According to Delaney we want Belotti and Griezmann to replace Ibra and Rooney

Manchester United want to bring in both Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Andrea Belotti of Torino this summer, and have made progress with both mega deals, as they continue to consider their attacking options in the wake of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury.

The club comfortably have the resources for such deals, but the financial outlay will be eased by the fact Zlatan Ibramovic and Wayne Rooney are both almost certain to leave, freeing over £500,000 a week from the wage bill. Rooney will go to one of Everton, a Chinese Super League club or Major League Soccer - although a return to Goodison Park is understood to be his preference, with wages already having been discussed - while Ibrahimovic’s United career now looks over after his cruciate ligament injury in the 2-1 defeat of Anderlecht on Thursday.

The club hierarchy have pressed on with their attacking plans, and it is understood the wage deal offered to Griezmann’s camp is “extremely persuasive”. While the feeling at Old Trafford is more progress has been made, the 26-year-old still has reservations about living in England and leaving Atletico this year, but is now said to have also stressed that he wants to keep playing in the Champions League next season.

United have meanwhile been looking to negotiate with Torino for Belotti rather than pay the buy-out clause, and among the possibilities broached have been the idea of full-back Matteo Darmian going the other way as part of a plus-cash deal and/or a structured deal based on performance similar to that the club struck with Monaco when signing Anthony Martial.

How many Italian strikers have fared well in the PL?

Wouldn't mind Belotti at all as long as we got him for a decent fee. I know it's not my money but for the money thats been touted I'd rather Kane or Icardi.

Also Miguel talks a lot of bollocks. He's only after reporting that we cooled our interest in Griezmann and we were looking at Lewandowski. Which is it then Miguel?

I'm glad Jose has been reading my posts.

I'll just wait till he says we've found Belotti unattainable and are now targeting Messi as a result.

Ravanelli, Pellé, Di Canio and Zola(although not and out and out striker) to name a few?

and none of them were WC. To be fair Bellotti isn't WC either. Not just yet.

Miguel Delaney knows as much as me and you, only journalist who has any clue about our transfer activity this summer is Di Marzio and he hasn't posted anything about our targets so far. If we are ever thinking about signing anyone from Serie A, Di Marzio and his crew will be first to let us know.

I'd tend to believe people on here ahead of Miguel Delaney. He's shite.

He didn't ask about "WC" striker. He asked who had fared well? And IMO all of those strikers have fared well given their potential and age at the time they signed. Thing is, players like Baggio, Vieri, Del Piero, Inzaghi etc. have never played in the Premier League. So it's not as if Italian strikers have some sort of bad precedent in the Premier League.

It's the same as asking "how many Swedish strikers have fared well in the MLS" when rumours about Zlatan going to the US begin.

On topic: I think Belotti would be a brilliant signing.

TBH Italy haven't had a quality striker for years. When they're playing Balotelli and Immobile etc you know there's a lack of depth. Fantastic defenders, not so good up top usually.

Saying that I really like the look of Belotti.

Delaney is a hack. Belotti's style of play is extremely interesting though. Not many with his power and aggression. I think he has the most headed goals in all leagues too, so physically he is well-made for the PL.

I can definitely see this happening.

He's got a bit of Drogba about him i.e. A strong target man with good techical ability.

Typically Jose Mourinho striker. Surprised he is not after Lukaku instead. Nevertheless, it seems Rashford would have to do more to convince Jose that he is first team striker ready.

The signing makes sense with Zlatan injury. Prior to his injury, I believe Mourinho might have stuck with Zlatan or Rashford next season with Griezman as the second striker behind them.

According to Wiki he's not even 6 ft though. Clearly not big enough to be a real target man in the PL or a main target in a Mourinho team? :nervous:
Lukaku is probably a better option.

Just kidding

Icardi is good but he's an Inzaghi type of striker. He just stays in the box waiting for the ball or a chance, do not expect anything more than that.
Very cynical though, I'll give him that.

Belotti on the other hand is the real thing: all pitch pressing, fast, very good in and outside the box, great at headers too and with that body he's just unstoppable.
I think he'd be perfect for the PL, he can really become one of the best strikers.
However, considering that he has a 100 million euro release clause I don't see him going for anything less than 70/80 million.

5'11 is fine. He's extremely broad-chested too, he looks quite the unit for his height.

Feels like one of those articles that are written just because "it would make sense if it were true, so why not?".

I never worry about height. It's all about your leap, the timing of it and your core body strength. He can shield the ball no problem.

Diego Milito was around 5ft 11" too.

We're going to be super underwhelming on the striker front for a while after being spoilt with Rooney, van Persie and Ibrahimovic.

I think Belotti will be world class soon and his likely high transfer fee can be neutralized by 'low' wages (for a striker playing for one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world) but I'd rather trust caf posters than Delaney.

Castles as well this season. Seems like he got Mourinhos personal hotline

Said it when Spurs signed Lamela a few years back and when Chelsea got Cuadrado - I'd be extremely reluctant to spend big money on anyone who has only played in Seria A in their careers (with Dybala being the exception) - it's a totally different league from the Prem.

Same. We will end up being Darmien'd with this one too!

I'll start getting excited by transfer news once Di Marzio has something to report.

Lamela has done well, though. Apart from a difficult debut season, he has transitioned just fine. Spurs could do with him now.

Cuadrado was never given a fair crack at The PL.

I am usually against signing Italians. They are brought up with a different footballing education and approach the game in a different manner. I always rated Darmian, and still do. But you can see how he benefits from a more tactical system over a free flowing gameplan.

You forget the journo who will be faster than Di marzio because we have Jose is Duncan castles.

You purposely left out the white text? Really, height isn't that important. Belotti's 6 ft should be more than enough. In fact, I'm sure he'd fit in just perfectly.

what kind of striker is he (Belotti) Pacey? target man? My Chelsea friend has been banging on about him for a month or 2 now
