Open Letter to Torres said:
As the sad news of your decision to hand in a transfer request sinks in, I would like it to be known that I have no ill-feeling towards you as a person.

I was 11 years old in 1977 when my childhood idol arrived at Liverpool FC. I marvelled at watching Kenny play for most of my teens and beyond and those memories are gold to me. For the first time since then I thought I'd 'connected' with a similar player and more significantly - person. A real Liverpool icon, a legend in the making.

It will therefore come as no surprise to you how disappointed I am to learn of your desire to leave us. I can accept that you have been mis-led over these last couple of years and had broken promises made to you. I can also accept that you feel the need to play Champions League football on a regular basis, especially as all your international team mates are doing this.

What I AM surprised about is that you don't seem to have the trust in Kenny Dalglish to lead us back there ourselves. With good new owners who are willing to back him, as NESV have shown today with the signing of luis Suarez, I am sure that we will be back to where we should be very soon. Everyone at LFC has faith in Kenny. I'm surprised by you of all people for not showing that same faith.

Whatever happens, I think it's important for you to know that the majority of real Liverpool fans are thankful for what you have given to this club that we love. Please try to ignore the disrespectful and rude comments made by some on here. I'm sure it's all born out of frustration and sadness.

I'm sure you'll have great times in your future career but none will compare to what you had here, even if you win endless trophies elsewhere.

There may be of course many other private reasons for you wanting to leave LFC that haven't been made public and I respect that.

I refuse to write this as an obituary-style piece, because for all we know, you could still be wearing a Liverpool shirt when I take my seat at Anfield next Wednesday. But I feel very sad at the moment that a player I held up as high as the King himself, may be about to leave this famous club.

Yes, Fernando. How dare you not trust the King who hasn't managed for a decade.:lol:

Can't believe some of them are calling him a cnut, he stayed loyal with them all these years winning feck all, he has every right to ask for a transfer. Although handing in a transfer request just three days before the window ends is bad timing.

seems reasonable enough. If Torres stays, it seems unlikely that he'll be back playing Champions League football before he is close to 28 (if my maths are correct:nervous:) and even then liverpool would have to improve a lot to make top 4. Top level European football is not in Liverpool's forseeable future and that is where players of Torres' (and Gerrard's) stature should be playing.

Besides even if he has shown affection for Liverpool, he's always been an Atleti boy, noone can pretend otherwise.

I really don't understand the kind of people that are on RAWK, I really don't. It's like they sign a contract saying that every third post has to be flowery, over the top hyberpole nonsense. I can appreciate that they support their team, but some of the posts are just too far gone that it genuinely makes me wonder whether they're all on a wind-up.

Imagine someone posting some of those mega posts/threads on RedCafe, about how these are our heroes, our gods, our whatever, possibly with some kind of poem and/or Gladiator quote at the end. They would be laughed off.

Someone should give that a go, actually..

I wonder how they would cope with a swap deal for Rooney. We get their beloved ladyboy & they get the fat shit blue cnut they've always hated probably more than any other player.

I'd love to see it happen if just to see the reactions on RAWK & to a lesser extent on here. There's sense in it for both clubs too I reckon.

Torres on Liverpool FC

"The club is a symbol of a city which fought to stay alive. Everyone is proud of the team and players want to come here because they know that Liverpool is a truly great club.

"Anfield is the most English of grounds – people live and breathe football there – and with just 45,000 fans inside, that roar they give makes you think you have wings on your feet.

"When I came to Liverpool to sign for the club, I spent two days in an apartment that I only left to take some tests. There were just books, DVDs, everything you could think of about the club. Some people from the club came to speak to me and answer my questions. It was incredible."

The information he gleaned from the books and DVDs must have been ugly.

Exactly. We really have no right to sneer at this.

I do! I can laugh at them in the same way that I laughed at the muppets on here. This was my take on the Rooney situation back then...

Well, firstly, I accept the situation in modern football where clubs have certain power over players and players have certain power over clubs. Beckham for example is on record saying that he never wanted to leave, but the club sold him as it was seen to be in the interests of the club to do so. There are many examples of where players have done the opposite, Ronaldo for one.

At the end of the day IMO, these people are employees, and playing football is their job, so in the modern age, with so much money sloshing around, nobody should expect loyalty from a player, and a player should not expect loyalty from the club, and supporters should accept that. Where I can understand fan bitterness and upset is where a player runs down his contract and either devalue himself or even go for free - read Sol Campbell and Micheal Owen. If a fan gives loyalty to a player, then the player can at least provide loyalty to them in ensuring that his transfer fee will be as high as possible.

So, in my view, he's only a player, it doesn't upset me one jot if he wants to leave, that's his prerogative to do with his life what he sees fit, however, I would like him to sign a new contract and then allow the club to sell him with the strongest hand possible. In the mean time, I expect him to continue to give his all for the club on the pitch to give the fans back what they have given to him.

Why does he want to do this? Your guess is as good as mine - money, a change, a new challenge, a bust up with someone, drama queen like dummy chucking, blind stubbornness, frustration with where he sees the club is going, his wife wanting whatever. It could be anything, but it will all come out in the wash eventually.

Rather different to some of the shit going on over at RAWK.

Are you actually saying that one quality signing is enough to turn this club into a giant force on the pitch

there are several areas in which we are lacking and need major investment which will ensure quality and then we need BACK-UPS too

whom are we kidding we are way behind becoming a major force once again

dont you remember st.g saying he needs a QUICK FIX rather going for nesv five to six years arsenal model

its all a stunt to make nesv go for heavy investment
mark my word you all read it first her that he is going to be a part of lfc for a long time to come

and thinking about this mind game my level of respect for nando has increased to hishest esteem for he has surely risked his name ,repuation, goodwill both on and off the pitch

i believe in my hero

EITHER YOU DIE A HERO OR YOU LIVE LING ENOUGH TO SEE YOURSELF BECOME A VILLAIN

NANDO is THE DARK KNIGHT

and i am the one who solve the mystery

Won nothing for us, no respect. feck him.

Torres is definitely the better player and by a mile.

but Luis was a major part of a team that actually won trophies.

Torres wasn't.

When we look back at it in 10 years, Luis is more of a legend despite being an inferior player

By that amazing logic, we should say that Wes Brown was more of a legend than RvN because he was an integral part of a team who won a double.

Really would be brilliant if he left now, but he won't go until the summer. Just not enough time left before the transfer window shuts. Wonder why he didn't go public even earlier(obviously the wheels were set in motion much earlier but still).

I would imagine because he thought they weren't taking him seriously, especially after they rejected the Chelsea bid.

I've thought all along he would push for a move in January and would have pushed for one last summer if he hadn't been injured.

Our mate Andy@Allerton has spoken

Torres leaving and potentially Pepe leaving to play for Manchester United is part of the legacy and part of the outcome of getting rid of Rafa Benitez. These lads thought he was a top manager. Him being here was why they were here. Those that campaigned long and hard to get rid of Rafa brought Torres leaving on themselves. Don't kid yourself you didn't and don't moan about it now. This is a fact. It is an obvious fact and it was always going to happen. It was your fault Hodgson came in. It was your fault Purslow got so much power. It was your fault that the ex-Yanks fecked us over so badly for so long. While you joined in Martin Tyler's Former Monkey and the hairy-handed halfwit and the other gimps at Sly blaming Rafa for everything - they shagged the club.

Just hope you are delighted with your outstanding work of wrecking our club.

Thanks a lot.

I like the fact he's stayed for Hodgson's name, they've got Dalgliesh in and he's blatantly thought "fecking hell, this club is run terribly"

So I'm guessing his captains armband at At. Madrid actually said "Blue is the color football is the game" instead of "YAWN" ?

Can't believe some of them are calling him a cnut, he stayed loyal with them all these years winning feck all, he has every right to ask for a transfer. Although handing in a transfer request just three days before the window ends is bad timing.

it's the kind of timing that makes you a cnut.

Bitter, much?

Not really. I put all my footballing hero-eggs in the Michael Owen basket. After having firmly believed his assurances that he would surely sign a new contract and then seeing him leave on the cheap just before the transfer window closed, footballers as anything other than career professionals died to me. I am sure he, and Torres, fancy themselves liverpool fans and all but it's never going to stop them from serving themselves first.

My annoyance is with his timing as it leaves us with little time to do anything this window with the money. That is a rather cnutish move. I'd much rather keep him till the summer against his will.

Maybe now all the stalls every 25 yards in Liverpool centre will take down their 'El Nino' posters, scarves, towels etc. His bloody face everywhere like he's their hero.

LFC: Torres is our hero, best ever, best striker in the league, makes Vidic look like an amateur, we love Torres, praise be to Torres.

Torres: I want to leave. Shit club, can't play CL for ages, dodgy management decisions and the PL is too tough for me.

LFC: Torres is a cnut, never did nout for us anyway, sell him. Waste of space.

I'll tell you this: Whatever happens now I will never ever forgive Torres

for ruining my friday evening. I was quite enjoying it and this has put a slight dent in my mood. I might have to get myself a bevvie.

And on a Friday at that. The timing is simply intolerable.

I did warn you in advance about Torres. Suarez was signed to replace Torres. It was so blindingly obvious when a high fee was agreed for Suarez.
