Anderson

Immense, right til the end of the match as well. He was brilliant in the first half as well when the rest of our team were in a deep slumber.

Felt like he dragged us through that game almost single handedly. Amazing considering Gibson next to him did sweet feck all. I always think Anderson plays better without a Carrick/Scholes next to him. With them beside him it's almost as if he is supporting there play and letting them be the creatives. When he is next to a player like Gibson I think he realises that the pressure is on him to be the playmaker and main man.

Hope Fergie plays him against Schalke, with Carrick in our midfield would be awesome...

Not sure I agree with this. Although I will say that in a 442 Fletcher/Anderson would be a good partnership if they were given a few games, there should be enough energy there to make a 442 work against the good teams.

He seems to revel in these games where through opposition sits back.

Needs to work on how he performs when the opposition press us plenty.

Anyway brilliant performance today, fantastic.

Was brilliant today, I've said previously that I prefer it when he plays slightly deeper as gets more room to make those driving runs and his through balls were absolutely great.

Anyone who thinks Gibson should start ahead of him needs their head checked.

He was fantastic. He's had some special performance at home this season and he just offers us something completely different. He and Hernandez could become a good solid partnership.

I think it has more to do with the fact Carrick and Scholes aren't nearly as mobile or defensively capable (at least as far as doing the leg-work in central midfield) so he takes up more responsibility sitting back and closing players down. Paired with a Gibson, Fletcher or Hargreaves (when we saw some of the best of Ando) he has license to get forward with the confidence that he's not left the back door open for the opposition - which seems to be key to his game.

One of his better games. He looked knackered a bit in the first half but found that seconds wind where and when it mattered.

How can people say he's better without Carrick? All his great performances earlier on in the season came with Carrick next to him. Usually when he plays next to Gibson he doesn't really perform (although that tends to be in the Carling Cup).

I think having Rooney and Hernandez upfront suits him a bit more, with Rooney dropping deep he can play it and run on past him and with Hernandez' movement he can use his penetrative passing.

I am yet to see any central midfielder play consistently well in
a 442 with Fletcher.

Fantastic today - incisive and penetrative passing, good movement and adequate defensive work. He genuinely runs forward with purpose today and he added an extra dimension to our attack, I said in the match-day thread we need to see more of this lad now. Get the feeling he realises this is his chance, let's hope he continues taking it.

He has a fantastic range of passing, unfortunately its a bit hit and miss, hes either like today on song for the majority and plays Scholes-esque passes through teams for fun or he over hits them and they look awful when they dont come off.

He also seems a different player at OT, maybe its the bigger pitch that suits his game? away from home his passing style tends to come a cropper, at OT with the wide pitch hes able to spray his passes to better effect.

Class today.

I think its a lack of confidence and composure away from home. Also he panics when there is less space instead of believing in his abilities. And I think apart from his shooting what he most needs to improve is positioning and making himself available for the ball. That is much harder when the game is close and to and fro and easier when its defense v attack likr today.

Yeah he can be devastating when given space. he will carry the ball forward and just run past players.

Excellent performance today. My one gripe (and I'm being immensely harsh here), was that he was a bit slow in coming for the ball on one or two occasions. Oh, and his shot was a bit naff, but I've given up on expecting Ando to score

Overall though, great passing game from him.

Yup. Once he gets better when there isn't that much space he'll be truly amazing. He has the ability as well, his touch was fantastic today. Will come with time.

He's put in 3 or 4 of these performances this season, as he has in every season, but he's so far failed to get any sort of consistency going. Frustrating because the majority of his play today was very good and it shows the potential

I don't like the fact that he's criticised for being hit and miss. Giggs is exactly the same playing more or less the same role. Only difference is Giggs is much more experienced so he'l always have a higher success rate.

You should have seen this forum 8 years ago, Giggs "creative" passing wasn't a favourite on here.

Why is there a dislike for Ando amongst some posters?

When Rooney or Hernandez puts in a terrific performance you don't see people claiming they were average. Seen a lot of negative posts (small proportion of course) regarding Anderson today.

I support Giggs' passing all the way. You gotta take chances, but it's double standards to criticise Anderson for playing similarly.

Another example of why we should (and will) persevere with him.

Some posters just don't like certain players, I will admit Gibson isn't my cup of tea.
