A BIG Question: Torres or Mascherano?

Buddenbrook said:
I think that the Torres deal may have been 'in place' all summer but dependable on the cost of United's midfield arrivals and the funds generated by the sale(s) of players.

Next week we might see this if the Carrick and Senna deals can be finalised. It could explain many things.

Well press conference on Friday so we will see how many players will be attending

Torres, Senna and Carrick.

Would that make you happy. I'd be very very happy with that. Although

Torres, Mascherano and Carrick has a slighty better ring to it.

I think option 1 is more realistic, although Senna and Carrick will probably be the case.

Although it's a pipe dream, I think option 2 would enable us to compete for the title and CL but nobody knows how much (if any) we have to spend.......they've kept their cards close to their chests this summer!!

27m, 20m, 15m - Total 62m

Rec'd
Ruud - 11m
Mikel - 12m

I doubt we'd spend 40m net in one Summer...

But

What is actually so good about Mascherano? Aside from his flashy name and e-reputation?
Well, if you've seen a number of Brazilian games like I have, you'd realise he's the closest there is to Makelele in the market today.

The other is De Rossi, who will prove even more difficult to sign now that Roma are in the CL.

he's a defensive midfielder in the mold of makelele, superb positional play, marking, movement, tackling, footballing brain, will to win, his first touch and long ball distribution could be improved but at 21/22 he's astoundingly mature and will develop into one of the best if not the best midfielders in the world over the next 2 years (assuming a move to europe).

The Argentine David Batty, he's worth 20 million for some reason

mozza has spoken, he must be right as his is the only opinion that can possibly be true

EDIT: you're just showing your ignorance mate, leave it

Not at all
Well, there are quotes from many former professionals, team mates, coaches all praising him saying he'll be a top player, United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid, Milan, Inter and Juventus (that I know of) have all been linked with him/made bids (arsenals was £7.5m, rejected by river) over the past 2 years.

I guess though that you're right and all these people know nothing about football.

He plays for Argentina, not Brazil, Cal.

That's what im talking about when I mean e-reputation. I dont know who you were watching but it wasnt him.

All those who wank over Mascherano, how many games have you watched him play ? Have you ever seen him play in the Brazilian league or just some youtube videos ?
Perhaps Barca should sell Ronaldinho and buy Muntari because he had a better World cup than the Brazilian too. We should also sell Rooney and go for Podolski

You may never have seen him play but there are plenty who have, he's also been a regular in the Argentinian side for years (made his debut before playing a first team match for River, his first club) so there has been plenty of opportunity to watch him play, as well as channel fives late night matches etc.

He's argentinian but plays for Corinthians, a Brazilian team, which is why he said brazillian matches.

You wont find him running around like a Gattuso, Ze Roberto and other yard dogs throwing in tackles without tactical acumen.

Like Redondo, he is technically strong, an exceptional reader of the game with postional sense, defends elegantly without fuss. Also like Keano he is dogs bollocks..gives a flying feck to reputations and goes on with his business. In the Copa America and WCQ, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Adriano were rendered ineffective as he had them in his back pocket. Having watched the internationals and some matches in the Brazilian league, I am yet to see an attacking player that came out on top of him.

Its rare to find such a midfielder at a very young age and if carefully groomed, he can become the next Keano.

He'll have to develope an attacking game to become that, which means he never will be

Keano didn't develop his attacking game overnight. He played as a CB, midfielder, RB and finally a bos to box midifielder.

In the FA cup final against Spurs he played as a sweeper before the defence, if my memory serves right.

Just because your hero Carrick is not good defensively, do you now have to try and make stupid arguments that defensive midfielders are not needed and a water carrier is more imprortant to the team. :wenger:

I highly doubt we will sign Torres, Masherano and Carrick. That is more the ideal outcome of our transfer dealings if we had the money.
If we sign Torres we won't sign Masherano, if we sign Masherano we won't sign Torres. However saying that it is more than likely Torres will be in Madrid and Masherano will be in Brazil after we make our signings. I'ld prefer Masherano over Torres due to price and the fact Torres might want to go back to Spain somewhere in the future.
So it is more likely to be Torres, Senna, Carrick or Cheapish striker, Masherano, Carrick.
