Decent season if we win the FA cup. Okay season if we don’t. Neither ecstatic nor supremely disapponted.
Sevilla was a nightmare and the general football needs to improve. But we have another year to look forward to with some hope. Expectations have also fallen so it’s all kind of alrightish end of the day for me.

Im with you on this one. We qualified for the Champions League through the league for only the second time since Fergie left and pretty much without breaking a sweat.
No harm in being happy about that.
Not really sure it should be a well done its a bare minimum for us surely, never really in a title challenge if honest, City were just so dominate, biggest thing was football was poor a lot of season again, big plus is the results v the better teams improved at least, motivation and an urgency is what I think we need a lot more of next season, far too slow in the build up in most of the games.

Can we cut out this we are United this we need to win everything, we must win the title every season crap? We are the biggest football club in the world but stop acting like we have any given right over anything. We've been in shambles the last couple of years, only once finishing in the top 4, despite spending money every summer, so be fecking realistic, we have improved on that and it's only a good sign.
This probably describes how I feel about the season most accurately too.
Its a tin foil hat moment but something tells me that in future this City side will be found guilty of doping and the title is going to be given to the second placed team.

I would say that top for is not minimum, its normal service. For a club of our size and resources minimum targets should include winning something.
It's genuinely as if some of you have forgot our recent struggles. After the last 5 years i can't understand how you're not happy that we look to be back to normal service.

Top 4 is good but I expect lot more this season.
It might have worked that way, but that's not the case. Missing the CL is gutting, so to be in it comfortably this year is a relief. Using the post SAF era as a benchmark this is the first time we aren't sweating over it so I'm very happy about that.
I think a lot of people are overlooking the progress that we've achieved over the past year, we finished 6th last season and barely beat Ajax in the Europa final, this season we are in the FA cup final and easily sitting in 2nd Place... if someone told me we'll be 2nd and in the FA cup final when the season began i would have been ecstatic... I'm extremely happy with our progress this season and hopefully we can bump it up next season and fight for the title

It is when you consider that for the last 4 years, we have either failed to quality or have needed to wait until the final set of games of the season have been completed.
This season, we have taken a step forward and next season we need to take another step forward (ie. 1st place in the league).
Yeah fair play. I'm no fan of JM but this is a good achievement. I'd have gladly taken third at the start of the year.

That's how LFC supporters would've felt about winning the league.
They stopped winning the league and that carried on for about 30 years (and counting).
We need to take one step at a time and getting 2nd place is a significant step to our progress back to the top of the league.
Win on Friday and I win my bet. We will finish higher than Liverpool and I will love taking the money from 2 guys in my local.

Saying "we're united and we should be winning everything" is such a spoiled and entitled attitude to have not to mention a ridiculous thing to say in this climate. It totally ignores what has happened since SAF retired. You have to face facts that we are no longer the English juggernaut that would roll over anyone and anything in its path. We have not finished in the top two in the previous 4 seasons, and only finished in the top four (4th) in one of them. We have a manager who openly admits we haven't played the best football this season and who wants to make it better. But more importantly a man who demands a winning mentality from his players and is something he's going about instilling in the team.

agree that getting top 4 should be routine for us. since Fergie left though it hasn't been, so this season at the very least has marked a return to comfortably qualifying, which should be our norm. now it's time for a title challenge. this summer will be very important, but in a way it will also rely on City coming back to earth a little - which should happen if other teams start working them out a bit more and not letting be so dominant in games.
Was just reading and turns out that 86 points that we could potentially finish at would have been a very good tally generally. City in 13/14 had 86 points and Liverpool under Rodgers and Suarez had 84.
It's as close to championship form we've had since SAF. It's very nearly good enough to win you the league most seasons. People don't like perspective though.
We are going to finish comfortably ahead of both Liverpool and Spurs, two teams the caf and all of the media have been waxing lyrical about all season, to the point where it has been stated the only reason why we are above them is ‘luck’.

I wouldn't say we failed miserably at all. Man City were just incredible this year. We had that patch around Christmas dropping points in draws but when you are waiting and waiting for the team above you to slip up and it doesn't really come..

Perspective should also tell you though that the few teams under us have had a poor season than perhaps their team reflects. Tottenham, Chelsea and in particular Liverpool should be matching us really, i mean Liverpool are in with a real shot of winning the CL here. If anything I would say we are just the current better of a season under performing bunch.
Addressing the thread in general, we've been lucky at times this season and it looked like the wheels may come off at one point but fair play, despite some abysmal matches and even worse results like Sevilla we've turned it around and made 2nd, which, yes, is progress and we should be happy about it provided we kick on next season. But to make a thread like this is pretty small time, more Mourinho fanboy mentality too than anything else. Objectively he's kind of failed this season, especially if we lose in the FA Cup, we're not getting anywhere in in the CL anytime soon with the kind of football we put out against Sevilla and I don't see us catching City anytime soon either.
I am happy with the progress and the games this season. Yes, some were dull and boring but overall very good year. What makes me excited about next year is that even when we play bad, we win games. Just a couple additions to the team and will be winning major trophies.
And you think bring in another manager will prevent Man City from winning the title?

Some of the replies are here are stupid. Do you really expect us to win the title after City with already the best squad in the league added quality players so much so they have Aguero on the bench! Idiotic. Jose has us in a final and 2nd with a guy from Fulham who can't get into the England squad in defence, a failed winger best known for catching bird droppings in his mouth as well as the worst RB out of the top 10 who uses one leg to smash balls into shins. I'm not saying we have to better City's spending just wait until we bring in a few more signings so Jose can have a starting 11 closer to what he wants from his players. Some of you need a reality check.

Good progress - A lot of right steps in the right direction.
Looking at City, they can unlock compact defences, which is where I think we need to step up next season. Faster and more efficient football is what we need.

It's a step up from previous seasons and the bare minimum we should expect. But next season we really to step it up and become genuine contenders for the league and CL.
The reality check is that Jose signed a defender thats been bunk and cant displace that defender you mentioned, and has already had what, 2 or 3 windows to address the fullback situation, his poor handling of the Luke Shaw situation this season hasn't been great either.
The fact is if we'd been going after reasonably priced players to fill actual gaps in our squad we'd be better off, but as has been reported we'd rather chase players like Perisic to the bitter end, not only willing to overpay but chasing a fruitless endeavour when other signings were happening around us, there needs to be more flexibility than that.
The RW situation is particularly annoying when you take into consideration the Sanchez signing, when everyone thought he'd slot in there and not displace Martial instead, who now looks likely to leave, which is a big mistake in itself. We already need 2 midfielders as it is and to address the fb situation as you mentioned, are we going to splash out on a RW as well? Highly doubtful, suffice to say I think mainly everything has been handled quite poorly in this regard but maybe thats just me.
I drew up a list of about 8-10 players we could of signed in the last 2 years since Mourinho started that would of dramatically improved out squad overall, all within the budget of what we've already spent, so it can be done, it just hasn't, and so i dont have the confidence that it will happen. I expect more short sighted signings with the next 2 odd seasons in mind, and not the future, where Mourinho won't be with us.
Another reality is overpaying and begging Fellaini to stay when what he brings to the table we could get from any lanky player. No other top team in world football would ever beg a player of such limited ability as Fellaini.
I can't work out if ppl are genuinely that disappointed by our season? There have been disappointing moments (Sevilla & City at home) being my least favourite. But I am generally content given how far we have come since Moyes-gate. I grew up watching SAF bring unprecedented glory to United but think it's pretty obvious we went into freefall when he left and since then have been slogging our way back upwards - all while the PL has become much more competitive.
There will always be critics and our football could have definitely been much more entertaining this season but I think we have to be practical. Guardiola already had the best squad IMO + then improved it considerably meaning he can play offensively every game and generally come out on top (basically what we did under Fergie, attack attack attack etc. because we had the best players in pretty much every position). At the end of last season our squad was littered with 6/10 players, a few young prospects + DDG. I would say we were behind Chelsea, Spurs and City on paper at the start of the season. Now I feel we are close to challenging on all fronts - sort our fullbacks out, add a CM and settle on a system and I think we're pretty much there again.

Just about better than nowt, win the cup and it's a passable season, not quite a good one. Hopefully we're stable now and can push for a title challenge immediately.
Being runner up against the record breaking city, and 3 teams that many here says to have a better attacking team with modern manager. Another cup final. And people want jose sacked. That's right, not just given time and conditions, sacked on the spot.
