Ajax vs. Manchester United

Giggs not travelling is good news for the women of Amsterdam :D

Travelling squad:

De Gea, Amos
Evans, Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Ferdinand, Smalling, Fryers
Valencia, Nani, Carrick, Young, Park, Scholes, Cleverley, Pogba
Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck

Rested: Giggs, Evra
Injured: Lindegaard, Vidic, Fletcher, Anderson, Owen and Berbatov

Great to see Nani, Jones and Smalling. Also a well deserved rest for Evra, Fabio to start then.

TRAVELLING SQUAD:

de Gea, Amos
Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling, Fabio, Rafael, Fryers
Park, Carrick, Nani, Young, Scholes, Cleverley, Valencia, Pogba
Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck

No Evra, Berbatov or Giggs.

Evra and Giggs I can understand, they need and deserve some rest; but Berba must have a knock, would have thought he was fairly nailed on to start this game.

Hernandez, Welbeck

Amos, Fabio, Jones, Evans, Young, Park, Scholes, Rooney.

You're only allowed to field 11 players at any given time...

That's the second time I've done that here.

I meant to take Cleverly out again before I posted as I wasn't sure between him and Pogba, but I think I'd rather see Cleverly get 25 minutes off the bench.

Original post now edited.

Kewl the game will be played at 22h00 at my place, for once...

Rafael Smalling Evans Fábio
Carrick Cleverley
Valencia Rooney Young

Tough on Park, he may well get into the squad somewhere, possibly over Pogba. I can see Fryers being promised to start the return leg, maybe Pogba too, so that could be a reasoning by them not taking part tomorrow (if they don't).

Would like to see Nani and Jones on off the bench, probably Pogba too if not Welbeck. I think we'll get a good result here if our players returning from injury aren't too rusty. A good result could mean our second leg team looks something like this:

Amos; Fábio, Smalling, Jones, Fryers; Nani, Pogba, Cleverley, Young; Berbatov, Hernández (as long as Berbs injury isn't too bad, again Park would likely feature too though).

fergie prefers to start with players returning from injury and replace them when they are knackered. its a less of a risk than putting them on as a sub to break down after 5.

therefore i see carrick and cleverley starting in the middle. scholesy replacing celverley after an hour. 15 minutes later.......if its 0-2then pogba will come on for carrick. if its 0-1 then pogba will come on for hernandez/wellbeck

Judging by the travelling squad, looks like Fergie is keeping his word and indeed taking the comp seriously. I suppose having no domestic game helps.

That's true, but it's also true that we have 4-5 players returning from injury (I'd count Young still) as well as Fábio who hasn't played for a bit.

I think Young would probably start as he has a start under his belt already. Smalling at CB wouldn't need subbing since he'll do less running than the other players. Cleverley will probably come off at some point considering he's been out for ages. I think we'll likely start Smalling, Cleverley, and Young. Jones and Nani to come off the bench (although I wouldn't be surprised if Nani starts and is subbed too).

Giggsy, Berba, and Evra didn't make the trip.

Leaving for a European game on a Wed is not something they have done before :(

This always seems to hamper us and produce those infuriating pedestrian performances that we've seen at times this season - I really hope he doesn't do that
