Isn't normal travel to Qatar rather expensive in the first place? My perception is a place that only the rich go to vacation, but maybe I'm wrong. It's not a place I'd consider to go to 'party', but maybe the other nearby countries will get a bit of overflow.
The whole idea of having a large, extended sporting event anywhere in that region really boggles the mind. Besides the heat, there are the religious-based restrictions, plus who knows whether any sectarian violence rears its ugly head.
Concerning the footy, are any leagues suspending play for the duration? I guess it'd be like when the ANC was played in Jan/Feb, but much more widespread, with bigger teams being affected much more, since they are more likely to have national team players. Or will the bigger leagues just move their winter break, or even start the season earlier & end later?
