Maybe they are looking like such good players because Lampard is finding a system to get the most out of them as well as good man management. Abraham didn't look great at swansea. It's conceivable Mount could have wilted.

Their loan players returning were equivalent to us buying Dan James, in fact they had done more than him in the Championship. Zouma had a decent season at CB for Everton, he's also the equivalent of a £30m+ signing.
Maybe it was the general consensus but not for me:It's easy to say that now in hindsight but no one was saying this in pre season.
Go on to the pre season prediction thread and over half of the posts didn't even have us in top 6 (and nearly all had United and Spurs above us) while our lineup at Old Trafford was universally laughed at. People may say we have a good squad now but that certainly wasn't the general consensus in August.
We have more depth but first 11 wise there's really not much in it.
Chelsea are being written off because they haven't bought any players but lost Hazard, when actually they've brought in Pulisic as well as others like Zouma, Batshuayi, Abraham and Mount returning from loan.
Arsenal have made signings after finishing above us, so have Spurs. Let's see what we do in the next week or so but as it stands we could end up anywhere between 4th-8th in my opinion.

That's the only concern i have with Lamps. We musn't go HG for the sake of it, especially now we've got the quota sorted and then some.My guess is Lampard is going to go the 'English core' route

I can subscribe to Sancho (although i would prefer a winger closer to his prime for balance sake) but there's much better options about than Chilwell and Cook out there.
Maybe i'm being a bit idealistic but i want our fullbacks to have a lot of dynamicsm and good decision making going forward, i really don't see it with Chilwell and while supporting him as an England player he honestly frustrates me as much as Alonso does while on the attack (though he's a better defender).Cook I agree with, but I'm not sure there are too many left backs who are better at a similar age as Chilwell, plus settling would be easier, no adjusting to the league, etc. Not trying to have a dig but genuinely curious who you think makes more sense.

I think with Barkley if he goes will be replaced by Conor Gallagher (On loan at Charlton and is close to eclipsing Mount's numbers at Derby already). As for Pulisic, the potential is definitely there and i will give him time, we saw the talent he has Saturday and against Liverpool but he has a big problem with consistentcy right now, when he's not on it he tends to be a ghost (his stats against Leicester especially were horrific), he needs to improve on that big time.You guys already have a really good core of English players. Sancho and Chilwell would be two players for you, or you could swap Tomori with Slabhead.
Barkley is not good enough, so if the reason he is playing is due to lack of alternatives then you should definetively get someone in to take his place.

Who would be my pick? Would have been Tierney but he's off the market now so next choice for me is Alex Telles, i think he has all the hallmarks of a modern LB and would improve us on the offense phase hugely.

Emerson was looking good before his injury. We don't need a left back.
I really like Emerson, he's got Brazilian flair in attack and he's a decent defender. Also Chillwell seems to have dropped a level this season every time I've watched him. He'd be another average defender had he not been English.Emerson seems to get better every time he plays, He is only 25 so we really don't need a left back.
I feel Lampard may follow Klopps blueprint with the fitness and he will go full pelt to ingrain it I'm the club and accept the short term hits (minor knocks and a few flat performances) for longer term gain.Still enjoying the result and mulling over how it impacts the rest of the season.
The players will be able to look back on this and use it as yardstick for future games. Frank referred to the performance as a "blueprint" for the future. (Such an appropriate phrase) You could tell he thought the players had carried out his plans really well. This is so important for a manager. To know your workforce is listening and carrying out your instructions is very gratifying but for those instructions to then secure such an important victory puts Frank in a very good place. He knows his tactics and management are working but he also knows there is still lots to do. He is smart enough to know he cannot just stand still and will need to come up with new ways of enthusing the players.
This success was very much based on hard work and you could see Ajax were tiring with the introduction of Pulisic towards the end. I think Frank had a definite plan to play high energy football. I think his overall plan includes playing high energy football. You can play all the fancy tactics you like but if you can out run your opponent you can win. You still need plans but a high energy high press beats a high press. The players gave their all last night and thank heavens they got the result. It would have been devastating for all concerned if they had worked that hard and lost. They didn't though, and the victory was deserved. They got their just rewards and now know that this type of effort gets results. Frank can ask for this type of effort in the knowledge that the players know it can get them a result as well as the type of feeling they got on the plane home.
The players will be exhausted today and after todays warm down I'm pretty sure Frank will give them a day off. And here's Franks next challenge. How does he manage the energy levels in the team. Its encouraging to see Frank recognises that Willian's tires if asked to run like the team did last night. If he makes good use of the bench, Willian can put in a sacrificial performance and come off after an hour. Bringing on Pulisic late in the game is a real strong move and the only problem with it is that he will, rightly so, want to start in the next game.
Frank has to manage this situation and so far he has made many more good decisions than bad ones. Well done Frank and long may it continue.

I think Frank was a hard worker as a player and he expects the same from his players now. I think that's the Blueprint. (I like that phrase and hope it catches on) Blueprint football even. I don't follow LFC close enough to say but it appears CFC may even have a bit more depth in their squad to rotate a bit more.
