2019/20 Season Review

6/10 season at best. Anyone saying otherwise is stretching it too. Got top 4 but with 66 points and trophyless.

In ranking of our other seasons post Fergie, it's probably 3rd or 4th in ranking among 7 seasons.

66 points but beating the top teams like Leicester, Spurs, Chelsea & City, we pretty much kicked their ass off which prevent some of them to be in top 4. The table this time reflects to exactly where we are 3rd best team in the league. We were only inconsistent against the lesser team since we had Pereira & Lingard to rely on, could have got more than 66 if Bruno was brought in from the start of season.

Unlike previously when Klopp Liverpool was better than us despite of finishing below us. Some of those season, our position on the table was a fluke before.

We reached our no 1 goal which is finishing top 4. Lot of players are improving, 19/20 signings were improving the team as well, beating City & Chelsea in all the league matches, manager shows clear idea and the direction what he wants to build, giving lot of youth players chances and two of them have been playing lot of regular as well.

The downside are fail to win at least one of Europa League or FA Cup & not beating Liverpool at least once.

I would say this is the one that filled in with most positive season we ever had post Sir Alex era. If it was Ajax kids & Celta Vigo instead of Sevilla & Inter/Shakhtar, I think we would have win Europa League like in 16/17 season.

Whats with the obsession here to compare Ole with Klopp? No one in their right mind would compare them, Klopp is one of the greatest coaches of this generation, Ole is not even among the top coaches in the league, thats how far they are.

Klopp is used as an excuse here to say that winning things take time, much like saying any player can make it at top level because of Vardy.

I compared Klopp with Mourinho not Ole. Were you even reading the post? I guess not!

This team we have assembled so far performs in ebbs and flows, is very temperamental and lacks the grit and character to grind out results. Perhaps it will come with time, as the players mature. It is still quite a young side which will take couple of years more to become fully functional and title challengers.

I didn't expect that we will finish 3rd in the table. I guess we were somewhat lucky that Leicester drop off the cliff while Chelsea was inconsistent. We could very much finish 5th and miss Champion League again. It is a disappointment to not have reach the final and win 1 of the trophy. It is so disappointing to lose this morning know we are a better team. Martial really should have put 1-2 chances away and Ole insistent of playing Rashford didn't help. Happy that we are back in Champion League, I will give us a B- for the season. Next season will be a tough one, with 4-5 teams vying fighting for 3rd. We would need at least 4 decent signing just to finish in the top 4. I hope Ed is already on the phone looking at 3-4 potential signing with or within Sancho.

The only positive from this season is that we have a good starting eleven and a solid foundation to be more successful the next season, we improved our records against top six, and we are in the champions league. We had one of the best defensive record in Europe and MMM is one of the most lethal attack in Europe as well. When, you put all of that together, it really question how we finished on such a low point tall and no trophy.

Beside that positive, Everything else was negative. We rode our luck with Var, and penalties. Our football was not eye catching, We had a low point tally, and no trophies. It could be a season of false dawn or promises.

Next season, if we have a similar season to this one, Ole will no doubt get sacked, so I guess Ole get a pass because it is his first full season.

Moving in the right direction. A couple of years ago we had our best finish since winning the league when we finished 2nd under Jose, but it didn't feel like we were a team, on the way up. This year we have finished with less points, and finished in 3rd, but there is some excitement around this team. We are moving in the right direction and there is a lot of positives about this very young team. Our front 3 has a combined age of 62. To put that into perspective, Arsenal with Willian has a front 3 with a combined age of 93. We are a team on the way up. Ole also managed to get players off the books who needed to go. Still more to clear out but it can't all be done in one day. Add in a couple of new signings and hopefully we are ready to start challenging again...

6.5 out of 10. Lot's of positives with a very young squad. The big thing is. If we do not strengthen the squad it could all fall in a heap very quickly.

We have achieved our minimum target of Top 4. We have a young squad and there is a lot of room for improvement next season. We are still far away from challenging EPL and CL. We need 2 or 3 quality additions in order for us to have any chance to compete at the highest level.

The style of play as one of the biggest club is still not convincing enough. We don't dominate team or keep possession well. The team still have no answer when playing against a team that press well/fast. There is also lack of movement especially in attacking third. Lack of team play and depend too much on individual brilliant. The tactics, coaching and in game management need to improve next season.

Ole deserve another season and if we don't improve we need to start to look at manager like Nagelsman and Poch.

Not winning the Europa League was a disappointment, but that loss was at the hands of a quality side. We put together some impressive streaks at being unbeaten and also winning by 3 goals, and we’ve only had what is now our first choice 11 for a minor portion of the season.

That latter part taken into consideration, finishing 3rd was a success regardless of the lack of trophies.

The one major thing we had to achieve this season was a top 4 finish. A cup would've been a bonus, and the Europa League in particular would've been very good. Its disappointing how we lost that game, but that shows you how far we still actually are.

Now the only thing that matters is building on this season's success by getting the players we need in. If we don't manage to do that, it would be reminiscent of Jose's second season when we thought we were moving forward, and we end up so far from where we should've been.

I thought the Sancho deal would be done by now, but it seems its gonna be pretty difficult. I think we need to get at least 3 players in to improve our starting eleven and squad, especially given the short break the players are going to have.
