Aberdeen vs. United XI [Testimonial Friendly]

Ah come on Paul.

Sigh. Not great from Scholsey, who tackles himself there...

What's the purpose of this game? Just a chance for some United players to strop around for 90 minutes?

Anyone notice we always seem to stick Macheda up by himself when he gets a game? And then he ends up looking isolated and useless?

Scholes is always prone to doing something stupid, like the handball in the Super cup, the kick against Man City or trying to slap Xabi Alonso.

International week. More playing time for some players who arent going away with their national teams.

I hope this isn't the Giggsy we're going to see this season. Lots of ambitious, unnecessary passes of which 0 have come off. :(

I know that:
a) It's preseason/testimonial
b) This isn't all first team players

But we're getting outplayed and out hustled by Aberdeen. With Giggs/Scholes/Anderson etc all on the pitch.

I definitely don't get what's so wrong when we try to play this formation.

This season? He's been doing it for ages

They're not playing though. They're just stropping around refusing to put any effort in. They've actualy managed to make football into some kind of punishment.

Nick Powell the pick of the midfield. Showing he'll make interceptions, hunt people down and tackle. Might need to improve his slide tackling technique but I've seen worse from Wilshire.

Tom Thorpe also looked good at CB. Looks very composed on the ball

I am hoping the performance we've seen so far in this game is solely down to the fact that the players know its a nothing testimonial but my memories of the slow motion zombie passing both last season and the season before give me a worried feeling that this is all we're capable of without Cleverley and Kagawa. The fashion in which we conceded the Aberdeen goal epitomised the play of the team as a whole: dawdling, stationery, guileless.

He's been like this all year. Almost none of his passes seem to pick anyone out.

I guess its more about getting the match fitness back and not over exerting and risking an injury days before the season starts.
Running around and getting a few kicks is probably better than just training.

I know he looks about 24 and cost a relatively big fee (£4m?) which brings its own expectancy, but people should remember Powell has only just turned 18 and is actually showing lots of promise for someone of that age.

That's what I thought as well, don't understand why people are slating him, it's Anderson and Scholes who aren't having the best of nights.

Agree on both. Thorpe's composure always impresses me.

Well - I'd wager that actually run, a bit at least, kind of, would help their fitness.

Strolling around, trying to imitate Darron Gibson, does not.

It's getting to the point where Quinton Fortune would actually light the place up if he came on.

Yup. Very frustrating for us over the past 12 months. So rare for a mature player to be so impatient and wasteful.

He looks like a player who is always involved in play, always looking to make things happen. Today it's not coming off for him, in a few years as he matures he could be very productive.

To be honest, I think the midfield has been fine. Shocking mistake from Scholes, but we've generally been in control. It's more the fact that we don't really have anyone to aim for upfront, and no quality on the wings with Giggs and Bebe being fairly mediocre.

No way anyone in the United line up is getting any match fitness out of this. Half of them have barely bothered to move.

Even by meaningless sulky end of season testimonial standards it's been quite shocking, to be honest...and if anything you'd expect a bit more buzz just before the season starts.

The zombie slow motion thing that Noodles has been talking about is definitely happening tonight.

It would be some sort of comfort if we did not have an actual revived dead man on the bench, and the Manchester United pensioneer golf club.

And they're not even the most retired ones in the squad.

Definitely. No movement from anyone. Macheda, Bebe and Giggs not good enough today.

Good to see Januzaj on!
