Anderson

Should be starting. I continue to believe Cleverson should be our first choice centre midfield.

In some games it can work, but against the bigger teams I think it's useful to have the more defensive minded Carrick in there. Ando/Cleverley works when we're on top, attacking form, or if we're in search of a goal, but if Wenger had rightly tried to play a counter attacking game today and it had worked, then the holes in midfield could've easily been exposed.

Adds thrust that all of our midfielders simply can't do.

Get him on a running program asap.

Too good with the ball and too fast and strong to not be featured every week.

Looked good when he came on. I do feel both him and Cleverley need to improve at making themselves available for a pass. Cleverley does it better than Anderson but they both tend to wander in forward positions waiting for the move to develop at times rather than wanting the ball.

I noticed this as well. One moment Ando is loitering up top seemingly waiting for a pass that was never going to come to him. After 10 seconds, he finally moved into space. Whenever they're in midfield, their positioning is fine. As you mentioned, when they move forward, they seem to forget to show for the ball.

Came on and did well, felt he was more effect than Cleverley. Looked more creative

In fact, in that move where Van Persie played a reverse pass to him which we got a corner out of, Anderson was actually a bit slow to react because he wasn't really trying to be available for the pass.

thought he was left isolated up front because he was the only one who wanted to try and create something while the rest of the team were dicking around with the ball.

Another good performance from him tonight. Really like how he takes the ball forward whenever possible. It really adds something more to the team and I would like to see him getting a few more starts in the next few weeks.

Did have to laugh when he tried another one of those flicks over his head to escape his marker and it didn't quite come off. Could just hear Peter saying 'see keep it simply'

I think Cleverley should start against Braga, and Anderson should be given a start in the next PL round.

Same here. If starting him against Braga means he's going to miss the league game I'd have him sit out Braga.

I still want to see Anderson, TC and Carrick in a 3 man midfield.

We cover almost every attribute required for an effective midfield with that set up, and further considering our wealth of options up front now, and the extra protection for the defence with 3 central players, i think we will be devastating with that system.

not complaining about how we are currently setting up though, so don't get me wrong. But i do feel 3 in the middle has to be the way forward, and i think it best suits our midfielders, who always seem to be lacking something with whichever pairing we choose. 3 in there alleviates this problem imo.

Anderson has always done this. He runs forward brainlessly taking himself out of the game, and then the United player on the ball, often a fellow midfielder, has nobody to pass to.

His positioning is his biggest weakness, but it has improved this season. Also, as Amol says Cleverley has a similar tendency to fail to make himself available for the simple pass. At the moment I'm struggling to see what Cleverley brings to the team that Anderson doesn't, yet Anderson looks a level above in terms of creativity.

Anderson is the better player in my view. Anderson is a beast in midfield at his best and personally I still feel he and Carrick are our best pairing. I don't really know why he is not playing more often. He looks fit, and whenever i have seen him in his few outings this season he has played very well.

As i have said previously, Tc and ando were fantastic offensively as a pair early last season, and all they lacked was Carrick behind them to give a bit of protection. I still think that those 3 in midfield would give us a very effective midfield set up, and hopefully they will get the chance to prove me right or wrong! :D

I think he is looking great every time he gets on the pitch this season, If he can get his fitness up and avoid another serious injury he could become a vital part of this title push.

They offer different things. Anderson is more likely to ping the perfect cross field pass or open up space for others by attacking the space infront of him, whereas Cleverley is more likely to help the team play short one touch passing moves i.e he thinks quicker.

I think he made an important contribution today and I'm enjoying this week of good form from him. He looks so much more mature than in his first season at the club... Finally.

For want of a better term, I do agree that Cleverley is the better 'continuity player'. The fundamentals of midfield play come easier to Cleverley, but he still has his weaknesses - there's often far too large a gap between him and Carrick.

Sums up my view on things. Anderson has his weaknesses, but those weaknesses are shared to an extent by Cleverley, and he offers things that Cleverley simply doesn't. Ideally I'd like to see the two together, but if not I'd prefer Anderson and Carrick.

Surely going to get the nod midweek when we play in portugal! Seems to have regained his confidence and is playing some great passes and running with the ball through the middle of the pitch.

I don't see why people rating Anderson always seems to lead them to underrate Cleverley. They're both very good, and both in great form at the moment. They both did very well today. To say that Anderson did better is rubbish. Neither really put a foot wrong all day.

Maybe it's because they have different styles in a similar position. People see Anderson driving forward or trying the hollywood ball and they criticise Cleverley for being too safe. But they see Clevs never losing the ball and able to twist his way out of tight spots brilliantly, and they criticise Anderson for being so inconsistent and over-ambitious with his passing. It's crazy. Liking one does not have to mean disliking the other.

He looked good today apart from that decision he made with the shot. He's that kind of player who can transport the ball extremely fast once he makes up his mind.

I just love the sudden burst of pace he brings to our midfield; something the Cleverley or Carrick cannot provide.

He's pretty exciting when he's showing some form, a very entertaining player to watch at such times. I hope he plays against Braga and gets to run riot, his performances deserve some starts.

Yup. I definitely consider Anderson the bigger talent. I've admired his abilities for a long time. But even I have to admit while he is looking very good right now I'm still more confident in Cleverley in a tight game where space is at a premium. Anderson has tended to struggle in those games, specifically. Although it has to be said that he hasn't had a chance to prove himself in them for awhile either.

Was brilliant when he came on and really help us gain control of the midfield.

There was so much space there all game and it was crying out for someone like Anderson to, if you'll excuse the cafe meme, attack the space.

He is just so insanely explosive. When he put the ball past Arteta and flew past him it, Arteta looked in disbelief. I would wager he would give Valencia and Nani a run for their money on a short sprint.

His long range passing is also excellent when his game is on, as is his penetrative passes. No doubt to me that he has a part to play in this team. He offers a physical presence otherwise lacking in our central midfield.

Yep he can be quality but his unwillingness to show when we are on the ball really needs to be improved. If that comes what a player we will have!

Was class again when he came on. Crowd was really getting behind him. We were very lethargic before he came on but we sprung into life again almost immediately.

Definately deserves to be a starter from now on fitness permitting. Did more in half an hr than Carrick and Cleverley between them

Nice of Fergie to acknowledge Ando again.

Asked if he took off Cleverley to save him from getting sent off, Ferguson noted: "Yes I did. I think Jack Wilshere had been warned for his third foul on Robin and then Tom had a foul on Wilshere and I think he got a warning from Mike Dean so I was not prepared to take a chance and Anderson actually changed the game a bit for us."

In regards to not showing, I don't get what people are saying. For instance there was a time today he showed for the ball and Carrick moved in between but, whoever it was played the ball to Ando who instantly took the ball up field.

Most games I watch I keep looking for this he doesn't show enough, it seems like he is always on the move to me.

Anyway, hope he starts on Tuesday. As Fergie has said, he needs games.

I am convinced he is the reason why Fergie is reluctant to buy a new CM. When he is on fire he is sensational. The major thing is to get the injury problems behind so he can play consistently.

It's nonsense Shimo, trust me, a stigma that seems to have stuck with him since his early days.

Every time he's played for the past 2 years he always wants the ball.

I really don't get it either. He always looks hungry for the ball.

Edit: Apologies for the pun.

Yep, it's what's so good about having him and Cleverley on the pitch at the same time. They're both constantly moving, hard to mark and always either available or getting available.

I have always believed Anderson has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

And I guess he might prove me wrong.Hopefully Fergie trusts him more than he does.
