Not good. He got fired from the Fulham job in my last FM game. I, on the other hand, managed to send South Korea to the World Cup with an 90+% win rate and only four goals conceded.

On the plus side, if he does get it then we can start calling Chelsea a bunch of contes.

Hope he plays the 3-5-2. Maybe we'll see some success with it after Vangles and Bob Mancs tarnishing of its reputation.

Good appointment and I expected him to be their next manager. Simeone and Allegri never looked likely and I am glad it's not Simeone.

Forgot Conte existed since he became Italy coach. Would be a good signing for Chelsea.

Heh..even if he does return, 3-5-2 has been proven to be useless in the premier league.

Yeah very true. Mancini tried it in the 12/13 season and Rodgers tried it at Liverpool for a while to get Suarez and Sturridge playing together up front. We all know about Van Gaal's attempts to play 3-5-2 as well. It never ended well and usually leads to a lot of square pegs in round holes.

Am I the only one who thinks he's got a lot to prove? Did well at Juve but very little competition when he was there due. Or was he so good and that's why there wasn't any competition?

This is why I'm not so high on this appointment. I would much rather have Simeone.

At a time when Guardiola, Klopp, Wenger and possible Mourinho are managing in the Premiership, Simeone just has that 'it' factor to compete. But maybe Conte will be a sensible appointment. Who knows.

They never muck about do they? Just get their new manager sorted without the newspaper circus.

No, you're definitely not the only one. I'm pretty subdued regarding his potential hiring. The odds are not in favour for any future Chelsea manager though.

If we're ambitious in the transfer market and hold on to Hazard (if not, at least sign a replacement near his level) then I think he'll succeed. If we go the cheap route and buy a few average joes and we'll be nowhere near the title again.

Juve finished 7th twice before he took over. Allegri is doing a great job too, but Conte was the one who took them out of the mess. He is a good manager, probably the best available which they can get. But with Pep, Jose, Klopp, Wenger he will have a lot of competition.

Seems he never had much luck with trying to get Juve to play different setups than his 3-5-2, which is odd(Allegri has them playing a few different systems well). How do his Italy side play?

I might be prejudiced here but him being out of club football for some time now is not a positive sign. The requirements and level of engagement are much higher at the club level. I bloody hope that he speaks English, couldn't do with another Scolari.

It's only been 2 years since he was at Juventus

Saw a short clip yesterday on YouTube of him speaking decent enough English.

I am happy with this. He is authoritarian and meticulous in his approach to things. We need this now to whip these shithouse players into shape.

3-5-2 isn't his preferred formation though. 4-2-4 is from what I have read and he has played with a 4-3-3 before.

He is also the best guy available (Other then Simeone) and went unbeaten in his first season at Juve. Won 3 titles in a row and took them from 7th to 1st. Too many Chelsea fans are disappointed because they wanted Simeone but he was never going to join us. We need to be realistic about where we are right now and Conte is a steal all things considered.

Yeah, saw that too, probably. But I had the impression his vocabulary was very, very limited. Mind, it wouldn't matter anyway in the end, since how many english starters do we have next season? (RLC and Cahill will be probably in and out of the team.)

Best hair transplant around. Will put Rooney to shame.

He started with a 4-2-4 at Juve before switching to 4-3-3 and then eventually sticking with 3-5-2. His Italy team have mainly used either 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 and haven't lost a competitive game since he took charge, finishing top of their Euro qualification group (which included Croatia).

He's brilliant tactically and amazingly adaptable during games. Pirlo and Buffon also love him:

Pirlo

"I am extremely lucky I met Antonio Conte, I had so many coaches to compare him too, and he is the one who surprised me the most. I was expecting a good coach, but not that good.

I thought he was a coach with a lot of grit and charisma; instead, I discovered that tactically and technically he has a lot to teach many of his colleagues … he makes us play matches with 11 against zero, urging us to repeat the same moves for 45 minutes until we get it right. That's why we win 11 against 11."

Buffon

"The secret of our success is the ambition our coach has. Conte has brought a new mentality to the club. He has pushed us to sweat, to find strength and to undergo hard work in order to cancel out the last two disappointing campaigns."

Despite all the Buffon love, Conte doesn't take any nonsense from his players:

Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato, who co-wrote Andrea Pirlo's autobiography, recalls a story around the time Conte was pushing his side to break the league record for points in a season.

When Juventus goalkeeper and club legend Gianluigi Buffon interupted the team meeting to discuss player bonuses, Conte "lost his rag."

"Shut the f*** up Gigi, What the f*** are you saying? Don’t say a word. I don’t want to see you anymore, get out of here! I would never have expected it from you, you don’t know s*** Gigi, you are the captain, you are a disappointment to me as well as all these idiots."

Cheers.

What odds on him seeing out that 3 year contract?

Good appointment though, just about as good as they could get in the current market.
