Ajax vs. Manchester United

At least they have the decency to ease us in to this shit fest gently, Ajax are a decent side.

Looking forward to this. Should be in about half five, so the timing will be just about perfect.

SAF on the Europa League: “We don’t have a game on the Saturday, so I can play my strongest team and I will play my strongest team."

Sir Alex Ferguson also said that he will "be a bit more careful with the number of young players" that play in the Europa League games.

Starting XI

Bench: Amos, Fryers, Pogba, Scholes, Valencia, Welbeck, W.Keane

Not in the squad: Rooney, Giggs, Ferdinand, Nani, Carrick, Evra, Kuszczak
Out: Vidic, Anderson, Fletcher, Lindegaard, Owen

I think we'll be happy to play our B team in order to keep the pressure up in the title. Don't know what to expect but I'll take a draw.

If I see most comments on a big Dutch football forum, then Evra will be in for some abuse if he's playing. Most Ajax supporters have an irrational love for Suarez and are convinced that Evra set up Suarez in this whole racism row.

Oh, and a lot of them believe the Liverpool PR that it's actually Evra ignoring Suarez' hand :wenger:

They're just as deluded as the scousers.

They are awful at the mo' tbf. Am off to the game. Super stadium- they close the roof and have overhead heaters and all that and their fans are superb- seen them three times after this and first two games their fans were class despite the fact Real were hammering them.

But they are a shadow of past Ajax teams and it should be a comfortable win. This is round of 32 isn't it? This crappy competition has too many rounds.

Good. Our next 2 games are against them so I expect our strongest possible team. As if we don't need reminding, we're already out of the Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. We dare not let complacency cost us another chance of success.

The kick off time is gonna make things awkward for me though.

Yeah, I think so.

Just be thankful we didn't have to go through the group stages- playing Eastern European teams named after tyre factories.

How tedious, I wish this would all just feck off.

Suarez never bit your mans ear, just wanted to tell the poor cnut a secret.

He said something racist, got caught, got punished, Liverpool fans start a war over it, he comes back, makes a tit of himself again, Liverpool again twist it so that they're not in the wrong. He's a disgrace to the game, and the sooner he's out of the league the better. The fact that it's spreading into other threads says it all really.

We should put out or strongest possible team.
It is European Silverware and is there for the winning.

This Suarez shit is starting to get boring now , it is starting to affect every game we play in.

It would be good to give Carrick a rest but I'm not sure we can, while all this Cleverley/Pogba tandem talk is cool in theory, one is just back from injury and the other is totally inexperienced, not the best idea to pair them in my view.

Hopefully Nani and Young will be fit for the flanks and I imagine Chicharito and Berbatov will be up top. Smalling and Jones at CB and Fabio in at LB might be too much all in one go, so maybe just Smalling in alongside Evans to start.

Yep, weekend off, next game is Ajax at home a week later. So...

Code:
                  De Gea

 Rafael Evans Ferdinand Evra

Valencia Carrick Cleverley Park

             Rooney Welbeck

SUBS:
Amos, Fabio, Smalling, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Hernandez

Yep I'd play a strong team and hopefully we can rest players for the second leg with the Norwich game in mind.

I didn't realise there was no weekend game haha I thought we had Norwich, but this could be good news. I still think certain players should be left out of the starting line up and get a good rest, while some others who need fitness should get into the side.

I can still see Ferdinand, Scholes, and Giggs being on the bench or left out entirely, in favour of the likes of Smalling, Cleverley, and Nani/Young if fit. A lot depends on the fitness of players who missed our recent games. Or, perhaps those players are likely to be subbed on and then start the return leg.

Really difficult one to predict, I hope we get some more information on certain players before this game. My thoughts are experience in the away leg and youth in the home leg.

Screw the haters I'm looking forward to this. Regardless of how they're doing now, Ajax have always been a big club and the Amsterdam Arena has always been a great ground.

I hope we take this seriously, even if it is with a weakened time.

Would like to see:

------------DDG---------------

Rafael----Rio---Smalling----Fabio

Val------Carrick---Cleverley--Nani

--------Rooney---Hernandez------

I hope Nani and Smalling will be fit.
Anderson and Pogba to come on when possible.

Amos

Fabs Evans Smalling fryers

Cleverly Jones Pogba

Nani Wellbeck Park

I wanna see this, but don't think we will.

If we're gonna play a strong team than hopefully we'll see the Cleverley-Carrick combination in the middle.

When was the last time we played Ajax? I was trying to think of it the other day.

Still embarrassed we're playing in this. Ugh.

For anyone that's interested here's how they did in the Champions League:

Code:
[CENTER]Ajax 0 - 3 Real Madrid
Lyon 0 - 0 Ajax
Ajax 4 - 0 Dinamo Zagreb
Dinamo Zabreb 0 - 2 Ajax
Real Madrid 3 - 0 Ajax
Ajax 0 - 0 Lyon[/CENTER]

They only went out on GD and only conceeded 6 goals, all against Real Madrid.

This game will be more difficult than a lot on here are expecting.

Given we have no game at the weekend I'd go with our strongest possible side apart from giving Giggs, Scholes and maybe Rio a rest.

Can't see why some people have such a downer on this competition.

We fecked up in the CL, so we're in the competition on merit.

We should take it seriously, set out to win the games we play & try to go as far as we can.

A cup a cup as far as I'm concerned...

---------------De Gea
Fabio---Evans----Smalling----Evra
Nani---Carrick---Cleverley--Park
---------Rooney--Hernandez

Still a strong team but allows us to rest players who have played a lot recently like Ferdinand, Scholes, Giggs and Valencia. I hope Fabio gets a game either at left back or right back as it's been a while since he played.

I think we'll get a 1-0 victory where we just sit back and let them control the pace.

Ajax have a few injuries of their own. I couldn't get the details on how long and for what reason their players are out but in the home game against Utrecht a couple of weeks ago, their team (particularly back four) was unrecognisable. No Vertonghen, No Aldeweireld and they even had Jannsen playing in defence if memory serves.

No need to risk Rio. Carrick could probably do with a rest, so too Valencia.

I'd play:

de Gea

Rafael
Evans
Smalling
Evra

Nani
Scholes
Cleverley
Park

Hernandez
Berbatov
