I was ready to argue with @Wednesday at Stoke but I'm not sure what you mean as most of the qoutes he posted do point to them believing he has a mentality problem. Obviously they can't come out and say it directly but they are about as scathing as a coach will typically be in public apart from very rare occasions.

I choose not to hate Martial as I have a feeling (not an expert just reading between the lines) that he might suffer with mental health issues or anxiety. I feel like a lot of his injuries recently may be things he could have played through but he has hit his limit with the limelight of being at such a high profile club going through such a criticism worthy period.

Shame because as far as technique and physicality I would struggle to name more than a few players who are more talented than him.

You’re definitely not one for giving up on a player, give you credit for that.

managers aren’t going to come out and slate a player in public, but surely you can see for yourself his attitude and effort on the pitch is frustrating, putting aside he pulls a hamstring trying to do his laces up.

He was given a good change to step away from the OT pressure cooker and failed there too.

Whatever his issues are, we just need to free up his space and wish him all the best for the future
 
Also worth bearing in mind that he's our 5th highest paid player, even ahead of our new constantly available captain Bruno.

Its time for him to go but there's no need to be telling lies about him, he should be going for completely valid but separate reasons.
 
One of the most disappointing players ever. When he came and scored against Liverpool and then his first season, he looked like he was going to be an exceptional player. Fast forward to now and hes one of the most disappointing. Injury prone and always seems miserable 90% of the time. Thank god this is his last season.
 
He's lucky we don't have any depth in the striker position or he wouldn't have gotten many minutes of play-time. I honestly think Hojlund is an automatic first choice atm. I have completely given up on Martial and would have liked him gone.

Considering he likely doesn't reach most of the bonuses in his contract, I highly doubt that.

Genuinely, why does this even matter to some? I don’t even think it’s true, I’m photos he’s usually laughing with his team mates and he seems pretty popular around the club, but it’s a weird stick to beat some one with, just because they’re introverted.

Tbf, I don't think any of our players have been consistent since Fergie. The players have been affected by constant manager changes especially the young players. Martial and Rashford (until Ten Hag arrives) have not developed as expected and I think their progress has been hindered by the fact we have had so many managers with different styles of play. When you look at city and Liverpool young players you can see the difference. As much as Martial has played a part in his decline, I think the manager changes haven't helped his case... Unfortunately, this is his final season in a united shirt.
 
Looking forward to losing him on a free next season.

Yeah I think all reports are that he's on a basic wage of 250K.

I could understand giving him an extension but why did it have to be FIVE years at such high costs - rivals weren't exactly queuing up for him.

Glazer/Woodwardnomics. Agent goes in we want £200k a week for 4 years. Woodward I'll give you £250k a week for 5 years. They were looking as they were an asset on a spreadsheet, regardless whether they were suitable or not. I think Arnold/Murtough and crew are finally getting their act together this summer. Antony on £200k a week a rise of £180k a week from Ajax was ridiculous last season. He would easily have signed for half that I reckon.

Nope, those sites are never fully accurate and don't report base wages anyways. Do people really believe he was given 100k more than Pogba whose base wage was 144k? Oh, and Rashford had no problem accepting 500k less 6 months later according to reports. 3 years later, our top performer Bruno was also ok with getting less than him.
 
So this guy became injury prone by running through walls and playing while injured for a low quality team and manager that was out of his depth, and previously had won back his spot multiple times with a manager that unfairly treated him, and yet the majority opinion of him is that he's mentally weak and uninterested.

Make it make sense
 
I was hoping Saudis would come to take him, but they mostly want Chelsea and Liverpool players, for some reason.

I doubt we'd sell anyway given it would likely be a low fee, and we have no depth at striker. Might as well see out his year and move on next summer
 
I think it is us who holds the option of a further year, so we won't exactly he losing him on a free unless we want to.

Have zero hope from him. I think I've got more expectations from MG even if he plays today but not martial.

He's playing for himself and his future now and if that benefits us in any way, then great. Else it is bye bye Tony

I wouldn't take any reports on wages at face value. The club wouldn't brief journalists on their details. The only way we know is if the contract itself is leaked like in the case of Pogba.

I got tired of arguing against it, it's just an idiotic point especially given I've seen him smile plenty of times. Even when he was playing well people used to not like him because they thought he "sulked"

Those are some horrible examples. Personally i think you just dont like Martial and see some confirmation bias in those comments. Like @Raven also says, there are enough reason to want Martial gone but there is no need to make up reasons to want him gone. I think he should go too but i dont feel te need to come up with made up stuff like ''he doesnt run'', ''he doesnt smile'' or ''he has no desire'' as reasons for wanting him gone. He is a broken footballer, just like Phil Jones was and broken players shouldnt be at Manchester United.

Only Raneiri and Mourinho made comments that could be describe as negative to Martial. One is Mourinho... what young player hasnt been on the receiving end of Mourinho critisim?

Ole literally gives him a compliment that he is running more and wants to see more of that. I guess you read that as ''Martial didnt run enough before''? The Lopetegui quotes are the standard new player has to adapt to new team quotes.

The Ragnick quotes are not great but that was in anticipation of his loan to Sevilla and dont have to do anything with questioning work ethic, desire and ability to channel his immense talent. Looks like Martial didnt want to mess up his loan period and from his point of view i can understand not wanting to take the risk of playing a game and picking up an injury. Players are often kept out of the squad when they are anticipating a transfer. Martial, as a fragile and broken footballer, likely wanted to ensure his loan move to somehow get his career back on track.

Im going to assume that the Deschamp quotes are about Martial getting into the French squad? First he gives Martial praise and than is on about being consistent to get into the most stacked international squad. I dont see that as questioning Martial his character, desire or anything. National team coaches do say that players need to be more consistent as a go to answer when asked why a certain player isnt part of the squad.

Again, you just see read what you want to read. Like i said, I do agree that he should be let go after this season because he is a broken player. Even ETH, who is a bit notorious for his high demand in work ethic and professionalism, has been talking about Martial his desire to return.
ETH : “Anthony Martial I think is the player who spends the most hours at Carrington this season, to return, to recover, to get back. It is really such a pity for him and us. He is disappointed and he is not always available like we want him to be. ”

I dont see that as a manager questioning Martial his desire or work rate. Just his fitness is the issue.
 
We won't get a worthwhile fee for him so it's best we keep him till next summer and then replace him then. Forget the wages, just accept it is what it is and hope he can contribute by giving us rotation for 10 games or so.

I am actually hoping for quite a bit more. It is amazing the revitalizing effect that playing in a contract year can have on a player, especially one that has seen his stock plummet in recent times. Could be the difference between Paris or Preston next summer.

That's a good point, I'd say we shouldn't change our minds about a renewal based on whatever he produces this year, but it won't be the first time we've had a player magically come to form in a contract year.
