We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I see something profound in Obama´s presidency that I´ve never seen or felt before in the US, but if you don´t, I don´t think I can convince you.

A black man in the white house combined with traditionally low dem turnout in mid-terms was what happened in 2014. But Hillary and the dems should be alright next year..though I dont expect huge gains.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict larger than expected gains for the Dems in southern states. The social norms have definitely shifted since 08 and 12, and if she doesn't make mess of her campaign, I expect those changes to be realized by Democratic gains in places like Georgia, NC, Virginia, and Florida. If Hillary wins any one of these 4 states, it will make it nearly impossible for her opponent to reach 270.
No way is a Republican winning Virginia. That is the Ace card for the Dems.
Agreed. The northern Virginia area is only getting more populated and is already a Dem haven. The Dems winning NC again would be devastating for the GOP. A final nail in the coffin.

Same as with other states where Obama did well in 2008 and 2012. NC has a lot more people living in the suburbs these days, many of which have different social attitudes to normal conservative perceptions of NC. There are enough people in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem along side a bustling college campus scene to push Hillary over the top, especially if her GOP opponent is seen as out of touch on key social issues.
I watched Ted Cruz on Tavis Smiley the other day. He's a smooth cnut and I think he will do quite well in the primaries. Tavis wasn't able to nail him on anything unfortunately.

Cruz does well in terms of marketing his clown car views as palatable, but that won't fly in the general election. Not that he has a snowballs chance of getting to that point anyway.

I've been the cameraman on a Cruz interview. I can tell you he's smart as a tack when it comes to his performance in front of the camera and very very fast. He needs to be as for photographs he can't get anything other than a creepy smarmy look. I've done a few of the far right republicans. Perry, Cruz, Carson, Rand, Huckabee. Of all of them Rand impressed me the most.
There is, as Anne Widdecombe famously said, something of the night about him. He's a typical lawyer.

If I were Jeb Bush I'd make a big play by coming out strong against Trump. Say it's a joke that he's running and say he's not fit to hold office with his antics and the things he says. I think he'd get a lot of support for something like that and it would show him as being somewhat principled. Having Trump on the same debate stage demeans the whole process but they are all too scared to say anything.
On the other hand it also served to further make Trump a name that keeps getting mentioned and could make him seem more like a real player in the race. Sometimes it might be better to just let the other campaigns implode.
Though it could turn this part of the campaign to Bush v Trump, if Jeb crushed him as he should then one more player is out of the race and Jeb scores points.

But if asked yes he should distance himself from Trump as far as possible. Maybe something like, "I strongly disagree with Trumps views. Beyond that rather than comment further I think it best to let his statements stand on their own stupidity."

Jim Webb is in the race as well now. Not that it's a reason to vote for him, but he did write my favorite book on the Vietnam war. I don't believe he's over the top nuts in any particular way. Tilts various ways depending on the issue. Seems smart enough, though a bit more hawkish than I need, and he seems to have a short temper and a lack of patience.
Great, I like Jim Webb. I am not comfortable voting for HRC at all and want her to go through a bit of a challenge.

This Trump thing is really spiralling out of control for the GOPers. He's completely changed their narrative from their usual policy bollocks to have to condemn Trump's views that Mexicans are rapists and criminals. This will not end well for them.

Jim Webb on the other hand will do well imo. He's got fantastic credentials across the board and will wind up giving Hillary a headache. I wouldn't be shocked if he gives her a proper run for her money. Would be funny if he wins the Presidency and the James Webb Space Telescope is launched while he's in office.
just a gut feel. I dont think Hillary will be our next president. It may well end up Webb winning the presidency. He will be a tough and honest man. The Clintons......slimy lot.
Its a more plausible possibility than some are willing to admit. She was the chosen one and 2008 and got smashed by a younger, more vibrant upstart. She seems more polished and relaxed this time, so lets see if she has learned anything. IIRC Webb may be able to smash her on the Iraq War, which will play well with the base. He's also got very good military credentials which will get him some crossover votes from independents and even some liberal Republicans. He's got a real chance if he runs a good campaign.
Webb is very articulate. His answers to questions are very well thought out. His only weakness is he has short temper. If that is controlled..I think he will make a fine president.

I agree. She has too much baggage IMO. If she wins the nomination, I think a Republican will win the presidency (assuming they don't nominate someone completely loony).
I don't think a Republican has a chance to win, mainly because of what is at stake. The GOP candidate would have to sweep all the swing states, which is nearly impossible given the gaggle of clowns they're putting up this time.
Their eventual nominee will probably make a shift towards the center once the primary is done. They are still in "red-meat" mode. It's too early to tell, I suppose.
I'm sure of that, trouble is there have been significant demographic shifts and changes in societal norms since the last time a Republican won the White House. In fact, no Republican has won the WH by more than 1 state since 1988. Dire times ahead for the GOP, and by the looks of thing, rather than changing policies, they are doubling down on their hardline positions on Gay Marriage, foreign interventionism etc. The country has changed whereas they are insisting on keeping old policies, which is a good recipe for failure in the Presidential election.

Bill Clinton needs to be careful. He has said in the past...that he likes him and plays golf with him.

I'd say there's next to no chance it'll be anyone but Hillary for the nomination. At this stage of the race for the 2008 nomination, Hillary was ahead but Obama was consistently above 20% in polls and the clear second favourite (and as a candidate was a level above all of them). This time round Hillary has a consistent 40-point lead and Webb is polling 1%. Sanders seems to be the opposition, but he's not going to win the nomination.
But Webb only just announced. Webb is far more conservative than Obama of course. But he comes across as very resonable. You feel you can trust the man though you dont agree with everything he says. The Sanders supporters will want someone genuine. Hillary is a 'politician'. Webb does not come across as that.

This would ring true if Webb was in the race for months. His numbers will gradually grow now that he is. Early days etc.
