Update from Gazzetta: The Udinese people are done with the meetings with foreign clubs, and will go back to Italy to speak with Juve and possibly other Italian clubs tomorrow. United have allegedly put an offer on the table.

Anyone else think Sky sports little clip of Sanzhez is really shit and annoyingly so? this is a player whos done so many wonderful things and yet Sky choose to show him doing about 500 Heskey esk speed stepovers and booting the ball out for a goal kick after an attempted cross??

Out of all the great goals he has scored, that's what they show... Yeah it's damn annoying.

Hehe, when Henderson joined Pool, RTE news showed a clip of him knocking a corner straight out of play........thought it was great!

Manchester City seek Udinese compromise over Alexis Sánchez

• City do not want to pay more than £25m to sign Sánchez
• Chile forward also wanted by Inter and Barcelona
Manchester City have told Udinese they do not want to go any higher than £25m in their pursuit of Alexis Sánchez, as the most financially endowed club in football set about bringing a new measure of restraint into their transfer business.

Garry Cook, the City chief executive, arrived in Italy , accompanied by the club's football administrator, Brian Marwood, with no intention of entering an auction for the Chilean forward who is on the radar of Barcelona and Internazionale and has also been offered to Manchester United. Increasingly aware of the implications of Uefa's financial fair-play rule, City are determined not to follow the route of previous summers when they have knowingly offered inflated sums to beat off rival bidders. Udinese want in excess of £30m and, while a compromise may be reached, it has been made clear to the Italians they are not negotiating with a club for whom money is no object, despite the popular perception that has developed of City under the ownership of the Abu Dhabi United Group.

What City want to avoid is the sense they are willing to pay over the odds just because they have done likewise in previous seasons. On the contrary, the incoming fair-play guidelines have drastically altered the transfer-window mentality within Eastlands, a change that has caused friction at times behind the scenes, with the manager, Roberto Mancini, having previously been under the belief there would be as much money as he wanted to bring in new signings for the next phase of the club's development. Mancini's relationship with Cook and Marwood has deteriorated over the past six months but it was made clear to him during an end-of-season meeting in Abu Dhabi with the chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, that the rules could not be ignored and that the club were simply unable to continue operating in the transfer market without restraint.

A compromise was reached and Khaldoon's assertion that the club probably needed only two signings has been modified to three or four, largely to appease a manager who believes the squad is not equipped to combine playing in the Champions League with mounting a serious challenge for the Premier League.

To fit in with the new philosophy, the club are willing to sanction a release of players to help drive down their wage bill. Nedum Onuoha is just one of a dozen or so who could leave, with Sunderland speaking to City about arranging a deal for a player they had on loan last season.

Jérôme Boateng has made it clear he wants to leave after a difficult, injury-troubled first season in Manchester, telling Germany's Kicker magazine he has agreed a four-year contract with Bayern Munich and that "it is up to Manchester to make it work, at the moment they are making things a bit difficult".

Bayern's bid is substantially less than the £10.5m City paid Hamburg at the start of last summer, a fee that was struck before the World Cup and regarded inside Eastlands as a bargain. City have noted Phil Jones's £16.5m valuation in moving from Blackburn Rovers to Manchester United, and also the £20m that Bolton want for Gary Cahill, and are adamant the 22-year-old Boateng, a Germany international on a five-year contract, will not leave for a loss.

Patrick Vieira may also leave Eastlands and, in doing so, end his association with English football. The former Arsenal player is on the list of free agents City have submitted to the Premier League, although it is still possible he may be offered another year-long deal later in the summer, depending on the club's transfer business. In the meantime, 34-year-old Vieira is considering several offers elsewhere.
I hope this is trueand we've bid over £30 for the lad.

Could Alexis Sanchez Be Manchester United’s Best Signing This Summer?

He is the most hottest property in world football at this current moment in time. Every big club has some kind of interest in him. Yes I am talking about Alexis Sanchez and I believe that he should become a Manchester United player.

The player dubbed El Niño Maravilla is said to be most interested in joining Barcelona however reports today emerged that Udinese representatives met with Manchester United representatives this afternoon to try to strike up a deal. It seems these reports are actually true but whether they will strike up a deal for the promising young forward remains to be seen.

He is possibly one of the most stylish players that I have seen. Definitely one of the best dribblers of the ball. El Niño Maravilla is predominantly a right winger but can also be deployed in any attacking position and for me is probably one of the best young players around. After an eye-catching world cup I was definitely not against the idea of Manchester United trying to sign him.

I however did watch quite a lot of Alexis Sanchez playing for his club Udinese last season in the Serie A. He most definitely had a very impressive season. In 31 league appearances in the 10/11 season he scored 12 goals, directly assisting 7 times.

I feel that what he could bring to Manchester United is something we have not had since the days of Cristiano Ronaldo. There I said it. The comparison with Ronaldo is inevitable for this player. As I have said he is a superb dribbler but that isn’t the only thing he has going for him.

What could Alexis Sanchez really bring to United? I feel the one thing he can give to us is that he is adept in playing every single position as good as each other. Most games he turns up in all attacking areas of the pitch. He seems to victimise players a lot repeatedly trying to beat the same man and succeeding most oftenly. His ball retention is superb.

With the speed of the English league I feel he would excel, possibly to the Ronaldo’s heights if he works hard enough. Defenders in England commit to the challenge a lot more than in Italy. Even in Italy he manages to get the defenders to commit to a challenge. He is often fouled and wins a lot of free kicks. It is not often that I have seen him lose the ball whilst dribbling with the ball though on occasion he can be loose with his passing.

Sanchez also has a brilliant shot on him. He is pacey, strong, skilful, creative and physical. He most definitely possesses the qualities needed for a player like him to suceed in the premier league.

With rumours of both Manchester United and Manchester City chasing him I would be disappointed if we were beaten to his transfer. It is inevitable that Manchester City will offer him more money than we will but if he does want to one day become one of the best players in the world he will need to play at the highest level possible and I do not think a move to Manchester City will be purely for footballing reasons.

I think that if Sanchez does transfer to Manchester United, it indicates to me that Sir Alex Ferguson is trying to emulate the interchangable forward line that we had back in 2008. That season Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Giggs swapped and changed positions countless times with each other every match making them extremely hard to mark and keep tabs on. It worked very well for us and was extremely successful and with the signing of Ashley Young, another versatile forward, maybe I’m onto something.

What would signing Alexis Sanchez mean for Nani? Most people believe that if we do sign Alexis Sanchez, Nani may be heading towards the exit door. I am also one of those who share that same belief. With us having just signed Ashley Young as well as having Antonio Valencia and Park Ji-Sung in our ranks I have an inkling that Nani may be on his way if this transfer takes place.

Alexis Sanchez could possibly be Manchester United’s best signing this summer. Would you be okay with this transfer if it meant losing Nani? Feel free to comment below

Manchester United join Manchester City in pursuit of Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez

A group including United chief executive David Gill met with Gino Pozzo, the son of the Italian club’s owner Gianpaolo, in the Catalan capital on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after Garry Cook and Brian Marwood opened informal talks with the Serie A side.

The 22 year-old has long been identified as Roberto Mancini’s priority transfer target and City remain confident of reaching a compromise price with Udinese, although sources at Eastlands admitted that reports in Italy on Tuesday that a deal had been agreed – or even a bid lodged – are premature.

Instead, Udinese seem intent on establishing which of Sánchez’s five suitors are prepared to match their £35million asking price. After meeting with representatives of both Manchester clubs in Spain – where the Pozzo family’s industrial empire has a base – Pozzo Jr is due to talk to Inter Milan and Juventus in Milan on Wednesday.

It is believed he has also held talks with Barcelona in recent weeks. The European champions had agreed personal terms with Sánchez last week only to see the deal they proposed to Udinese collapse when Bojan Krkic, the Spain Under-21 forward, refused to be used as a makeweight in the move. Pep Guardiola is now thought to have switched his attention to finalising a deal for Giuseppe Rossi, the former United forward with Villarreal.

That has allowed City to assume Barcelona’s mantle as favourites to land one of the most coveted players in Europe, with Pozzo Sr admitting this week the wealth afforded to the club by their Arab backers granted them an advantage.

But a sea-change in City’s approach may allow United to record a second morale-sapping victory on a close rival in as many weeks, after beating Liverpool to the signature of the Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones.

City are adamant they will no longer pay over the odds for players, as has been the case in previous years, now that there is no need to compensate for the lack of Champions League football. Marwood and Cook value a player Mancini is desperate to secure – particularly at a time when Carlos Tévez’s future is so uncertain – at around £25million. It is unlikely that City will raise that base cash offer to meet Udinese’s valuation.

City will hope, instead, to bridge the gap either by offering the Italian side – who will join them in the Champions League this season after a remarkable campaign under Francesco Guidolin – a number of players as collateral in the transfer or by adding a number of performance-related clauses.

United, too, are conscious of the potential cost of the transfer – Sir Alex Ferguson has already seemingly shied away from moves for both Wesley Sneijder, the Inter midfielder, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric – and Sánchez’s potential wage demands, as well as an astronomical fee, may prove prohibitive.

The Premier League champions remain keen to add Ashley Young to Ferguson’s resources, though their interest in Sánchez suggests Nani may have played his last game for the club.

Manchester United join Manchester City in pursuit of Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez - Telegraph

Gill being there suggests we're quite serious, whether it happens or not I still doubt it.

Yes Udinese want a big auction of the player. I think he's good but to compare him to Ronaldo is not good. He's nothing like Ronaldo - although I do like the player.

With Barcelona, Inter, Manchester City and others supposedly interested we have to face the fact that we may not get him (even though I'm understood he loves United from a report years ago).

We undoubtedly need an exciting winger. Though I like Young I still think we need another winger. My question is if we don't get Sanchez what alternative below the radar wingers could we bring in?

As much as I would like to believe we're in for him, I don't think we'll get him.

I honestly reckon it would be a big mistake not to get Sanchez.

Call it muppetry, but I think he has all the tools to be one of the top 5 or top 10 players in the world. Not yet, but in a few years.

Would I see Nani go to accomodate him? Yes. Don't get me wrong, over the last 18 months he has come on leaps and bounds, and he was immense for us at times last season. But in order to get Sanchez, I would see him go, albeit with a heavy heart.

What about having Young, Valencia, Nani and Sanchez at the club at the same time?

I don't think this would represent a problem. Sanchez has played mostly through the middle this season, Young has spent a fair bit of the season through the middle as well.

The question would be, who's ego would cause a problem first? I can't speak for Sanchez, but my money would be on Nani.

The long and the short of it is that we won number 19 last season, but we came up well short against Barca. Fergie's passion for the CL is well known. Our squad as it is now can't compete with Barca on the pitch, so new blood may address that, while consolidating what we have domestically.

I don't believe a word of it. It just doesn't make sense. Why would we need a £35 million winger/second striker when we have Nani, Valencia, Giggs, Park and possibly Young for the wings. And Rooney, Berbatov, Owen and Welbeck that can play the role behind a main striker?

I see what you're saying, but you can forget Giggs as a winger now, at least in big games. Ditto Park, who often nominally lines up wide, but does a good 75% of his work infield.

Because he is too good a player to miss out on.

United set to sign £27million Sanchez from under City's noses
Manchester United are ready to seal a £27million deal for Udinese’s Chilean star Alexis Sanchez - under the noses of Manchester City and Barcelona.

United supremo David Gill flew to Barcelona yesterday to meet Udinese’s negotiators who were talking to the Catalans as the auction for the talented attacking midfielder comes to the boil.

Top 10 things you need to know about United, City and Barca target Alexis Sanchez

And Gill was also spotted in talks with Sanchez’s representatives who have been with Barca - with insiders revealing that the player wants to go to United above all of their rivals.

Sanchez is being bartered around by Udinese, who wanted £30 million but are now under pressure to take less both by United and their South American star’s camp.

United have now gone in hard and official for Sanchez - despite City sending a two-man delegation of Garry Cook and Brian Marwood to Italy over the past few days.

City were hoping to blow all of the other bidders out of the water with an offer, but they have been told again that Sanchez prefers to go to the red half of Manchester.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants Sanchez as his next major capture, a race that sped up when Paul Scholes announced his retirement. United had been watching the exciting Udinese ace but really got serious as that vacancy appeared.

Sanchez is waiting on United and Udinese sorting out the fee. He is in Chile but has been given permission by his national team to fly off and sign for a new club before Copa America begins in July.

The gifted and speedy star wants to go to United as he believes he has a better chance of a game than he would at Barcelona who have been on his trail for weeks.

Barca failed to match Udinese’s asking price - despite offering cash and various player swaps - and they will now switch their search elsewhere with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas still high on their wish list.
and here's the story.

Because last season we were missing a player who could beat a player or two in tight spots and change the game, especially in away matches, sanchez is that type of player. We miss the tricks of ronaldo, sanchez has plenty.

even if we spunk 35 million and actually sign the lad, not sure if i'd get my todger out.

I'd be too confused about the further implications it has on our current squad. Very puzzling.

I so wish i'd not read this thread. I'm telling myself it'll not happen and not to believe anything but deep down I really hope for it to be true.

I hate the transfer window, it's probably my reason for balding ever so slightly

This will be this years Ozil thread, I've been working me arse off. Here's to your further balding.

Well let's say he's not £35 million for a start and more like £25m.

I'm not saying these players cannot compete as obviously we did well last season, but we did so despite most agreeing (United fans ABUs and neutrals) that our central midfield lacked the cohesion, one-touch play, and mobility of other United teams.

In short we need to restructure our central midfield - we saw that against Barcelona. They showed us the way to go - but really we knew it.

Giggs may not be as effective next year (we don't know), Park is not a traditional winger as he doesn't beat players, and while I like Young (assuming we sign him), Valencia and Nani - I still think we need another winger - but I cede that we probably we need central midfield players more!

If I could be arsed opening a new tab, loading youtube, searching for the video, copying the little bit of the URL and putting it in youtube tags I'd post the 'jizz in my pants' video.

But I can't.

Bullshit!

Agreed.

Also, on reflection, I think that perhaps Berbatov might have more cause than Nani to be concerned. He was great last season, and while I have never been a Berba-hater, I think I am a Berba-sceptic. I think that far to often the play slows down when he gets involved.

Young and maybe Sanchez who can both play through the middle might be an attempt to inject a bit more pace and hopefully fluidity into the team.
