He really is disappointing especially when he's got a lot of attributes which we don't have in central midfield like strength, pace and the ability to run with the ball but he very often is unable just to get his foot on the ball and play it simple. He's always looking to pass forward but he's got to start attacks and keep it moving when in 2 man midfield in particular. And he was lacking energy. It can be excused coming back from injury but this is a perenial problem that needs to be addressed. He could do with dropping weight I think.

The only Brazilian I have seen who cannot shoot. Or run.

He can definitely run, so that's a bit bizarre.

I'm usually the one defending him but he was bobbins tonight, he looked slow to react to almost everything and he wasn't at it at all, should have been hooked off far earlier than he was.

For an incredibly inconsistent player he's very conistent in being absolute dog-shit away from home. Would rather see Gibson get the nod when we're next on the road

That said, I'd start Anderson against Everton. He's generally been decent at OT.

He's actually made no progress at all since he came here in 07/08 - 4 bloody seasons ago. I don't understand how you can show such awesome potential in a few games and then play like he did tonight in the majority. There's something not right there and I wouldn't lose any sleep if we replaced him in the summer. He's gone past the point of frustrating and he's now just annoying.

I thought our lineup looked good today again. It was a midfield where he could have thrived yet failed to deliver once more.

Call me crazy but I trust Gibson more than him.

I think he's made progress. I don't think he played as well as he did in the run of games around Christmas in any previous season. The partnership with Carrick was great. No doubt Fergie hoped for more of the same tonight.

It's crushingly disappointing he hasn't kicked on from there but that was hopefully a glimpse of the future.

Agreed he should have gone off earlier, I meant his pace when it comes to running. He looked fecked at the end.

This season has been make or break for him, I really don't think he will cut it.

Ah, fair enough, sorry I thought you meant generally. Although even tonight he put in one or two probing runs from midfield. If he can sort himself out and find some consistency I think that will be something of a trademark for him, he bursts forwards with the ball fantastically at times.

I still don't think he's fat but he does need to sort his stamina out, hopefully something which will be resolved over the summer.

Our central midfield is shocking for a top european team, the only reason we are where we are is because of the quality of our defense and attack.

Spot on. We are lacking two world class midfielders. The fact that Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs at 37/38 are our best central midfielders is shocking.

Yes, Carrick and Giggs were so poor against Chelsea's imperious midfield. We are so lucky to have beaten them.

We need creativity and muscle, one of those players needs to be world class. Tiote and Sniejder please Fergie

Why on earth is he getting criticised after tonight? It was his second start since returning from injury against a team that decided to do something we hate, press, press, press. I don't even think he was THAT bad tonight, he was decent and made some good interceptions and broke up some promising attacks for them.

Fergie really needs to give him his wings and push him further forward where his power and ability to beat a man is more likely to bear fruit.

As for the people who said he can't cut it and hasn't progressed...What bollocks. Anyone wo saw the form he was showing from November-January knows what he's capable of and that the potential was verging on being realised fully prior to injury.

One world class midfielder then. Every other team in the top 5 has one.

Arsenal have Fabregas, yes, and Wilshere is an incredible young player, but whenever we play Arsenal, we come out on top.

Our 4 meetings with Chelsea this season have shown that our midfield is very underrated. We have won the battle in each of these games.

City's central midfield is not special. Silva is a brilliant player, but he plays out wide or in the hole.

Modric of Spurs is a great player, and I have admired him for quite some time, but I would not say he is world class yet.

How many of our central midfield would walk into any of the top six or so European teams?

It matters.

Are United not one of the top six European teams? Please do not underrate our squad, it is not fair.

He's been here for 4 seasons and we paid 20 million for him. We have a right to be critical.

A case could be made for getting rid of every one of our central midfielders other than Fletcher, and that's worrying. We don't need world class we just need new blood becuase it's increadibly stale. I look at some of these kids in the reserves and I think they'd bring something we lack. Even if it's just a spark, or a bit of unpredictability. Someone with a bit of adventure.

Even though his performance wasn't bad by any means and he's only just returned from a decent spell out with injury? He's young and IMO not being utilised in the role that suits him best, the role that convinced us to spend that amount you are referring to. He's done superbly to adapt to what SAF has asked of him and he's moulded himself into an adaptable midfielder with a well-rounded game. Despite him making the best of that though, I really feel it's time to play him in his favoured role, adavanced where his qualities are more likely to hurt teams. He does fine playing as a typical CM but further forward he's got the potential to add some of the dynamism and ability to beat a man that we severely lack from central areas.

He was super frustrating to watch, for a central midfielder he hates holding onto the ball, always trying a long ball & giving away possession. Wouldn't be surprised if he's sold in the summer.

Anderson can offer us all those things if for once SAF gives him a long, uninterupted run in the side and allows him the freedom to play more advanced and express himself.

Even though he signed a new contract not 6 months ago and Fergie declared his belief that he'll go on to emulate Keane, Robson, and Scholes in terms of influence on a United side? Yeah your right, let's disregard all that and sell him because he didn't play 10 out of 10 in his second appearance since a lengthy injury

Jesus Christ, some people have a short memory and an even shorter amount of patience. He's young and has shown signs of maturing into a fine player in the past. It's not the boy's fault that injuries keep cropping up and halting the pace of his development.

Fergie also said Dong was like Gabriel Batistuta. Don't believe everything he says.

There's no way we'll sell him. He's still only young. Hopefully he can stay away from injuries.

Did Fergie spend substancial money on Dong or give him a renewal after a number of years at the club during which he must have seen enough talent and potential to give him the new deal? I think it's quite pathetic to use such a player in comparison to an established international player like Anderson, who regardless of what he goes on to achieve, has provided excellent service to MUFC during his time at the club.
