Also him being exposed is news to me, can't remember him every saying that we had reached an agreement with Dortmund. Just personal terms with Sancho which had also been reported by many other outlets, including UK ones, since.

Really hope he works out to be a really good player in a Utd shirt. At this stage I'd even appreciate a Nani level of good on the right wing.

I don't think Nani deserves that 'even'. Better wingers than Nani at Man Utd in PL era: only Giggs, Ronaldo, Beckham, Kanchelskis (?), Rashford. Won 4 PL titles and 1 CL. I'd be very happy indeed with someone who could match that.

I agree that Nani was a cracking player and if this lad ends up that good I would be more than happy. Hopefully even better considering the way people talk about him!

Nani had at least 2 seasons in which he was a top 5, arguably top 3, best winger in the world. The club has not had as good a right winger and dribbler since. Nani was a very very good player that was unappreciated by many simply for not being Ronaldo mk.II

everyone should be ecstatic if this kid turned out to be as good as Nani

He was very good, never really world class, but he was also inconsistent, impetuous, extremely frustrating and at times his play acting was hard to tolerate.

Given the lack of a proper right winger for so long. If Diallo can reach his level, or close to it I'll be happy. Even if he comes with all the crap I disliked about Nani.

He dropped a b@llock on Sancho, he started out with the narrative that his contract was up and in fact there was an extra year to go on it.

They had extended a year if I remember correctly and it showed that he was in fact not in direct contact with people at the club or close to the player.

There was another similar thing as well in the same window, I forget because I can’t stand reading all his tweets that are relentlessly regurgitated here on the caf.

I mean come on how'd you like it if you rocked up to work and someone the same age and experience took a better job ahead of you the first day they walked through the door?

Pellistri hasn't had a single appearance in a European major league nor has he clocked up any minutes in the Champions League. He is of different quality to Diallo and therefore the decision doesn't come just from who came first and did more time in U23.

If you're speaking from Pellistri' position, you'd be vexed. Maybe you wouldn't? But maybe you lack ambition/ drive and are happy for people to get ahead of you so easily?

Nani was mostly inconsistent and frustrating when he was on the left. He was always more consistent on the right, highlighted by the only season he was given a good run there he was the best player in the league, led us to the title and was battling with Di Maria to be the best winger in the world not named Messi or Ronaldo.

Unfortunately he spent the majority of his time with us on the left because Valencia could only play on the right. As much as I like Valencia I've always felt that was one of Fergie's biggest mistakes in his latter years. Sacrificed the better player to try to get them both in the team. In hindsight perhaps the best thing to do would have been to move Valencia back to fullback earlier and let them both play on that side together.

No, it's none of that. Players know that they develop at different times. Diallo will come in with direct European fixture experience and might well be evaluated to be more polished.

That has feck all to do with drive, ambition and the rest.

A lot of our fanbase like to say how Rooney was moved around to accommodate other players but never realize the same held for Nani as well.

The guy was the best attacker in the league in 2010-11 in a title winning campaign

If Diallo is miles better and already at first team level then what difference does it make? Pellestri will still get his chance at some point if he keeps playing well.

What a ridiculous statement. He hasn’t trained with the team because he hasn’t bloody joined the club yet! Nobody is advocating Diallo get a chance while he is still an Atalanta player!

We haven’t yet signed him, so all these talks are premature. OGS is not an enemy to himself and will likely play those players who are ready (in his view, of course). Be it Diallo, Pellistri, Greenwood or anyone else for that matter

Peak Nani on the RW was one of the best players in the league. Someone of that calibre would be the difference between us winning the title. Diallo will be an immense player imo, his talent, low centre of gravity etc. are top class, but he has barely played any first team football. So I either see him getting an opportunity or two and forcing his way into the team ala Marcus/Greenwood or it being clear he needs some time to develop and being a squad player for a little. Either way, I see him being a top player for us at some point. Has the talent, only if he has the mentality, something we are yet to see, I guess.

I’m similarly unsure where anyone suggested Diallo should get a game ‘before he’s even trained with the first team’, to use your words. The point before which he begins training with us is when he is still with Atalanta. Obviously nobody is suggesting that.

But I'd disagree with that, when Nani was on it, he was fantastic, but even former team mates have said what I posted, it was commonly commented on at the time as well. No matter where he played he was the same, right or left. Yes, he provided assists and goals, but aside from all of that he let himself down a lot by being selfish and shooting when he should have passed, trying one trick too many, his diving and play acting. He could be excellent and frustrating in the same passage of play.

I was just using him as a reference point
for Diallo, even with all those flaws I'd be happy if he reached Nani's level, that is all.
