Newcastle fleece Liverpool for Carroll

Hold on a sec, is there a catch? You'd have thought no-one would be stupid enough to make a fee contingent on Liverpool winning trophies... but this is Newcastle we're talking about...

Carroll's a Geordie through and through.

Is he ready to take the fans and culture of Liverpool Football Club into his heart and soul? You can't expect to succeed unless you really, really understand what it means to represent that august footballing institution.

Is he ready to summon the Spirit of Shankly?

Well he is known to be a bit violent, so I'm guessing he'd fit well on the merseyside ?

Andy Carroll has left Newcastle's training ground. In a car, before you ask #lfc #nufc

No helicopter for him. And this is the best thing i've heard all day,

RT @James_Dart: By my reckoning, Andy Carroll has fewer career goals (34) than millions about to be lavished upon him #lfc #nufc

Just seen the actual bid from Liverpool for Andy Carroll. It's 35 million based on trophies won and league finish in the next 10 years.

Liverpool expect to pay around 20 quid overall.

I would LOVE it if he turned out to be another Zaki!

Zaki had 11 in 19 games. Carrol has 11 in 20 games...

No condoning this or anything but eh, Rooney had around half the goals of what we paid for him :P

Expect the figure of 20m to be quoted whenever Carroll is mentioned, unlike Anderson/Nani whose overall transfer fees are always quoted by the media whenever they don't perform.

Conspiracy!

This is a bad deal for us solely based on this season because we still have to play Chelsea twice. If Torres goes to them, they will only get stronger and it will be that much harder to beat them. Liverpool are obviously being weakened by Torres leaving and Carroll coming in so that is a good thing for us, I suppose.

This valuation of Andy Carroll is absolutely ridiculous. If Liverpool are willing to pay the amount of money being talked about then they are mad.

There is a reason for that though. We most likely paid every penny in bonuses for Nani and Anderson, doing the double in their first season and representing their countries plenty of times and so on.

Like with Arsenal, Liverpool are very unlikely to ever need to hand over the top figure. Which is why success based payments are a god send for clubs of that level

Right so, that's shut me up.

Defeated by the cold, hard cock of logic yet again.

Simply mad!

RE: Suarez and Carrol, the partnership should actually work quite well. However its going to lack a bit of pace... The pace that Liverpool have grown accustomed to, playing with Torres.

What does this mean for Liverpool's "wings"? To play Meireles and Lucas, they'd already have to use Gerrard on the wing and he doesnt have the mobility he used to. Then add Charlie Adam and who misses out?

Maxi has a little bit of speed and has played quite well on either wing, but Liverpool will continue to sorely need a real winger with speed and overstocked in the middle

£35m for a player outscored in the Championship last season by Peter Whittingham, Nicky Maynard, Gary Hooper, Michael Chopra, Charlie Adam

First-team appearances are also factored into the deal, so we won't have paid the full fee on that basis alone.

Also, how many full caps has Anderson got for Brazil since we signed him? Can't be more than 2 or 3.

Difficult to believe that. Doubt Newcastle are that stupid. I can swallow uptil 33-40% of the upfront money to be add ons. Beyond that is just bad business. Esp when dealing with a mid table team.

He was a quite a regular from when we signed him till last season, 8 caps according to wiki

This just keeps getting better and better

Where are people getting 20Million plus addons bid information, every journalist is so far tweeting the 35 Million bid

More than the fee, I'd be more disappointed if I was a Liverpool fan for signing a player of Carroll's ability.

This is what is meant by 'no value'. I mean, jesus feck, £35m for Andy Carroll!

Tbf though Sultan, Carroll looks like he can go on to be a top striker if he continues playing like he has been this season. He can only improve as he is still 22. Not as good as Torres at his best, mind, but a very good striker nonetheless.

Newcastle and Liverprool have yet to agree a fee on Carroll, talks ongoing.

He was at the right level at Newcastle. You don't pay £35 Million for potential.
