defenders makes us so much more dangerous, one footed he might be, but he shields the ball so well, defenders can't touch it.

Just stop shooting.

This is like Nani V2.0 since he came back from injury.

In fairness, you could have waited for a poor performance to produce such a critique.

Also, when he made himself available for a couple of lovely one twos that completely opened the game up for us - was that not making himself available for the short ball?

Yep - and that's exactly what I said in my first post about 30 minutes ago.

He needs to learn to manage himself through matches a little better. He goes off at a hell of a pace early on and expends a fair bit of energy through his natural exuberance.

Are you having a laugh?

He's over the past 3 games been one of our top performers and is really driving the team forward at times and you're not happy?

I'll tell you what - you keep on looking for flaws in his game and i like the majority of fans will enjoy seeing a potential great really come of age.

Some people are happier to look for negatives than pay a player a compliment.

I could have sworn your post originally said something like "It's not a criticism... Well yes, it is a criticism, he needs to get fitter."

That might have been someone else in another thread, I suppose.

For fecks sake, he doesnt need to 'make up' for anything.

He didn't lack any basic midfield work today. Was our best player.

By that logic, a player can either be gifted or a runner.

Why can't he do both?

There was no logic involved, somebody bigged up Fletch for being able to run like mad for 90 mins and I thought I'd get the point over that running for 90 mins isn't the be all and end all. 70 mins of quality of 90 mins of ok?

No, I did say that. But I also said he needs to manage himself through games better.

Sorry, it does seem contradictory. He's got two choices - either manage himself earlier on in games so he can complete 90 minutes, or get working on his stamina so that he can continue to charge around early on in games and still complete the 90.

Either way, the message is the same - he needs to complete the 90.

But Fletcher brings quality to the table as well.

And 70 minutes of quality, followed by a mistake because you're fecking knackered, is no good to anyone.

No United player should ever rest on their laurels. He's played well tonight and he deserves his plaudits - I thought he was the stand out player for us.

But it HAS to be noted that stamina is still an issue with him...

You should post more often in the footie forums Jgray, don't get put off

Sorry have to add something further - just seen your man of the match top 3 post.

You're either on a wind up or have an agenda, seriously.

To be honest, I thought he looked a bit overweight too. Stamina called into question again

But, he was excellent for 70 minutes. The best player on the park, sorry, pitch, because having that would flatten poor little park!

glad to see him score, would like to see him push on from here, build his stamina up and fulfill his potential

Did you watch him play today? Off all todays to criticize him you've chosen the worst. Our only midfielder in ANY sort of form right now.

I thought it was quite amusing. Everyone has Anderson as number 1, then comes Johnboy, desperately looking for 3 other players to mention.
