Airtricity League XI Vs Manchester United

Excellent half. As pre-season games go, we've been pretty good in every aspect. Also, did anyone else notice that PIG played that entire half with the label on his shirt?!

Opposition's been the poorest we've played against all pre-season, by a mile too, made for a decent game though.

2-0. Park and Owen.

Park was a fortunate goal, defender dallied and tried to clear it and Park stuck a leg out and it went into the goal.

Owen's was sex. It was a lob over the keeper as being closed down between 2 defenders. Hard to describe it.

HT, very good performance so far. Park, Valencia, Owen, Rooney have all looked so sharp. Gibson's passing has been very good and Smalling and Vidic have looked untroubled.

Agreed, must say despite this being awful opposition Smalling-Vidic as a partnership are great on the ball, very efficient and look classy when in possession.

Valencia looks very sharp, Owen too.. Rooneys touch is abit hit and miss but he's looking light on his feet and is in a mischevious mood which I prefer, he's always more entertaining when he's prepared to do things off the cuff.

Smalling looks like a beast - hes huge, mobile and looks to be calm in possession.
I think if we play against an opposition that wants to use the long balls, they might as well forget it if we have Vidic and Smalling at the back.

That Cantona ad was class.

This is the last game I'll be watching on streams for a long time. Thank feck for that.

I like Irish ads. Something more.... innocent about them, even though it's all for the same shite.

alright, fun 1st half, only downside Carrick's injury. O'Shea has been poor, hopefully he'll improve, Owen has been pretty impressive, same goes for Park. Rooney trying to lob the keeper in umphteenth time and missing a sitter, but he's a having a good run out me thinks.

HT, time to take a piss.

Airtricity League XI 0-2 Manchester United
Ji Sung Park 13, Michael Owen 25

Visitors Manchester United lead at half-time of the first-ever football game at the Aviva Stadium courtesy of goals by Ji Sung Park on 13 minutes and a second by Michael Owen on 25 minutes.

The home-based team had held their own in the early stages but fell behind when Gavin Peers' attempted clearance inside his own six-yard box rebounded off the South Korean and flew high into Gary Rogers' net.

Owen made it 2-0 with a superb lob over Rogers on 25 minutes after Park crossed set him up with a cross from the left.

In Wayne Rooney's first game since the World Cup, the Manchester United striker has been close to getting off the mark but lifted the easiest chance of the evening over the crossbar when Darron Gibson's low shot was batted away by Rogers only to the edge of the area where Rooney was all alone.

Smalling did pretty well I thought. He's sometimes a bit dodgy with his passing but overall it was a good performance so far.
OShea was good as well, Evans is a better CB but hasnt been too shabby on the left neither.

Gibson started really well but faded a bit.
Carrick :(

Fantastic touch from Owen and great performance from Valencia.

That throw in  It looked ridiculous but at the same time somehow sinister and evil.

Hard to really judge much as the gap in quality is pretty big. Good to see Owen back though...didn't think he was meant to be fit for a few weeks

good game. Not idea how Carrick got injured. Had good width from Valencia. Owens goal was great and he's looked good for someone who's been out for so long. Rooney should have a goal to his name but it'll come

I know its difficult to judge Smalling against weak opposition but physical wise unless he comes up against Drogba he should be fine.

Really can't tell with Vida as he hasn't been tested. There was a header back to TK that seemed like it could go wrong but, there was a call by TK for it.

He looks ultra confident but, not hard to with what he has faced till now.

Disappointed that Carrick has gone out with Chicharito coming on.

Would love to see him playing some balls over the central defenders for him to run onto.
