The England international has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League, bagging 11 Premier League goals before being sidelined by a thigh injury.

Carroll's displays in leading the line for the Magpies has attracted interest from a number of rival top-flight teams, with Harry Redknapp keen to bring the powerful forward to White Hart Lane.

The North East club are determined to retain the services of their star man and have rebuffed all offers for his services, with Spurs' latest offer drawing a terse response.

Not for sale

A high-ranking Newcastle official told Sky Sports News: "The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale."

The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as 'paltry in the current climate'.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has always stressed his determination to keep hold of his key players during January as he looks to establish the club back in the top flight.

And with the transfer window due to close at 11pm on Monday, it remains to be seen if Spurs will return with an improved offer.

£23million bid for a guy who is in his first season in the premiership is an absurd amount of money.

Paltry?!

Don't blame Newcastle for wanting to keep one of their own though

The days of Giggs, Nevilles, and Scholes' are likely behind us mate.

Money holds the ultimate power both for the player, and the owners. Loyalty is lost.

Some players will always put career choice and personal life ahead of getting every last penny they can wrangle. Admittedly it seems to be a diminishing group

Yeah 23 mill is a bit high, but I reckon Carroll has big things ahead of him and he'd do brilliantly at Spurs, who are looking for a target man the likes of Carroll. And with this inflated market, you cannot be surprised. An 18 year old Rooney got signed for more...

More expensive than Bent!? He's a good player Carroll, but what the feck?

Football

He's a much better player than Bent in my opinion and whilst I think the price is ridiculous, based on what Bent went for it seems reasonable in this fecked up climate.

He has the ability to be a useful player in europe and on the international stage and not just one who runs through premiership defences.

I've no idea why everyone's taking the fee at face value? Redknapp's never spent that kind of money (right?) and it seems like a typical bollocks article with a 'high ranking official' rather than your usual 'reliable source'.

Why do people keep saying this is his debut season in the Premier League? He's been playing in it on and off since 2006-07. Did no one notice him playing 14 games in 2008/09?

Rooney, was/is 100x the footballer Carrol ever has or will be.

A player is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for him. We paid 29 million for Rio and I doubt any fan here regrets it. A manager will be willing to pay as much for a player if he thinks such a transfer can revitalise a team. Of course people will initially point out the fee, but that will be forgotten if he sets the ground rolling.

Players like Carrol, proper targets up front are considered very valuable in the premier league. To add to that he's one of the top scorers, young and English. I dont think they should go above this bid, but if it had gone through I think he could have lived up to the price tag over the next 5 or 6 seasons. And to be honest since its Spurs, they'd probably have sold him on for a profit anyway

That's a resonable price for a young, talented PL centre forward who will score goals.

Get with the times.

He is a player that looks talented to be fair. I've never seen someone who wins so many headers and he can also hold the ball up well and has a good shot on him. He'd be a much better option than Crouch in my opinion.

On the price you have to put it into perspective, he's 22 and so Spurs would want to keep him for 10-12 season, £2-2.5m a season isn't bad. Compare it to Darren Bent who's 27 next week and probably has 4-5 seasons left in him (£5+m a season), whilst I think Carroll could be a much better player than Bent

According to Ian Dennis of BBC

Liverpool have made a 30Million Bid for Andy Carroll

Rejected

Guardian - and I have to stress thats its the GUARDIAN - are reporting that Liverpool have been told Carroll is not for sale.

Young English strikers with bags of potential cost a fortune. Carroll will be great.
He won't be 30m great - he's not worth anything like that.

If Newcastle don't sell for that price they're crazy. They are effectively 9 points and a game in hand above the drop zone and so they aren't in any real danger of being relegated: they don't need Caroll that badly.

Apparently the bid was only £25m but Newcastle told the press it was £30m.

Perhaps to start a bidding war?

24million for Bent
30million for Carroll
40million for Bale
50million for Torres

The world has gone completely fecking insane!

And just few months ago barca signed that dude David Villa for less than Pool offered for fecking Carroll. How mad is that?

He's worth what anyone is willing to pay for him. With the money Man City have spunked on English players like Lescott and Milner I'd say its about right. No reason fro Newcastle to seel other than a large bid, especially this late in the window when they cant get a replacement.

He has all the attributes to be a top PL striker. He seems confident in his ability, gets goals and most importantly he bullies defences like no other player in the league.

I also reckon you'd see a much poorer Newcastle team without him. Makes a lot of space for other players around him.

He will be good in Europe they will have trouble coping with him.
