I’m happy we go in 1-0 up but theres something systematically wrong with the way we set up because regardless of the opposition we lack control in every game we play. We’re incapable of retaining possession for any real length of time and I’m not buying that it’s simply down to personnel because teams with inferior players to us seem to pass the ball around better a lot of the time.

Utd are not getting Mainoo on the ball enough, 19 completed passes to Cas's 39 and Bruno's 30, the traditional Ten Hag third midfielder problem.
Happened against Wolves as well. As soon as Casemiro was taken off, Mainoo's involvement in the game doubled.

Think Amad would be great in this game - his dribbling ability and decision making would really help us on the right.

Amad will look like a great option for precisely as long as it takes for him to get a run in the side.

West Ham much better team, and the only good thing about this half is result and Hojlund's goal and his overall performance. Everything else terrible and it is just a question when, and not will we concede. Our idea of controlling the game is if we stand still and pass around, hoping that something will happen. It is unbelievable how bad this team is trained. We have absolutely no idea what to do with the ball when we are in possession.

Bruno is leggy but he’ll have to play through it. We need better wing play in the second half.

We are leading but this was not a good half. One chance created in 45 minutes.
Partly due to us and mostly due to Moyes shit tactics away from home.
Just constant shit balls from wide into the box after camping out 30 yards from their own goal

“The most shots of any David Moyes team in the first half at OT…including when he was United manager”

Martinez and Maguire have been great, Casemiro and Bruno less so, Rashford and Garnacho are not getting any change out of their full backs either.

    he has zero energy though

it’s a quick turnaround for an 18 year old

I know Antony is shite but at least he puts a shift in

Whoever it is I hope ETH makes use of the subs today as at the moment it’s looking bad

I would go with Amad who has better ball control in slow tempo games. Feel he would provide better passing range going forward but we know it will be Antony.

Overall, I'm pleased with how that half went. We are still too static in the midfield with players waiting for something to happen instead of attacking space to make things happen. I don't feel that West Ham have looked too threatening.

They had one-two chancec and thats it. We are in control of the game and tempo. As you said, crosses and long shots don't mean anything.
There is absolutely nothing about this game we are in control of. Honestly Ive seen west ham a lot. They’ve had 14 entries into our box and 13 shots. Most games, even home games West Ham struggle to get 2/3 shots/entries into the box in. It’s a bad, bad performance. Our cbs, halaand and onana have been good but everyone else has been so below par.

The lack of urgency and threat when building up the attack is making this a drab performance. However, bar set pieces I really don't think West Ham have done anything threatening, for all their shots.

We're just - for some reason - incapable of sustaining pressure. We lose the ball most times when entering their final third, which means it gets turned over and before you know it West Ham are seemingly stringing a few passes together, or blagging a corner. Set pieces are grim, which is where West Ham have looked most threatening.

Martinez, Maguire, Casemiro, Mainoo are all bringing an element of composure, it's just that the majority of that composure is happening in our own half. The minute the ball is moved further up field we are either panicking, picking the wrong pass or simply getting tackled.

Makes for an infuriating game of football. Please can we just batter a team for once.

    I love Lisandro Martinez
Me too! Can’t honestly understand comments around his rash plays at times but that’s really what makes him special and a Utd player. He has passion and is really committed. Ok sometimes it goes wrong but you have to look at it as a 80 20 case. Like no one can be perfect!

Mainoo tidy but deferring. Needs to get himself more involved, quality is there when he gets on it.
Victim of following instructions I feel. The other night, he was a different player as soon as Casemiro was off and he was given different instructions.

I think it is mostly fine. It is just that attacks stop when the ball goes to a winger. Garnacho has been terrible and Rashford not much better.

Apart from one great stop from Onana early on, what else he had to do? Those 17 shots mean feck all if 90% of them are pot shots from outside the box. They did have some passages of play but we haven't been troubled much. They are just looking to get JWP a set-piece at every opportunity they can get.

Brilliant goal from Rasmus on his 21st. Defence have done well and all but the midfield and wide forwards need to get more involved in the game or we'll be asking for trouble as this goes on.

I wouldn’t say they’ve threatened us other than that corner which forced onana into a save, which was deflected off Casemiro anyway. They’ve huffed and puffed and had a lot of the ball, but they’ve done nothing with it.
Exactly, one of the rare realistic posts about this half here, what are people watching saying West Ham had those tons of imaginary chances? Oh yeah, they are watching useless stats instead of the actual game. West Ham did feck all this half.

It would be nice to dominate the ball and play with a bit more control. We just make it look like everyone we play has a reasonable chance against us, which just shouldn't always be the case.

It's strange because that xG number thingy shows that West Ham have scored over one goal and yet the scoreline makes it seem like they're losing the match and we have had more shots on target... That can't be right surely?!
